The title.

For a person with miniscule knowledge about aircraft of any kind, I'm really intrigued by the term "Whistling Death". I want to jump straight into the story just to know the title's meaning.

Also, the blurb gave "Top Gun: Maverick" vibes. Top Gun: Maverick (2022) is a movie that I genuinely enjoyed without any knowledge about its predecessor. So, I hope this story balances the present, the past and the jargon with ease.

OMG. The Whistling Death is the Corsair, lol.

Now that was fun to discover while reading. I didn't have to "learn" about this term from Google or any other resource for me to understand what was going on.

There is a hook right in the beginning, but as it was stated in the blurb, it didn't have THE impact that I should've felt. Although on second thoughts, it's a good way to begin this story.

The rest of the chapter was a setup, plus how the "incident" still haunted the protagonist, William Beckington. If it wasn't for the line "Don't show emotion, Bill", I wouldn't have stayed for the rest of the chapter. That line evoked a sense of rage in me, and that made me realize that I was already on Bill's side, rooting for him like how a reader should for a protagonist.

I'm glad I stuck by, because the unexpected encounter with the Corsair was both hilarious and daunting at the same time. I'm nowhere near the protagonist's age, so it freaks me out when I think about the effects of harboring a bitter experience for more than half a century.

Of course, I will.

Now I want to know how Bill gets over this nasty trauma. As beautifully shown in Chapter 1, he can't overcome it without a miracle or two, so the supporting characters better be good.
