once upon a pun
"Knock knock." A faint voice was heard from the other side of the door.
"M...mom..."
The voice cried, and the short skeleton from the outside was sure that it was not the old lady. It was a child's voice- it was a child crying.
How come there is a child in there...? Oh no, this must be that human child. The human child that he have promised to protect.
Teleporting to a nearby tree as the door slowly creaked open wasn't really easy. The moment he reached the tree, his skeletal foot stepped in the wrong branch, almost making him fall.
A small human stepped outside the ruins. They seem to be crying, while mumbling the same words again and again; mom. He soon shook the thought away and observed their features instead.
Short locks of brown adorned their little head, as a seemingly too large sweater, having the color of the ocean with two stripes of purple, covered their petite body from the cold weather of snowdin.
One thing seemed odd about them; they are barefooted, and spots of red and purple can be found from their thighs to legs, near their feet. Is that a common thing for humans to have?
He once again ignored that as he noticed where they are heading to. The 'barricade' that his amazing brother had made. That was when it hit him like a solid brick. A human had been detected, slowly making their way to snowdin forest.
Summoning his blasters and skewering them with bones seemed like the thing he will be doing. If only that promise was never made.
Their expression would always change with every step. From the sad truth that they can never go back to the warmth of the Ruins, to the scared and horrid expression with great fear that someone, or something can instantly kill them.
No way Sans can kill a child like this.
Specially when their appearance, as well as this scenery reminds this certain monster a lot of memories. The memories about 'her.'

It was roughly around the year 195x, as from what he can remember, it was months after a misunderstanding in the United Counsil, the government of Humans and Monsters.
Most humans became disgusted with monsters and slowly rejected the said race. Monsters are taking this issue quite lightly, as if it was just a small arguement, and that they will make up again soon.
Days and weeks have passed, and yet nothing changed. It only gets worse and worse as monsters lose hope one by one. If this continues, everyone is positive that bad things may happen. Real bad things.
The fact that each race is avoiding one another, seeing a human teen walking towards the gates, that had been closed for weeks now, is utterly shoking.
Is this kid looking for a real war?!
She takes light steps as their bare feet touched the ground with each step making a soft sound. Each time she moves forward makes the short skeleton guarding the entrance, extremely nervous. His mind was telling him that he have to do something, and so he did.
The girl took a step back as she heard unfamillar noises coming from her above, which was a young Sans, who just jumped off a tree, as tall as a house. She got startled when he landed near her, causing her to fall.
A grin spread wide across his skull for he got a real great landing. Meanwhile, this human is just at the ground, staring at him with eyes full of fear...and innocence. This human is not here for war...
If so, then what is she doing here?
"Heya." He cheerfully greeted, extending a hand, offering help, for he is such a great gentleman. "Need a hand?"
The tensed atmosphere seemed to banish as the human girl started to laugh, "Man, that was a bad joke, why are you even laughing?" He asked in confusion but she just simply grabbed his boney hand for support on standing up.
'Wow her hands are warm--wait no this isn't the time for that.' He thought in his mind, but hurriedly ignored it, "So, uhh, what's your name?" He asked, trying to spark up a conversation.
They mumbled something, but it's inaudible; "Can you please repeat that?" Not trying to sound rude, one must always add that one magic word.
After another whisper, "Frisk." was the only word he could understand, but what does that mean? "Frisk, huh. Is that your name?" Earning a small nod, he mentally did a happy dance.
"Well then, hello Frisk, I'm Sans. Sans the skeleton." The skeleton introduced as the small brunette giggled. He felt something unexplainable. Perhaps, it was his nervousness again.
"Hey are you laughing at my name?" She quickly shook her head as a response, as each strand of hair swiftly followed her movements.
"Don't sweat it. I know my name is comical." and yet again, the comical Sans had earned a laugh from her. This girl is so close to being his only crowd, if only she would talk.
Since in his mind, he thinks they're getting along now, he might as well ask her about the real thing; "What..." Feeling a bit nervous, he stopped before asking. "What are you doing in here, anyways?"
There was a long silence that made both of them anxious. Maybe it was personal."You aren't gonna answer? Wow, thats...COLD,"
"Actually..." She began to spoke. In his non-existant ears, her voice was the softest and most melodical thing he had ever heard. "I was sent here." Now I got intrigued. I mean, who would ever do that?
"I was sent here by the counsil." The counsil, sent a human in here? But why would they?
"What?" He asked and she took a step backward, with a sorrowful look in her face. "They said it will be an experiment...an observation."
Experiment? An observation? What kind of bullcrap is that? They really need to have careful observation to know if its safe to interact with monsters? People in the counsil are insane!
"They...don't trust us, huh?" She slowly walked towards him and touched his cold cheek bones with her warm hands.
"I was afraid, to be honest." It was still like a whisper, but he heard it loud and clear, enjoying every sound of it, "But you made me feel at ease." She smiled.
Sans smiled back at her, but looked away immediately, "Thanks," she removed her hands from his skull, but that sweet smile remained in her small face.
"Am I allowed?" She asked, trying to make her voice louder, "to come inside, I mean."
"Oh, well yeah, but don't expect everyone to welcome you. They are still adjusting to this issue..." He gave her a reasurring smile. Her response was just a small nod.
"Don't worry, monsters don't bite," He reassured her once more, and she replied with an eager nod, "but some may. I don't know for sure."
He laughed at his own joke as Frisk looked slightly frightened. "Alright, alright. I'll guide you." She giggled as they both made their way into the town.
While walking, he was interviewing her. Asking about her life, some random facts, and also sharing mine, to be fair. Of course, it wont be complete without him, throwing puns occasionally in the conversation, making her laugh and forget about their topic.
Overall, this human is actually pretty nice but one thing seemed odd. She told him that she is the daughter of the president of the counsil, which weirded him out the most, because she was sent here for an observation.
Of course, he didn't ask anymore after hearing that because everyone have their rights to keep information hidden, specially private and sensitive ones,.and he respects her decision on keeping it private.
As expected, some monsters looking at the two, who looked like a young couple exploring the town, with some small gossiping, because that can never be avoided.
Frisk herself wasnt even shocked or showing signs of feeling any sort nervousness about monsters gossiping about us. She looked like she knew this will happen. Perhaps, they...uhh...trained her or something like that?
When they reached a certain part of the town, he stopped walking as the girl beside her became confused. 'Where are we going?' she asked herself, not bothering to say it out loud.
"Frisk." He called her name, snapping the human girl out if her daze. "Yeah?" She asked, tilting her head to the side as her chocolate brown hair swayed with the motion swiftly.
He grinned as he pointed to a house infront of them, "Welcome to my home." The human girl felt sweat beads forming in every pore she have. Well isnt this too much for pressure.
"You're inviting me to your house?" She asked, pointing to herself, tilting her head once more. "What else does it look like to you? Come on!" The skeleton boy said, excited to show her all the stuff inside his cozy home.
Her eyes widened, making him catch a glimpse at her mesmerizing purple eyes. It was the most beautiful thing he saw, even if it was just a split second. "I can't enter your house!" She said, a bit louder this time. Perhaps, it was an attempted shout.
"Why not? My family ain't racist." He chuckled lightly. Her response however, is just shaking her head, signaling a 'no', as each strand of her hair gracefully swayed, following each motion she makes.
A grin was spread wide in the face of his skull as he dragged the human girl inside his humble little house. "Bro, I'm home!" The skeleton happily chimed, calling for his brother. "Bro?" He called out once more.
But nobody ca--
"Oh, welcome back Sans!" A slight deep voice from a strange room, which seemed like the kitchen, greeted Sans. "I'm a bit busy here, mind giving me a hand?"
The short skeleton laughed. "Sure." and he detached his hand, throwing it to the door. A 'clank' sound was heard, as the two giggled.
A head popped from the door with an annoyed face. "Sans, you already did that joke." He said, clearly not enjoying what just happened. "Here's your hand." A small skeletal hand was above the guy's bigger ones.
Sans smirked at him and he looked unsaristfied. "Sans, NO." He warned but the small skeleton just giggled as the human just stared at the brothers, completely entertained, "Sans, YES." The older skeleton groaned.
"Sorry G, ya know ya can keep it." Sans said, with a smug look. "It may come in handy." and with that, Gaster threw the hand at his brother's face and walked back to the kitchen.
Giggling, Sans turned to face Frisk and gave the hand to her, "I will be handing this to you." The human laughed.
"Rejected, eh? I'll just put it back then." He struggled to put the hand back. "Need a hand?" Frisk asked, accidentally making a pun.
The short skeleton laughed, "I never knew you also make jokes." the human girl helped him put his hand back. After several attempts, the two finally managed to attach his hand.
Sans grabbed the human by her wrist as he ran somewhere, dragging her along. The girl was confused on where he is taking her, but of course, she doesnt have a choice.
"Hey, Sans, where are your parents?" She asked out of curiousity. The skeleton stopped after that question. He pointed towards the fireplace near them.
Frisk gave him a confused look but soon understood what he meant, after noticing several picture frames, sitting neatly, just above the fireplace. She slowly walked near it, as he simply followed.
There were so many pictures that she found interesting, and cute to look at, the one where a very young Sans have a nice cream above his head while grinning, or the one where a baby Sans was sleeping soundly, in the arms of a skeleton lady, but there was this one photo that captivated her interest.
In the photo, there were a couple of newly-wed skeletons, probably Sans' parents, and they were standing aside a couple of...goats?
"Hey, Sans, who are those?" They asked, pointing at that certain photo. The small skeleton leaned forward, and examined the it.
He looked back at her with a smile, "These two are my parents." he said, pointing at the skeleton couple at the center. His finger, then moved to the location of the goat couple, "and these two are the King and Queen of monsters."
"My parents work for the King." He explained, his expression turning to serious. "They both work at the counsil, actually."
"I see." The human nodded, "Are you the youngest sibling?" She asked, feeling curious about his family.
He gave her a nod, "Yeah, but G said that mom's been pregnant lately." He smiled, looking at the fire.
"You're gonna be a big brother, then!" She smiled, clapping her hands together. "It's a nice feeling, isn't it? Having someone call you 'brother'"
Her smile caused a burning sensation in his soul, giving a feeling of warmth. It had only been a few hours upon meeting this girl, he already felt attached.
"Yeah, it sounds nice." He smiled back, and the girl sat down in a big comfy chair near the fireplace, her small legs dangling.
Sans walked over to her. "They're all harsh, aren't they?" She said, startling him, "the humans."
"Well, yeah, but you're human yourself." He said, nodding, "So I can't say that all of them are."
She looked down, with a troubled smile, "Frisk, are you..." He tried to touch her, but backed away, "nevermind"
"Its alright, ask away." She said, not looking at him. It was as if, she realized something, but can't say it.
"Hey, uhh, say..." he stopped, not wanting to get across the point directly, "Say, what is the real reason you're here?"
Her eyes widened, eventually opening, showing a pair of captivating purple eyes, but waa hurriedly shut, hiding it. "What do you mean?" She asked, as if she doesnt know a thing.
"Are you really here for just observation and interaction?" His pupils seemed to be lost as only darkness was replaced in the eyesockets, like an endless void.
She avoided looking straight into those eyes (sockets) as her gaze was fixated to the snowy ground. "I was actually here, because I ran away from my father."
"You what?" From the left pair of his eye seemed to replace the once white pupil, with a rather larger, neon blue tinted one. It was glowing, as if symbolizing a fire of pure rage.
The girl shivered as she backed away once more, cowering in fear. "You know what may happen if they were to know that you're here, right?" He asked, gripping her right wrist with his left hand, as he used the other to position her head, holding it from the chin, making her look directly into him.
"Are you aware that a war may really happen?!" She flinched as the skeleton shouted at her. Hugging herself, while holding back the tears, was all that they can do.
They started to mumble, "I have no choice," Eventually, emotions controlled her, as the voice became loud, "I have no choice, okay?! This is the safest place I can go to!"
She lifted her head, facing him with teary eyes in her now open ones. "So please, let me stay here even just for a while. I won't be staying for long, I swear."
A sigh escaped his teeth, eyes regaining its normal color, "Fine, but I'll have to take you to the King."
Oh boi this was long as shit
2 thousand + words lmao
