Until Tomorrow, Madam
Raven couldn't help but show off as she chose her codename. She knew Mystique would raise questions. She also knew that it would be nice for Lyric, getting to see everyone's abilities and personalities.
Boy was she right. The little girl had already seen Raven transform, but it was still amazing each time. After Mystique, the red head went, Sean, his name was. He warned everyone to cover their ears, though that didn't help Lyric much. The piercing noise still made her ears and head ache, but it didn't matter to her. As the glass window shattered, Lyric clapped happily.
When the other girl, Angel, stood up, Lyric felt the need to advert her eyes. When she said 'stage name' and began to pull of her jacket, she knew that Angel was one of the dancing ladies at the grown up building. Just as the girl went to look away, she heard the unfurling of wings.
There before her very eyes was a real life fairy! Lyric couldn't believe it! Everyone was so different, but so alike. Though, they all seemed a lot more alike until Hank's turn came around and Alex rudely joked about him being called Bigfoot.
As the words left his mouth, Lyric felt as if she had never been so let down in her life. Thankfully, Raven stood up for Hank, making what seemed to be a joke about their feet. She didn't get it, the joke flew right over her head, especially when she looked at their feet and saw that with his shoes on, Hank's feet weren't much bigger than Alex's.
Was she apart of the joke because her feet were small? None of it made sense to her and she made a mental note to ask her mom later. She didn't want to ask her dad in case the joke was a touchy subject for all men as it seemed to be to the ones in the vicinity.
Lyric was so wrapped up in her thoughts about the confusing joke that she didn't even notice it was Alex's turn until everyone else got up and walked to the broken window. Despite his mean remark to Hank, Lyric was still curious as to what his mutation was.
Sneaking past the broken glass, Lyric made her way to the rest of the group and peeked out of the window. Alex told everyone to get back, but seeing no one else did it, Lyric didn't move either. "Whatever." Alex mumbled before clenching his fists. Swiveling his body from his shoulders to his hips, he created what looked like lasers that came off of him in circular waves. They destroyed the statue and immediately, any bad thought Lyric had generated about the grumpy mutant had flown out the gaping window. Alex was... amazing, in the simplest and most complex of ways.
Everyone was laughing and cheering as he made his way back into the room. As they all sat down, Lyric beamed at him, "That was amazing." Was all she could say as she took in all of his features. The teen chuckled, almost bashfully, "Thanks." He responded to her.
There was no paying attention to what anyone else did, no, Lyric was too busy daydreaming about Alex. About his bright smile and bright hair and how he didn't call her any mean names or act like he could catch the apparent disease of melanin if he touched her.
The little girl was so enveloped in her thoughts that she didn't even know Raven was calling her name until Alex tapped her shoulder. Lyric turned her head quickly to Raven, her hair beads slapping her cheeks. "It's your turn now, Lyric. We have to see what you can do before we all decide on a name." Raven repeated.
She knew herself what Lyric could do, but everyone else got to show off and she wanted her to be able to do it also. Raven knew how it felt to never get to show any one the cool things your mutation could help you do, and she'd be damned if she ever let Lyric feel that while she was around.
"Oh, um, I have super senses." Lyric responded, not really knowing if they'd know what she was doing if she didn't explain. Angel still asked before Lyric could show what she meant exactly. "Eyes, ears, nose, mouth, hands. My senses are superior." Slipping out of her chair, Lyric walked over to Raven, "I can see Raven's true form if I try, or um, the stuff you have in your purse, like the key you have painted purple. It's on a minnie mouse lanyard.
"I can hear Sean's heart racing, like he's excited though. Not like he's scared, they sound different." They all giggled and gasped at Lyric's display. Asking first, she grabbed Raven's hand, "I could smell that all of you were mutants before I got here, but I can also smell the shea butter shampoo Alex uses in his hair. Holding Raven's hand, I can feel she is cold, not her skin, but internally. Does it feel like I'm hugging you?" Lyric asked the older girl. When she nodded, Lyric couldn't help but smile, "My mom's been helping me work on that one."
Releasing Raven's hand, Lyric walked around the back of the couch. Without asking, Lyric chastely placed her lips against Hank's cheek, "And I could smell that Hank was a bit uncomfortable and nervous. Kisses are supposed to ease your mind, so I took some of that away and gave some peace, happiness. My daddy doesn't like that one very much, but Mommy still has me practice so I can control them all when I live on my own."
As Lyric sits back in her seat, Raven laughs, "Amazing, right?" She gushed like a proud mother. The positive attention made Lyric happy. The group all shouted out ideas for names, but none of them seemed to truly fit. "We could always figure one out tomorrow, that is, if you want, Lyric."
Lyric couldn't hold her smile back at this point. Tomorrow, that meant they welcomed her with open arms. The youngest of the mutants nodded her head excitedly, making Raven smile.
This seemed to dispell that portion of the night and everyone began to do their own thing. Before Lyric could get up and try to beat Darwin to the pinball machine, her father poked his head into the room, "Hey honey, your mom is here to pick you up. Say goodbye to everybody and head on up, okay?"
With a nod, Lyric slid from her chair once again, "Okay daddy." As he disappeared from view again, Lyric walked over to Raven, who was grabbing herself another soda, "Raven, I have to leave now, but when Charles gets here, can you tell him my dad said I might get super strength soon, so if he needs an assistant, I could carry his stuff."
Raven holds in her amused chuckle, not wanting the young girl to think she's laughing at her, "No problem. I'll see you tomorrow. Maybe I can come and get you early and we can hang out just the two of us." The older girl proposed, revelling in the feeling of having someone she could do that with. Lyric answered with a tight hug, which Raven easily returned.
Calling a goodbye to Hank, Lyric made her way to the door, which, fortunately for her, was near the pinball machine where Alex was waiting for Darwin to lose his turn.
"Seems like I'll see you tomorrow." Alex said to the girl as she paused by him. Every time someone said it, Lyric would get excited. She had plans. "Yeah, and me and Raven are going to hang out before we come back." Lyric said, hoping to convey that she was worthy to be friends with someone their age, how she could convince him she was worthy to be friends with someone of his age and all around beauty, she had no idea.
Alex laughed when she said this, not being worried the same way Raven was, "Lucky for Raven." His words made Lyric's heart swell and before she could even think of what or why she was doing it, she grabbed his hand and placed a kiss on the top of it.
As her lips made contact with his hand, Alex felt a surge of unexplainable joy that left him feeling a little happier. With a chuckle at the girl's antics, Alex lifted her hand to his mouth and donned a dapper face, "Until tomorrow, Madam." He said before placing a chaste kiss on her hand as she had done his.
"Until tomorrow." Lyric beamed at the boy as she made her way out of the room. She didn't bother saying goodbye to anyone else, no she had way too much on her mind as she contained the excited yell she so desperately wanted to release.
Finally, Lyric made it to the front doors and could see her mother and father talking as they waited on her. "Mommy!" The little girl cheered as she ran into her mother's open arms. David smiled as he looked at his family, his wife and his little girl, "David, I asked if you'd be home for dinner tonight." His wife asked for what seemed to be a second time. Lyric scoffed silently as she realized who she got the daydreaming from.
"Yeah. As soon as Charles gets back, I'm gonna give him those papers he asked for and then I'll be right home. Don't worry Steph, I won't stay late tonight." The couple shared a kiss as their farewell, David placing a kiss on Lyric's forehead on her way out as well.
Stephanie and Lyric walked to their car hand in hand, Lyric made sure to keep her kissed hand to her chest though. Her mother noticed the weird behavior and cut a side eye at her daughter, "Is everything okay with your hand, Lyric?"
The young mutant smiled at the memory, her mind replaying the feeling of his lips on her hand, "Mommy? What does love feel like?" Lyric asked, sighing like a girl in a movie. The question startled Stephanie, "Oh! Love, huh? Who's the lucky fella?"
Squeezing her hand tighter to her chest, Lyric sighed again, "Alex, but we call him Havok now. He kissed my hand until tomorrow." Stephanie lifted her eyebrow at the behaviors of a boy she figured to be closer to her daughter's age, "Until tomorrow, huh?" Lyric nodded at this and pulled open the car door, "Yes. I love tomorrow."
