Ch1 of Between the Crystals by CrystalScherer

STOP If You Want To Read This Book. Spoilers Ahead.

For those new here, I strongly recommend reading About Frankly Speakin' before diving into my thoughts.

Great! Let's get started :)

First, the huge promotional banner/poster on my homepage.

Then, this line: "When Natalie is trapped in an alien ambush, she is unexpectedly released. The first human to ever be let go."

And this: "...one of the few humans with the rare ability to teleport" [super cool]

Okay, this too: "...one thing is certain: the Saursunes aren't done with her yet." [eek]

And lastly, it has 78 chapters and counting, which makes me really curious as to what is going to happen in all those chapters. My prediction powers seem to be weakening here.

Plus, aliens, superhumans and dystopia...bring it on!

Interesting.

Even though there is a hook right in the beginning (the unexpected encounter), this chapter was more of the MC's introduction. I don't know her fully, but I know how her powers work and a glimpse into the world she's been brought up in. There was no cliffhanger, but I strangely felt like staying...I was calmer after I finished with this chapter.

Usually. I'd be bummed out whenever the first chapter doesn't deliver what the blurb has promised... but this story got me to react otherwise. It calmed me down, saying Wait, and you'll receive more than you'll imagine.

It was the author's voice that I think contributed to this feeling. It gave me more time to relish in the small treats laid out in the chapter; and not wait for the big bang. Like how cool is it to teleport using crystals? I'm still dumbfounded by this.

I'm like a moth drawn to this eccentric flame, folks.

Some aspects of this story are totally against my checkboxes (immediate! hooks! clash! bang!), but hey, rules have to be bent at times, right?

This calming effect is what I'm truly grateful for, since my life is pretty hectic right now.
