Chapter 6: A Trip to Hearth
Give me a dime everytime I say sorry for disappearing .
Heyyy guys. I'm back with a short update and I'm hoping to update a longer one next time. I seriously didn't want to keep y'all hanging so I'm updating. Hope u guys enjoy.
To say last night was terrifying would be an understatement. It took me a while to snap out of the horrific scenario I was exposed to and realize it was a dream. I was tempted to go to the basement, to check whether something had happened there after all.
'Oh sure. Let's do the same shit every horror protagonist does to fall into the enemy's trap. What are we going to do once we go down? Scream hello? Sounds cute.' Did I mention my subconscious was a lover of sarcasm? Well, there you have it ladies and gentlemen. It was a battle between logic and inner peace and somehow, logic won.
Trembling in trepidation, I climbed out of the covers to get dressed for school. I looked at the clock lazily and that was when adrenaline kicked in.
"School starts off in ten minutes!" I rushed to the bathroom, only cursing back out when I realized what had happened yesterday in there. Groaning, I got dressed and ran out the front door. Surprisingly, my mother wasn't there to chastise me for skipping breakfast. How odd.
In record time, I arrived at the gate and took a minute to compose myself.
"No matter what happens, never let people understand the chaos that engulfs you. People want you to be afraid, to be clumsy, to be vulnerable. Never let them see whether they get under your skin. Otherwise, it would be easy for them to break your bones underneath that layer of skin."
I remembered what Cliste told me and hid my flustered expression. I couldn't show that arriving late fazed me. It, in a way, gave away my character to the people. With a steady rhythm, I arrived in class and muttered a small apology to the teacher. Thankfully, the teacher liked me and knew of my punctuality so let me off the hook.
After hours of monotonous lecturing and writing, the classes ended and we were finally free for the week; well mostly everyone. It was hell for me wherever I went. I avoided Elias like the plague, not at all in the mood to handle his optimistic energy. Why couldn't I be like him? Why was my life so messed up? My mood dampened due to my meaningless thoughts and wishes and hence, caused me to greet my therapist with a scowl. Cliste looked at me with a smile, obviously pleased to see me after a week. When she realized I wouldn't return the look, her eyes narrowed and her mouth set into a straight line. It was almost comical to see that transition on her face.
"Well, somebody had a bad day. You wanna come in and rant about it or do you wanna keep scowling like an old woman who lived way past her expiry date?" I would have laughed if I wasn't so pissed at myself. Shaking my head at her wittiness, I cracked a small smile and walked in.
"Your insults need work Cliste." I deadpanned.
"So does your personality but you don't see me calling you out now do you?" Cliste retorted.
"Touché." Cliste laughed whilst she made us a cup of coffee. There was something about the way she laughed, something I wish I could achieve. It was... carefree and wild, surrounding the room with a sense of comfort and serenity. She wasn't afraid to make me feel at home.
"So, what's bothering you? I mean other than the supernatural faceless prick?" Yeah. Cliste knew. Surprisingly, my therapist thought I was sane and the others didn't. How damn ironic.
"He has a mouth." I mumbled.
"Oh that's nice." Cliste replied whilst taking a sip of her tea. She froze... and then spit it out in shock. "HE HAS A WHAT?"
Instantly I thought back to the dream and that's when I realized something very peculiar. I only ever saw his shadow and his deadly grin exaggerated by his fangs. I never saw his face. How is that even possible? I repeated my thoughts to a grim Cliste who nodded her head in understanding.
"Clearly things have taken a drastic turn." The hell does she mean?
"Alright listen to me carefully. I need you to remember what I always tell you okay?
I sighed angrily. "That's all?" She shook her head. "It isn't just a mantra my friend. Its your sanity. Hold it tight. Trust me it will come in handy."
