FRANKENSTEIN
47 | The Chain.

"AND if you don't love me now, you will never love me again. I can still hear you saying, you would never break the chain." Hadlee's voice gently flowed in my ear.

I groaned being awoken, but couldn't stop the small smile from spreading across my lips. This was what I missed most about Hadlee, her love for music. I wasn't going to lie, my own love for music originated from Hadlee.

Groggily, I peeked one eye open only to see Hadlee sitting on the edge on my bed, her tongue poking from her red painted lips. Next to her was a small radio playing 'The Chain'. Carefully, she painted her big toe nail the color of the ocean. Hadlee was by far the most 'dressy' of all of us. She preferred wearing clothes that were 'in style', and making herself look only the best.

It worked as everywhere she went, she constantly had guys swooning over her. Not the she ever paid any mind to them, she had her life devoted to finding 'the one'. I applauded her for that, as many girls would love to be in her place with guys always swooning.

When I was younger I would try to be like her. I would play dress up, and allow her to make me into her own personal 'Barbie doll'. As soon as I hit age ten, this all stopped. I realized that I was more like Donica in that aspect - with my preference of converse and flannels over heels and handbags. Hadlee was not happy about that, but she got over it soon.

My attention was then diverted to where Donica sat in the corner lightly humming along to the familiar tune, as she drew in her sketchbook. Donica was the best older sister anyone could ask for. No matter what the issue was, she always seemed to have an answer. She was also really overprotective of us all, not that I minded. In her mind, family came before all else. Donica was a true-born leader at heart, always stepping up to the plate.

Maverick was sitting on his bed, looking wide awake. I noticed that he had changed into clothes alike to mine. He wore the pristine white shirt, and pants - his shoes sitting on the floor by the bed. He alike to Hadlee was softly singing the lyrics to one of our families 'classic' songs.

The Chain, by Fleetwood Mac was considered a legend in the Carson family. Every single person, including my uncle knew the lyrics by heart. It was just a song, that you could listen to a thousand time over again and never get tired of.

My personal 'archive of music' was generally based on songs, from the past generations. The reason I had been in love with Proud Mary, was because that was actually one of my favorite songs as well. It wasn't only me who enjoyed music from the past, it was all of us. The six members of my family agreed that most music now days is trash.

I suppose our love for old music came from our dad though. It was only fact that his favorite band was AC/DC, and that he refused the listen to anything from 2005 and above.

"Break the silence, damn the dark, damn the light." I belted out the lyrics, in melody.

My siblings looked to me with a grin, all singing along.

"And if you don't love me now, you will never love me again. I can still hear you saying, you would never break the chain." We all sang along to the chorus, quite loudly.

As the instrumental part began playing, Maverick started beating on the air - as if drums were in front of him. I along with my two sister's laughed loudly at Maverick. Maverick was a sight for sore eyes, to say the least. His sandy blonde hair, and tall muscular stature drove girls insane. However, alike to Hadlee he was also awaiting for 'the one'. Donica used to be the same way, but it appears she had already found her true love.

"Chain keep us together!" Donica, Hadlee, and Maverick chorused, looking to me with expectant gazes.

I flashed them all a bright smile, the lyrics coming before I could control myself. "Run into the shadows!" I sang loudly, by myself.

"Chain keep us together!" My siblings sang.

"Run into the shadows!" I sang back.

"Chain keep us together!"

"Run in the shadows!"

"Chain keep us together!"

"Run in the shadows!"

After the final lyric was sang, a comforting silence overtook us. My thoughts went back to the Volturi who were coming, what time was it?

"What time is it?" I questioned.

"It's already two! You've been asleep for like fifteen hours, Jolene." Donica said, looking to me as if I was crazy.

"Well, I already told you the average I sleep now is like fifteen hours." I yawned, curling back up into my bed.

My went wide when I fully took in what she said. If my calculations are right, then Aro should already be here. As if reading my thoughts, Maverick flashed me a coy smirk.

"Yep, your new lover got here like twenty minutes ago. Dad, mom, Patrick, Dr. Cullen, and them are all in the Bio lab talking." Maverick smirked.

"What!" I shrieked, sitting up.

"Yeah, I really want to meet them, but we were told we had to stay in here with you two. Maverick decided to bring up the whole beating Aro up again, and that made mom force him to stay in here. Donica and I are only here, because we need to make sure he doesn't leave." Hadlee scowled at Maverick. "I really wanted to meet Aro too, thanks for screwing it up."

Maverick held his arms up. "I was only kidding, I don't know why mom had to be so serious about it." Maverick made a surrendering look.

"Oh, hush up the two of you." Donica shook her head at their bickering. "We only need to stay in here so that they can explain the situation to them calmly, and so mom and dad can introduce themselves properly." Donica closed the sketchbook.

My nerves were now at an all time high. In that moment I prayed that my dad liked Aro.

"It's a shame, really. I mean all mom and dad are really doing is denying Aro and his people all this." He suggestively motioned to his body.

We all looked at him, before Hadlee began laughing obnoxiously on purpose. "AHAHAHA! All of what?" She pretended to wipe a tear from her face.

Maverick looked at her, holding a scowl.

"Jesus!" Donica sighed, hitting her head with the sketchpad.

"Nope, just me." Maverick cockily stated, earning a 'really' look from us all. "What it was funny!" He tried to defend himself.

Just as Hadlee was about to retort the door swung open. Laura walked in with a raised brow, scanning all of us over. "I could hear you all from down the hall." She shook her head. "Anyway, most of it's been explained to all of them, so it's good for you guys to come now." Laura stated, Hadlee quickly discarded her nail polish and was standing.

Maverick stood as well, with a mischievous look in his eye. "Let's meet your suitor, shall we?" He mocked a British accent strolling to the door.

I leaped out the bed, and slipped my feet into the white shoes. In a matter of seconds the five of us were walking down the hall, ready to face everyone.

"You know at first I didn't notice it, but they're all really hot." Laura commented.

"Really?" Hadlee questioned, an eager gleam in her eye.

"Yep, there's about five of them in total. Sorry Maverick, there's only one girl with them."

"Is she good-looking?"

"Yeah, she literally looks like an angel, but I'm pretty sure she's with Aro's brother, so.... yeah." Laura trailed off.

I immediately knew she was talking about Dora. That surprised me, Dora was here? Caius rarely ever traveled anywhere with Dora, as he was scared of her getting hurt.

"That's Athenodora you're talking about and yeah she's with Caius." I told them.

"I knew it." Laura patted herself on the back. "Who's the really tall guy?"

"That would be Felix." I knew it was Felix she talking about.

"The younger guy, fifteen or so?"

"Alec." I dismissively told her. "Is that it?"

"Yeah, other than Aro." Laura shrugged pressing the button to open the elevator door.

As soon as the door's opened we all walked in. When the elevator began descending, Donica asked Laura a question. "Do they know the full story? What Patrick did?"

Anger erupted inside my chest at the thought of Patrick ripping me away from Heaven once more.

"Yeah, Aro remained calm, but it was obvious he was angry. Caius didn't even try to hold back his anger he was sneering at Patrick the whole time. The rest of them just glared, not gonna lie I'm pretty sure that gained your dad's respect. He actually shook Aro's hand, and smiled at him. Your mom is completely won over, and your dad is getting there - I mean he already likes him better than Logan." Laura rambled referring to Donica's fiance.

Donica scowled shaking her head. "Dad is ridiculous sometimes."

"He's better than Patrick." I growled, my chest still burning with anger.

Since my chip was taken out, my emotions began changing so fast it was giving me whiplash. Maverick placed a calming hand on my shoulder, while everyone looked at me worriedly.

"Calm down." He whispered in my ear, soothingly.

I took a deep breath attempting to make my anger diminish only it wouldn't. No matter what I did it only seemed to rise, along with my anger toward Patrick. I could literally feel my eyes changing to black, as my body shook with uncontrollable fiery anger. All thoughts of my parents, siblings, Aro were pushed to the back of my head. All I was able to focus on was the image of my hands wrapped around Patrick's neck making him suffer.

This wasn't natural, I shouldn't be so obsessed with killing my own uncle. Then again, nothing about this situation was natural. I remembered the sheering pain I felt when I was ripped from Heaven, when he took me out of peace.

"You need to calm down, Jolene." Laura told me sternly.

"I. can't." I managed to force the words out.

As soon as the elevator doors opened, Laura walked out and quickly the four of us followed.

"We need to get you to the doctors, now." Laura told me looking into my black eyes, worriedly.

"I thought when you said her eyes turn black, it was just the iris. Not the entire eye, it's completely black!" Hadlee rushed out.

I couldn't stop myself. This was Patrick's fault. He should have come when I called for help, and we wouldn't be in this situation! He shouldn't have ripped me from eternal tranquility because of his own guilt. Even the spirits sensed my distress, as more started appearing looking to me confused.

"I am going to kill him." I darkly, declared - earning looks of shock from all around.

In a matter of seconds I jerked away from them and ran into the opposite direction.

"Jolene! Stop!" I could hear them calling, but I simply pushed myself forward propelling backwards to the elevator.

I was inside pressing the button to a different floor as fast as possible. Maverick's body came barreling around as he darted to me trying to get to me before the doors closed. The other three followed, desperation to get to me before it was too late apparent in their gazes. However, luck was on my side as the doors closed just as Maverick was about to get to me. Quickly, the elevator went up a floor - my anger still pulsing through me at rapid rates and I swear it was growing stronger by the second.

As soon as the elevator opened I walked out, thinking of what to do. I just couldn't let myself see Patrick, right? No, not right. A second after the elevator doors closed behind me, alarms began blaring. This was similar to when Maverick had tried to escape.

Crap!

Now, what was I going to do? You know what, screw you Patrick, screw you. At this point I don't care, I'm going to kill you. Great way of thinking, Jolene. Because killing someone always solves the issue.

As I walked through the long blank hallways of the building, I looked around for any door that would lead me to Patrick, or a way out. Whichever came first. Unfortunately, a small group of agents found me and began coming at me. Unfortunately - for them at least, I knocked them all out.

I noticed they didn't fire guns at all, so I took it as they were simply suppose to bring me back. They still had guns on them though, which was a plus for me. Crouching by a random agent, I looted him for his gun.

"Thank you..." I trailed off, looking to the agent's identification card. "Mich." I smiled.

Quickly, I made my way down the rest of the corridor coming to a stop at a platform. This platform was a bridge that overlooked a part of the lower floor. I watched as multiple groups of agents scrambled about, trying to find me. It was entertaining considering I was straight in view of them all.

Lightly, I leaned against the railing taking a breath.

"What do you mean, she's gone!" Patrick's frantic voice sounded.

My anger rose, as my eyes narrowed into slits. I saw him along with my family and Laura walking straight into view so I could see him.

"She got really angry, Patrick we need to be careful." Laura said, "She threatened to kill you, you need to stay out of sight from her until she's calm."

"Her eyes were pitch black, Patrick. She's not messing around." Donica warned looking to Patrick.

Much to my shock a second later, Carlisle walked in the Volturi following. My eyes immediately landed on Aro, and for just a second I could feel myself go calm. I had missed Aro more than I care to admit, I wanted to to jump into his arms and shower him with kisses. I wanted to tell him how sorry I was, and how much I love and adored him. I wanted to allow him access into the depths of my mind, so he could see the real me.

Aro looked as handsome as ever, but a tad bit of anger radiated off him in waves. I don't believe it was aimed for me though, I think it was aimed for Patrick. Behind him stood Caius holding Dora's hand. Caius didn't even bother hiding his disdain for Patrick, neither did Dora really. Alec and Felix stood by both their sides, looking like bodyguards ready for anything.

Hadlee noticed them as well and her eyes lit up. "Holy shit, my sister didn't tell she reeled in a looker." She said, astonished.

"Get your head out of your tits." Maverick lightly hit her in the back of the head.

Hadlee delivered a fierce glare to him. I watched as ice crawled up his boots, he noticed as well and let out a small yelp shaking the ice off. He glared back at Hadlee, who only gave him a smug look in return.

Aro's eyes locked onto my sister's form, not in an attracted way - but in amazement. He was entranced that a human could have such a power.

My eyes reluctantly left my mate's form, and went back to Patrick's. I was surprised no one noticed me up here just casually watching them. I was ripped out of peace because of his own guilt. He broke Death's most important rule. What is dead, stay's dead.

With that thought, my anger spiked. Slowly, but surely I raised the gun and aimed it for Patrick's head. In a rein of misfortune, Maverick happened to look my way in that second. Once he saw what I was doing he froze.

"You are not a murderer, you are a protector." He said, calmly.

The conversation around him paused as everyone turned to him with furrowed brows. Donica followed his gaze, her eyes landing on me. Her brown orbs widened and she quickly turned to Patrick.

"Get down!"

Without thinking I fired the gun, it was like slow motion. The bullet traveled, but was too slow. Patrick was on the ground - and the bullet hit the wall behind him. I had effectively gained everyone's attention.

With a small war cry I chucked the gun to my left and leaped off the bridge. My feet pounded as they hit the ground, hard. Bending my knees, absorbing the harshness of the jump - I was fine. I wasted no time in launching myself at Patrick alike to last time. As if I was replaying the scene from yesterday, I had him pinned underneath me - except this time I was repeatedly slamming his head to the ground.

"This is your fault! Why would you bring me back? Why would you let me die in the first place? I was at peace, I was resting - I was in paradise! You don't wake the dead from rest, it's against nature!" I bellowed, my eyes burning in unmasked fury. "What is dead, stay's dead!" My hand gripped his throat, unforgiving. "I will never forgive you!"

"Jolene!" Maverick's body hit me from the side, causing us to go both go flying.

Patrick gasped as my body was off his, his neck left with red marks. I screamed throwing Maverick off me with my mind. He landed with a thud, getting up not even a second later. I turned to face Patrick once more, my anger reaching a level I had never felt.

Just as I was about to pounce on him, Maverick teleported so he was behind me. "Jolene, snap out of it!" He screamed, wrapping his arms around me.

Remember when I said his height could serve as both advantage and disadvantage? Well, this was one of those moments where it was an advantage to him.

"Let me go! I will kill him!" I yelled, desperately fighting Maverick's hold.

He lifted me off the ground, hugging me tight against his body so I couldn't escape. Shrieks of rage left me, as I watched Patrick like a hawk.

"You hear me, you son of a bitch? I'll kill you! I don't care if we share blood, you're no family to me!" I yelled, thrashing about as Maverick began pulling me back.

Spirits watched me curiously, seemingly wanting to help. Looking over at a small group of spirits leaning against the wall, I smiled.

"You want to help? Help me!" I yelled over at them, seeing them get an eager expression.

"Fuck! She's talking to the spirits! Maverick, get her out of here, before she convinces them to kill Patrick!" My dad yelled, "Even if I want to kill him, you know as well as I, she'll regret it!"

"No I won't!" I argued. "Wait, till Death see's me alive! You think he'll be pitiful on you? No, he won't! What is dead, stay's dead! We're both damned to hell now, thanks to you!" I honestly wasn't even sure what was leaving my mouth at this point, all I saw was red.

"Maverick, get her out!" It was Carlisle this time, gazing at me worriedly.

Out of the corner of my eyes, I could see Aro watching with a mixture of shock, sadness, and worry. He looked like he wanted more than anything to be the one to come and hold me back. Like he needed to protect me himself. He couldn't though, because it would raise suspicions as to how a 'normal' man is able to hold off a girl with advanced strength. Caius actually was holding Aro by the arm, in case he charged.

"Aro!" I wailed, hysteria coming and eating me alive.

This caused for Caius to actually need to let go of Dora to hold him back. My attention was then snapped back to the spirits.

"You're the medium, Jolene!" One cried in realization. "You can see us!"

"I will release all your holds on this world, and let you move on - just help me!" I pleaded, my voice growing in desperation.

"Stop calling upon the dead, Jolene!" Maverick yelled, as he began dragging me away.

"Can you hear me! I call upon any and all spirits, help me!" I screamed, fighting harder than ever before. "Death will come, and he will be so angry! You have broken the laws of nature, Patrick!" I screeched.

"Maverick, go!" It was my mom this time, looking to the two of us in worry. "The holding lab, get her in the holding lab!"

"Aro!" I wailed out in despair.

At this point I was trying to pry Maverick's hands away from me, with my powers. He yelled as he pulled me closer, trying to not let go. Before I could comprehend anything, the world spun around us in a mass of colors and suddenly we were standing in an empty room.

There wasn't much in there, other than a patient's bed in the center. I noticed the holding restraints it had on it. I screeched, trying to free myself as Maverick brought us closer. With a yell, he pushed me on the table and manged to restrain my hands down - despite my struggling. I kicked my legs out, as he began to buckle them down down to the table.

"AHHHH!" Screams left me, as I tried fighting against the restraints - going ballistic.

Maverick stepped back, looking down at me with tears in his eyes. I knew my eyes were still black as I fought against the restraints. After five minutes of constant screaming, my yells died down turning into to sobs of sadness and anger.

"Maverick, help me!" I sobbed, I wasn't even sure why I was asking for help for at this point.

He didn't reply, only turned around so he wasn't facing me. I could see his shoulders shake as he cried for me. A chilling cold began to engulf, it was a cold that I was familiar with. The chilling cold temperature that Death seemed to bring as he traveled. Maverick sniffed looking around in confusion, wiping the tears away from his eyes.

A tear fell from my eye, I knew he was here. Death finally realized I wasn't where I was suppose to be. Before my eyes, Death appeared in all his glory. He hadn't aged since I last saw him, in fact he looked the same - minus the different suit. He had a curious look in his warm brown eyes, as he looked to my strapped down form.

"Do not fret, darling. I am here, but I must ask. May I please have an explanation as to how you're still alive? I clearly remember the heartbreak I felt when I carried your soul to the Heavens, but here you are. My, aren't you just a girl full of wonders." Death gave me, a breathtaking smile.

However, I did not swoon. I already had Aro, but I did hand a bright smile back to him in turn.

"Hello. I've missed you." I told in, my sobs ceasing as he wiped the tears falling from my eyes.

"I'm sorry I must be missing something. But you just appeared in here, and greeted Jolene like an old friend. Who are you?" Maverick questioned watching in shock as Death flashed him a nice smile.

"Oh yes, where are my manners. I am Death. I would shake your hand, but I'm afraid you would die if you touched me." Death said, his eyes flashing an unnatural crystal blue.
