The new normal
Completely fictional
~~
The Indian Cricket Team was in England for an ODI and then a test series against them after a break.
Virat Kohli was surrounded by all the juniors as they were meeting after a long time, "Bhai why didn't you call any of us?" Shubhman whined.
"I was busy with Akaay na, baccha I am sorry." Virat said apologetically. He hated lying to them, and to be honest it really is not of any use because they'll get to know about it soon enough.
"It's ok Virat we understand." Rahul said trying not to cling to Virat, trying to maintain his image.
"You can cling to me Rahuliya, after all you are my first kiddo." Virat said ruffling his hair making Rahul huff.
They were talking amongst themselves when Jassi noticed Rohit entering the hotel lobby. He silently backed away, trying his best that no one notices Rohit and he could get a little bit of time with him.
"Bhaiya I missed you." Jassi said hugging Rohit immediately. Rohit chuckled and hugged him back. Everyone turned to look, Jassi hugging Rohit, being all smiles.
Everyone went towards Rohit, assuming Virat will also follow suit, but he actually took out his phone and sat on the couch scrolling through the internet.
"I missed you too Jassi." They heard Rohit saying. All of them waited, because fighting with Jassi for Rohit's time never really ended well.
Jassi pulled back and then Rohit was attacked by the kidults of the Indian Cricket Team. He laughed good heartedly and hugged all of them with equal warmth.
Rohit's eyes searched for that one person, and he found the one sitting on the couch absolutely unbothered.
Rohit so wanted to shake and tell him that they were supposed to be best friends forever, they were supposed to be family. Not what they are right now, he suddenly felt like he wanted to cry.
He was brought out of his thoughts by Hardik telling him about how he and Agastya had pranked Natasa.
"She was so furious you know, we even have photos." Hardik said and took out his phone. He opened the gallery and the first picture there was of Rohit hoisting Virat on his shoulders and Hardik looking at them with a broad smile.
Rohit felt suffocated with emotions, "Harry I am sorry but please excuse me." He said and hurriedly went towards the washeroom.
Virat saw Rohit looking tensed and rushing towards the restroom. He wanted to follow him and ask him what happened and why he was so distressed.
But he reminded himself that they were not like how they were before. Things have changed and this was their New Normal.

"One room?" Rohit and Virat exclaimed at the same time. All other players had gone to their respective rooms, with their room mates.
Rohit and Virat were the only ones ye to receive the key card for their rooms. And here they were, shocked, on getting only one key which meant they had to share a room.
"Can we please get a seperate room?" Rohit asked, and Virat nodded, "Yes please look into it if you could."
"I am really sorry Mr. Sharma and Mr. Kohli, but we don't have any more vacant rooms. We were told to give you both a single room by your coach." The receptionist said.
" Of course he did, he didn't know things were different now." Rohit mumbled and Virat couldn't decipher what was said so he uttered a "Huh?"
Rohit shook his head and Virat rolled his eyes, "Don't you have any other option?" Virat asked again and the receptionist grimaced.
"I am afraid not, but let me check once." He said. Rohit and Virat looked at each other for a moment. They looked at each other and could see the eye bags, the tiredness but didn't dare ask.
Their attention was brought back by someone calling Rohit by his name, they turned around to see Jos coming towards them with a bright smile, mostly aimed towards Rohit.
Rohit smiled back and Virat frowned. Jos came and shook hands with him, Virat plastered a forced smile, "Good to see you." He said.
Rohit extended his hand for a hand shake too, but Jos pulled him in a hug, drawing a startled laugh from Rohit and a glare from Virat.
"What's with tbe formality mate?" Jos said as he pulled back from the hug and Rohit just shrugged.
"How have you been? And did you get the wine I sent you?" Jos asked and Virat frowned, "They have been so close that they are exchanging wines now?" Virat mumbled angrily.
"Yeah I did, it was perfect. Thanks for that." Rohit said, Jos looked at Virat and their luggage.
"Why are you guys out here with all the luggage? Didn't you settle yet?" Jos asked, confused. Rohit's smile dimmed down a bit as he looked at Virat.
"He's showing his full set of teeth to that gora and his smile dims the second he sees me!" Virat mumbled yet again.
He moved forward to stand besides Rohit, "Nothing to worry about mate, we are just waiting for our room keys. They had assigned us the same room and we want different ones." Virat said extra sweetly.
Jos looked at both of them confusingly, like they had grown two heads, "But like don't you... guys always share rooms?" He asked and all pretense of the smiles fell away.
Virat and Rohit looked at each other, their eyes conveying all the clogged emotions. But they dared not to interpret them.
Jos asked again, now concerned and confused, "What happened?"
Rohit and Virat looked at him, "Uh things change?" Virat said, unshre what to say. An awkward silence descended and Jos cursed himself for bringing this topic up.
"Uh.... How about you share the room with me Ro? I am as it not sharing it with anyone." Jos said suddenly, desperate to break that awkward silence.
Virat gasped dramatically (drama queen it is) and Rohit looked at him unsure. "Didn't think of asking me, but couldn't wait to ask Ro." Virat mumbled for the umpteenth time.
"You wouldn't mind?" He asked Jos and Virat didn't know whether to cry or revolt. "Obviously not, why would I? You are a great company and an even better friend." Jos said.
The receptionist went towards them, "I am really sorry sir, but we really couldn't arrange another room." He said again, apologetically.
"It's ok Ro, I don't mind sharing room with you." Jos said smiling warmly. Virat took the key from the reception.
And before Rohit could say anything, Virat said, "How kind of you Jos but I think me and my best friend can manage. Thanks again for the sweet offer." Jos looked slightly alaramed at that extra sweet tone and sickeningly sweet smile.
Before Rohit could even react, Virat was dragging him and their bags towards the room, leaving a bewildered and confused Jos behind.
A/N: Hey guys this is my attempt at writing something different. Please vote and comment down your views. Expecting at least 45 comments, no new update before that :)))
PS: I know this is supposed to be an emotional book, but I can't help but add humor because I can't see my Rohirat sad even in fiction :)
