Lia leapt off the window, the force of the explosion sending her roughly upon the platform. She rolled once she landed to balance her jump, standing up swiftly with a grunt before catching sight of Yelena who stood on top the helicarrier Dreykov was on, her eyes widening.

Golden eyes met sapphire ones, and Yelena smiled at her as she expanded her staff and readied herself. The blonde was going to blow up the helicarrier, and herself in the process. Lia knew she couldn't make it to her in time.

"Yelena! Don't you dare do it!" Lia exclaimed.

Yelena only grinned in response. "This was fun, Herondale."

The realisation suddenly struck her along with her emotions like a powerful punch as the nephilim stared at Yelena, not taking her eyes off the blonde for even a split second. She had been Lia's problem all along.

If Yelena wanted cook, Lia would let her burn down the whole house. If the blonde wanted to scream, the dark-haired female would let her deafen her. If Yelena wanted to break her, the nephilim would let her.

Lia had never loved someone enough to let them destroy her, but oh god, Yelena could aim her gun at her or take her by the throat and Lia's eyes would sparkle at the mere inches between them. She realised now how much power Yelena truly possessed over her.

Love is to destroy.

That phrase repeated in her mind like a broken record. She knew Yelena would be her fatal flaw, something that she didn't mind at all, in fact she embraced it. If love is to destroy, then she wouldn't mind being torn apart.

So when the impact of the explosion from the helicarrier knocked Yelena off the helicopter, the nephilim didn't hesitate even for a split second and jumped off the platform after her, ignoring Natasha's calls which soon fell deaf to her ears.

Lia balled up her body, tucking in her knees before unloading her body like a spring, giving her a boost and increasing her velocity as she plummeted towards a free falling Yelena, the wind underneath her like a solid block of ice. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of Natasha battling with Taskmaster through the sky but all that mattered to her in that moment was saving Yelena.

The distance between them decreased and Lia soon managed to wrap her arms protectively around Yelena's waist, who's eyes widened slightly and turned her head to come face-to-face with Lia. The blonde was still disoriented by the explosion and her eyes were half shut but her face burned a dark red shade.

Lia's heart was beating so hard and rapidly that Yelena could feel it through her clothes, and thought that Lia could probably hear hers too. The two began descending to the ground even faster, the howls of the wind piercing their ears.

Lia knew that at this falling rate, they both would turn splat on the ground like a pancake, something that she really did not want. The nephilim rifled through her scattered thoughts for any ideas, but only one came to her mind.

She glanced at the blonde, who's eyes were shut. Taking a deep breath, Lia closed her eyes, her hold on Yelena tightening slightly as she summoned the only remaining power she had. Fire struck at her veins, and Lia's body began to tremble.

In a blink of an eye, a pair of feathery pure silver wings expanded from her shoulder blades, growing as tall as her body, arcing off her back like a concave reflection. The smaller feathers blended intricately with the larger ones, having a tint of gold within them.

Lia bit her lip to prevent a shriek of agony escaping her lips. She could feel blood seeping through the back of her shirt like a broken faucet, and her breathing was unsteady and heavy, her breaths barely making it through her tired lungs.

Her body was rippling with power and alight with bursts of silver and gold. The wisps of air rolled off of her figure as she slowly gained control of her momentum in the sky, slowing their fall rate.

She felt faint and dizzy, her throat dry and bitter with dried blood as her vision turned blurry. Her eyes fought to stay open and focused which was proving to be very difficult. The last thing she remembered was encasing Yelena in a protective manner with her wings before hitting the ground roughly as they skidded to a stop.

A painful groan escaped Lia's lips as she felt her body being shaken, stirring into consciousness once again. Yelena held Lia in her arms, watching worriedly as Lia's golden eyes blinked open halfway who's back was drenched with her own blood, and her wings had disappeared right after they hit the ground.

"Lia, come on. Wake up," Yelena pleaded.

"Hmm," Lia mumbled in the blonde's arms, drawing a shallow breath.

A tear traced down Yelena's cheek. "You scared me, idiot. Why the hell would you jump after me?! Do you have a death wish?"

Lia frowned upon noticing tears in the blonde's eyes. "I don't-"

"Just stop," Yelena cut her off, shaking her head and took a shuddering breath.

Her tone wasn't angry at all, just scared. Lia's heart twinged upon seeing how worried Yelena was about her, slowly sitting up and turning her head towards her, flinching slightly from her back ache.

"Hey, I'm okay," Lia swallowed. "It's alright."

"It's not alright though!" Yelena snapped. "I could've lost you! I'm not worth risking your own life for!"

Lia gently cupped the blonde's cheeks. "Don't ever say that, alright? You're worth risking everything for."

Yelena buried her face in Lia's shoulder as the nephilim held her tightly. All that the blonde could think was Lia's presence before her. She could hear Lia's steady heartbeat as she leaned further, melting into the embrace, inhaling the sweet but powerful scent that radiated off Lia, bringing a sense of calmness to her.

"Please don't ever do that again," Yelena mumbled through Lia's shoulder.

"I'll try my best." Lia whispered back, planting a gentle kiss on Yelena's temple.

The two leaned their foreheads against one another, a smile gracing both their lips as they met each other's gazes. Yelena was lost deep in the golden of Lia's eyes while the nephilim had drowned in the ocean of the blonde's ones.

"I can't imagine a world without you, Herondale."

"I can't imagine a world without you either, Belova."

In that moment, even if they didn't know it until now, their souls had been waiting for each other forever. The two stayed like that, their moment meaning so much more than either of them anticipated.

They were broken out of their moment when they heard Natasha calling out their names. Yelena stood up before helping Lia up who slung her arm around the blonde, leaning into her to keep herself steady.

Lia then stepped to the side, letting Natasha embrace Yelena as the two sisters shared a moment. When the two broke apart, the redhead turned her attention to Lia before giving her a hug too which surprised her.

"Thank you," Natasha whispered in her ear. "For protecting her and keeping her safe."

"Always." Lia smiled before the two broke apart before she caught sight of Taskmaster unmasked, her eyebrows furrowing.

"Wait, Taskmaster had been a female all along?" Natasha nodded in response while Lia had a knowing look on her face. "Wow, and I would've never known."

"Everybody good?" Natasha asked Melina and Alexei who walked towards them.

"I am clearly injured," Melina deadpanned before smiling slightly at the group.

"You got something to say?" Natasha asked Alexei.

"I'd just mess it up," he joked.

Just then, a group of cars advanced towards them, making Natasha sigh. "Here comes the cavalry."

"So, what's our plan?" Alexei asked.

"You guys go. I'll stay," Natasha replied.

Lia shook her head. "That's insanity."

"We fight," Yelena added.

"We all fight with you." Melina nodded.

Natasha shook her head. "I'll hold them off."

"Okay, well, if you're leaving, then I guess, you should take this," Yelena said, unzipping her vest before handing it to Natasha. "I know how much you like it."

"Thanks." Natasha smiled, taking it from her hand. "It does have a lot of pockets."

Yelena laughed. "Very handy pockets, yeah."

"He had widows implanted all over the world," Natasha informed, handing Yelena a flash drive. "Melina will need to copy the formula, but you should be the one to tell them it's over."

A helicarrier flew in and landed behind the family, the door opened to reveal a group of widows, surprising Yelena who advanced towards them. Both Alexei and Melina bid goodbyes to Natasha before also making their way towards the jet, leaving Lia and Natasha alone.

"You sure you don't need any help? I can stay behind with you," Lia offered.

"Yeah, don't worry. Besides, I don't think Yelena will let you out of her sight anytime soon," Natasha replied, smirking while Lia grinned in response.

"Well, if you need any help, I'm only a call away," Lia stated.

"Thank you," Natasha replied sincerely before making her way through the rubble to deal with the cars.

Lia turned around to see Yelena walking towards her. "What are you going to do now, now that Dreykov's gone?"

"I honestly don't know what's going to happen next," Lia shrugged. "I can't read the stars or converse with the Fates but I do know this; I'm all in with you, here and now, until I'm dead in the dirt. And no matter how difficult it gets, or how desperately the world tries to tear us apart, I'll always be with you."

"It's gonna be tough," Yelena stated, a smile forming on her face.

Lia shook her head. "Not when we're together."

Yelena grinned fondly at Lia. "Then let's go."

The nephilim's soul may had been broken like fragments as did the blonde's, but the two had picked up one another's pieces along the way and became one. They were finally complete.

And with interlocked fingers, they were ready to take on the world together.
