Chapter 8
Aniyah didn't feel scared like she used to before she went on missions. She waited for the fear to set in but this time around, it was actually like feeling nothing.
She guessed it was only a quick recon mission, the other two boys didn't really need to come along but then again, always at least 3 on a mission, never less. That was a recipe for disaster.
Flynn was the right decision, keeping him around looked like a positive point. She noticed how when he had went to the 'toilet', by the time he came back, there was a slight bulge in the side of his coat, where he had probably kept a gun or two for him and Damon.
Impressed that Ismail hadn't noticed it sooner, she decided that keeping the boys around might have not actually been such a bad idea. They didn't mean any harm anyways, their curiosity got the stronger hold over them.
An hour drive had passed and now they were standing next to what seemed like a run down shop but with Ismail's extensive missions from before lead to him finding out La Morte's hideout.
The boys were quiet in the back, not sure what to do in this situation; Aniyah could feel their awkwardness from a mile off. That was one thing that had changed about Rider, he wasn't as charismatic as he used to be. Aniyah planned to change that.
They all got out. During the car journey up, Flynn must have managed to give Damon a gun and a clip, the bulge in his coat considerably less.
Ismail bought a finger to his lips as he ditched the coat in the car. They boys and Aniyah followed him road to the side of the building.
Ismail pointed upwards, leading everyone's visions to the one security camera that was pointed directly at the door to the place. Instead of trying to disable it or go around it like Aniyah thought he would, he walked in the opposite direction, going around to the back if the run down shop.
He then pointed to the garage round the back which also had a camera pointing right at it.
Just like before, he walked around the garage. From the corner of her eye, she saw Flynn eyeing the slight ledge that seemed to come out from the side of the building. He nudged her, bringing her full attention to it as well.
A ledge like that wasn't usually there when it came to old stores like this. That was one of their first clues, showing that this building wasn't exactly what it seemed.
Flynn's skinny fingers held onto the ledge as he pulled himself up, his careful balance key to whether or not he'd come crashing down and blow our cover.
Ismail followed him up to but before the other two could climb up as well, voices came around the side of the building.
"Shit they aren't going to make it up." Ismail said, trying to keep it to himself but Aniyah heard it loud and clear.
For the first time on this mission, Aniyah felt something stir in her chest. She and Rider were going to be taken by these men again, the men that truly changed her life for good.
She looked pleadingly up at Ismail, begging him through her eyes to get her out of this situation. She couldn't go through with it again. If they were willing to do something that bad to a group which had two 14 year olds, she knew that now they were 17, they weren't going to get away with it like they did last time.
She recalled the guns trained on Rider and herself, the deal being that the Captain had to surrender himself or it was a bullet to both of their brains. It was him or us. That was the point where her respect for her Captain had truly hardened, when he decided that he would give himself up to make sure that nothing happened to the two 14 year olds that were being held at gunpoint.
The man that had been holding younger Aniyah and Rider pushed them forwards, giving them back to the group but they seized the captain instead.
There was a second between them being released and the Captain being captured that Aniyah felt completely useless. She couldn't have tried saving the Captain even if he tried.
One of the men had held a gun to the Captain's temple, an evil glint shining in his eyes as he nearly pulled the trigger.
That's when the third casualty had happened. One of the men that had come on the mission with us decided he had had enough so with one quick movement, he shot the Captains holder, forcing the Captain to run with Rider and Aniyah. The look in the Captain's eyes could only have been described as complete pain as he realised that La Morte had shot his releaser. One way or another, someone was going to die and it wasn't going to be from the opposition.
The voices were now coming closer and closer while Aniyah took deep breaths. She could either jump onto the ledge but that could mean the men could see the other two up there as well or she could stay on the floor here and risk getting taken. Ismail and Flynn would come and save them if need be.
Flynn quietly took out his gun.
"Where the hell did you get that from, schoolboy?" Ismail asked with his eyebrow raised as he took in the fact that the boy that had followed them into this mess was now holding a handgun which Ismail definitely hadn't given him.
"Armory." is the only thing Flynn replied with as he kept his eyes trained on the men that had came around the corner and were pointing their guns straight at Aniyah and Damon.
"You two better come with us." one of the two men from La Morte said, grabbing Aniyah's arm with a predatory grin.
"Oh no you didn't." she said before flooring the first man. He wasn't too big but the second man that came around the corner was not the same story.
"Flynn, this is our chance. They clearly came out through the garage so we need to get in. They're going to take Aniyah and Rider regardless."
"His name's Damon." Flynn replied, looking at Ismail with a confused look.
"Right. I trust Aniyah and she has capabilities not every 17 year old can boast. We'll help her get out but to do that, first we need to get in."
Ismail didn't look scared and Flynn truly believed that Ismail must trust her a lot. This whole mission now rode on the fact that Aniyah had to be able to stand her ground for both her and Damon.
He spared one more glance down and saw Aniyah and Damon fighting off the men as they came, now three laying unconscious on the floor.
"They're going to send out two more men, more burly than the ones so far. Those two aren't going to be able to fight them so we need to get in so we can help them escape. It'll help us with our recon aswell."
Flynn watched Ismail's face, a hurt seeming to come off of him as he understood that Aniyah might get hurt in all this.
"We don't have a choice." he said quietly before jumping in front of Flynn and jumping down into the garage, narrowly missing the camera. Flynn did the same, jumping down from the far side of the garage. "Look, if I get caught, I need you to get me and the other two out of here. At any point do we get separated, you need to find the other two and get out of here, regardless of whether or not I'm there with them. I'll be able to get out on my own."
Flynn didn't trust a word he was saying, knowing that if Damon and Aniyah couldn't fight off seven men together, Ismail didn't really stand a chance on his own. Yet still, he must have had a plan.
Flynn didn't plan on leaving unless it was all four of them leaving together. They hadn't hurt him yet so they didn't deserve to rot at the hands of these lot.
He just nodded though, following Ismail deeper and deeper into the hideout.
For a run down building on the outside, the inside was anything but run down. The wallpaper seemed new and crisp, the smell of freshly painted room still lingering in the air. Beautiful paintings were dotted all around the room and plush sofas sat in an organised fashion in the middle of the room around a fire-pit.
Flynn was impressed but the two could then hear voices, cutting their interior design appreciation short.
"The girl and the boy are back again for whatever reason I can't even fathom. Was last time really not enough for them?" a tall, lean man in a suit said. His hair was a dark brown, rare strands of silver dotted around.
"Rayan Guerriero." Ismail whispered as quiet as possible.
But Flynn still couldn't get over the fact that Aniyah and Damon had apparently come across these men before. Damon wouldn't have even remembered it if it was before his accident.
Why would Ismail bring these two back here, knowing that they had already escaped here once before?
"Look, I'm going to stay here and listen in to as much as I can. I'll try and meet you outside with the others, ok?"
Flynn nodded again, not really wanting to hear more from the conversation. He was already confused and didn't need more piling on.
Turning around the corner, he created another mental blueprint of the building he'd seen so far. He placed the garage and the room as well as the hallway he was walking through right now. The front door on the opposite side of the building also had it's place but the empty space inbetween still needed filling.
It seemed nowhere near as big as their hideout, only a few rooms being dotted here and there. Every room he saw, he placed it in his blueprint yet still on his search for Damon and Aniyah, he'd found nothing.
He walked around like this, checking each room cautiously and adding that room to his mind with a new name for every room for around half an hour. Impatience was starting to settle into him as he realised he actually couldn't find any of the others, whether it be Aniyah, Damon or Ismail.
"Fucks sake." he cursed under his breath as he came to the final room, one which he hadn't seen in his initial sweep. If he'd looked more carefully, he could have found the others ages ago, maybe saving 20 minutes or so.
He placed his ear next to the door, trying to listen for any sound.
"Touch me again and I'll break your fingers." a familiar voice said, one he could recognise even if there was a door in the way.
Shrieks could be heard from inside till her shouting was all muffles. She'd been gagged.
If Damon was in there, he wasn't making a noise. Ismail had probably found him and got him out, the conversation between Rayan Guerriero and the other man probably over ten minutes ago or so.
Pulling the gun to his side, he carefully opened the door, knowing that the others and the men must have been in that room.
Aniyah's shrieks, even when gagged, were loud enough to keep the men occupied. Flynn should have finished looking around the building by now, she hoped, wanting to get out of here as quick as she could.
The door started opening and by how slowly it seemed to be opening, it wasn't any of La Morte's men, it was Flynn. She looked over at Damon and Ismail who were also tied up to their own pillars.
She tried shouting even louder, trying to keep all attention away from the slowly moving door and onto herself.
Flynn jumped out from behind the door, his gun raised, then jumped behind one of the pillars, his skinny body being hidden perfectly from sight.
As long as he stays there, he won't be seen. Aniyah thought as she carried on making as much noise as she could.
The door shut just as Aniyah let out her last shriek, finally calming herself and her sore throat down. She could really have done with a glass of water after than but knowing her tiny bladder, that probably wasn't the best at this exact moment.
Not even a minute had passed though after Flynn had jumped in before the door opened again, this time with a power behind its opening.
A man in a crisp, checked suit walked out, lean muscle covering his every limb. His head was full of dark brown hair with a few strands of gray inbetween, his face owning only a few smile lines and small wrinkles.
She was face to face once more with Rayan Guerriero, the man who had changed her life.
