Chapter 14
Shaking the boy slightly to get him awake, she positioned herself so that she was kneeling against the bed next to Damon.
"Hey, wake up."
Groaning, he tried to turn onto his side before hisses, failing to remember that was the side he'd gotten shot at.
"No chance you could get Dawn and give me some paracetamol or something?"
"I'm not sure how much help a paracetamol is going to be for that one, Damon." she chuckled, helping him roll back onto his right side so he was facing her. "Made you your favourite. Might not be as good as you like them though."
Damon looked amused, not really sure how Aniyah would know that his favourite breakfast was scrambled eggs.
"I'm not going to ask you how you know that; I already know how you're going to answer but now that I think about it, it is a bit of a basic breakfast isn't it?"
"You're not wrong. Now I'm sure you can feed yourself because I'm not playing mommy."
"I'd never dream of it." Damon had a bright smile on his face as he said all of this, happy that after more than two years of knowing this girl, she was starting to be true to who she actually was and he preferred this Aniyah over the quiet fake one any day.
He sat upright, taking to food into his mouth with the fork that Aniyah had thought of bringing up.
"This might not be as good as my mums but it sure is not bad. Maybe I could help you on your presentation next time, alright?"
"Shut up and just say thanks, Day."
"Ooo nickname already? Does that mean I can call you Ni?"
"Do whatever you want, stupid head."
"I heard you call me that while I was basically dying in the back of that car. Did you really think that would be what would keep me awake? You calling me a stupid head?"
"I could have called you much, much worse really. Do you wanna try me?" she said with a laugh escaping her lips.
Damon raised a hand over where his heart would be. "No no, please, my poor heart couldn't take it."
A few minutes of quiet laughing and eating passed before Damon handed the finished plate back to her.
"This is the part where I'd say we should go and do something together but," he then pointed to his left shoulder "oh well, maybe in a weeks time."
"I knew it'd be about your shoulder, you didn't need to show me. But I'll be holding you to it. Next time, food's on you."
"Deal."

A few hours had passed and Flynn was still lying in his bed, not really sure what to make of what he found on the computer.
The pictures he saw on the computer kept swirling around in his head and he couldn't get them out. He had to find out what they were about but still, he couldn't find the heart to go onto his phone's camera roll and look at all the pictures he'd taken of that whole document.
"Arghh." he screamed into a pillow before punching it and getting up. Not much was going to happen if he didn't get up and try to find out more.
Medical files, that's what he was going to need. He needed more proof than just some pictures if he wanted to get to the bottom of this. Plus, pictures weren't solid proof or he could just have put his own face next to a caption 'Batman' and viola, he would have the role.
That table that Damon had been stitched up on was on the floor above along one of the 3 hallways. He got up and locked his room behind him, knowing that leaving it open might leave him exposed and he didn't need anyone finding out about his little side mission of his own.
It'd been a few days since he'd been down here now but at no point, other than when he was first taken, did he feel threatened by anything or anyone. No one here was holding him against his will anymore and if he really wanted to, he could have just gotten up and left but the truth of it was that he actually wanted to know what was happening here now. Now that he had a taste of it, he wanted it all.
He was upstairs now and was on the Medic Hallway as he'd called it, the third one that wasn't the Armory Hallway or the Stairs Hallway. The room was pretty easy to find anyway.
He looked into the little window that was on the door but found himself ducking away just as quickly when he saw Dawn standing in the room rifling around in some files with her back turned to him. He looked into the window again but just enough that only his eyes were in view of the window.
She was wearing a pair of leggings and a pain dark blue tee which looked way to oversized to not be deliberate. He'll be honest, it wasn't a look he hated.
Shake yourself out of it Flynn, you're here for a reason.
She finished looking at the files and was heading towards the door but not before locking the cabinet and slipping the key into her pocket.
"Good thing I still got the paperclip and the hair pin from yesterday." he whispered to himself while sticking his hand down his pocket to grab said lock picking 'tools'.
Flynn got up and walked back before walking in front of the room just as Dawn was leaving.
"Flynn." she acknowledged with a nod before going down the hallway.
Just before the door could close, he grabbed it and opened it, heading straight for the cabinet at the back. He wondered why all the records were still in paper and not in a computer. Maybe it was on a computer but Dawn preferred having paper copies.
Either way, it didn't matter because in this instant, it did Flynn more good than harm. This was starting to feel way to easy, like people were begging for him to go looking.
The cabinet was quite easy to pick and once he was in, he realised that he didn't know 'Rider's' last name. That may have been one of many reasons there were paper copies.
He had searched on and on for at least five minutes, the multitude of thick files just going right over his head. Of course when he first checked, the only file under Damon Harwood was those about a car accident and his bullet wound.
"For god's sake." he shouted, slamming the cabinet shut.
"I've been watching you fruitlessly looking through those files for a good while now. You could have just asked if you were looking for something. Knew it was a bit suspicious how you were walking around this hallway when all there was was this room and a few other identical ones." Dawn said with a smirk, leaning against the door frame.
"I, erm yeah I was trying to find my own." he replied, rubbing the back of his neck with a small smile, one that screamed 'guilty' to Dawn.
"So I'm guessing then that you've never heard of an alphabetised system." she said with her brows raised, catching Flynn in his lie quicker than he would have liked. "What were you really looking for, then?"
"I-- It doesn't matter. I'll see you at dinner yeah?" he said, trying to get past her to get out the door and make a run for it but she just extended her arm, stopping him from passing.
She tilted her head down, giving him a 'really?' look before backing him into the file cabinet he'd slammed shut. "That was cabinet one of five, one that you didn't even get halfway through so please, I can leave you here for the next few weeks while you look through them or I can save you a few weeks of your life and help you out."
"Why would you help me?"
"Well given what happened at La Morte, I doubt you'd back down anytime soon so I might as well just speed up the inevitable."
"Ahh, alright then but I need you to promise me that this won't get out from between us."
"I won't tell anyone."
"Promise me."
Exasperation covered her face but as quick as it came, she mockingly reached out her extended pinky.
"Pinky promise I won't tell anyone."
Flynn did the same, linking their pinkies and then letting out a small chuckle.
"I'm looking for Riders information." he said and as he did, he watched the colour drain from Dawn's face.
