11 - "Never Again."
Helena did not mind heights...when she was safe in a plane. But this, being abducted by this...robot, she minded a lot. She should have ducked when fellow New Yorkers had done the same.
Then again, how was she to know the robot wanted to nab her?
Helena fought against the robot's grip. The streets, cars, streetlights, stoplights, you name it, were growing smaller the higher the two flew. I may go skydiving, but I'm not being abducted like this. She doubted her power could subdue or kill a machine, and she definitely didn't want to risk sending a plague on all that were watching her being taken.
Helena searched for Wanda frantically below in the small specs. She couldn't find the witch anywhere. Wanda, you're my only hope. I don't want to become a sidewalk pancake. Please!
Helena screamed as the robot continued to fly her higher into the sky. Birds cawed in surprise at the two of them. The robot paid the birds no mind. It seemed so focused on taking her away that it did not speak to her.
"Put me down!" Helena insisted.
The robot did not look down at her, but responded, "I am trying to save you. Wanda Maximoff is a danger to society."
This is about Wanda? "No, she's not! What—who are you?!"
"I am here to help you."
"That's definitely not what I asked. Put me down!"
"Not until we are in a safe location."
Suddenly, a red blast broke Helena and the robot apart.
Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. Helena freefell, screaming every second she could. She refused to look down below, she was already on the verge of vomiting from the sudden drop.
I might just die. I'll go splat on the sidewalk, or on the roof of a building. Maybe someone will break my fall. Why couldn't I be given the ability to fly?!
Something caught Helena in her pursuit of hitting the ground. Her breath got knocked out of her.
"I've got you."
Helena gasped in surprise. Despite being held in both arms, Wanda Maximoff kept them afloat in the air. If Helena's heart didn't slow down, she would've kissed the witch for catching her. What a cliché moment to think about kissing a girl.
"What—what is that thing?" Helena rasped, her body trembling from the sudden adrenaline.
"We need to get out of its sight. Hold onto me."
"Not a problem." Helena held onto Wanda tighter for emphasis.
Despite being relatively high in the air, Wanda slowed her flight speed down. Helena didn't dare look down at New York. I wanted no attention, but I just got a lot of it from people down below. Great. Her attention wouldn't be for her powers but rather being abducted by a green and red robot who thought Wanda was a bad person.
"Here we go, this may be it," said Wanda. She put the two in a slow, tranquil descent towards the ground. The area was vacant of people. If the robot did happen to find them, there'd be less people to get hurt.
"I need to hide you someplace safe," said Wanda.
Helena leapt out of the witch's arms, her eyes went skyward to look for the menace in the sky. "You need to come with me; that thing wants to hurt you."
"I don't believe so; it took you, not me." Wanda's brows furrowed. "If he finds us, let me handle him. I have encountered him before."
"Instead of gossiping, you two should have kept running," said the android, who ghosted gently to their level. He hovered over the ground by a few inches.
"Where's the rest of your crew?" Wanda sneered. She pushed Helena behind her protectively. "Are they too afraid of me to come out and play?"
Helena looked between the two in confusion. Rest of his crew? Does she mean...he's connected with the Avengers?
"We do not want to hurt you, Wanda." The robot held out a calming sign of surrender.
The witch's laugh rattled Helena to her bones. It was a dark, threatening laugh. "But you already have. You are the reason my brother is dead. Now, you are stealing people that I care about. You need to understand my pain. You need to understand that you just need to back off and leave me be."
"We can be diplomatic about this if you let me take you back to the facility."
"That doesn't sound ominous at all," scoffed Helena.
"Whatever she has done to your mind, miss, I will take you to some people who can help you see clearly."
"I do see clearly, and she's not going anywhere with you, tin head."
"I am not made of tin."
Jesus Christ, it's stupid. Helena felt powerless. The robot could fly, and Wanda had her abilities. Really, it was a match for them, for Helena to sit back and watch. She wasn't sure if she could do that. If the robot hurt Wanda...
"Do not make this difficult. We don't want to put lives at risk."
"I believe that isn't true at all, for all that you do." Wanda shot a ball of hex at the robot, to which he neatly flew away from. "Find cover. I will handle him."
"Wanda—" Helena tried.
"There's nothing you can do to help. The best thing you can do is hide."
Helena looked around. No spectators except for her. But there wasn't much cover to have. "Keep him away if you have to. Be careful."
"Oh, I will."
The robot and Wanda charged for one another. The robot looked to not want to harm Wanda, as he had mentioned before. Helena's body stiffened as she watched the witch fight. At times, the robot would try and fly past her, but she'd yanked him right back to her with magic.
As if Wanda Maximoff couldn't get any more attractive in Helena's eyes; watching her use her magic...
Damn. She's a badass.
Helena started to run when the robot slipped past Wanda. She felt a strong, cold arm grab her waist, and Helena screamed as she was airborne once again.
"Damn it, what is your problem?!" she screeched at the machine.
"I'm trying—"
"You are not saving me, you're only pissing my girlfriend off!"
Helena lurched forward as the robot got enveloped in a ball of red wisps. The two barreled for the roof of a high building. The robot rolled so that he would take the brunt of the impact. Being held tight by a machine did not bode well with Helena.
Helena scrambled away from the robot as soon as she felt his grip slacken. Wanda landed on the roof nimbly. She nodded for Helena, Helena gladly ran to stand at the witch's side.
"Stay back," Wanda told her. Helena nodded. Wanda advanced on the robot, red wisps glowing furiously on both hands.
"Wanda, do not do this."
"If you did not try and take her, I wouldn't. This is to make sure you never do this again." With a loud cry, Wanda thrust both hands full of red power at the robot.
Helena did not notice it at first, with all the craziness, but she now realized there was a yellow stone at the top of the robot's red forehead. More red swirled around his body, not allowing him to move a muscle.
He was trapped, at Wanda's mercy.
Words were caught in Helena's throat. She should tell Wanda to stop. But...for all the potential heart attacks the robot put her through, she decided to stand back and let her girlfriend defeat it.
"Wanda...please," the robot grunted.
"Never again," the witch hissed.
The stone in the robot shattered, breaking free of its forehead. The impact shoved hard into Helena's chest, sending her once against airborne, falling down the building.
Wanda! Wanda! The further she fell from the top, she did not see Wanda leap down for her.
Until she saw a flash of brown hair rocketing down. Helena raised her arms for Wanda. She got her arms clasped around the witch's neck once she was within reach.
"I've got you," Wanda murmured above the wind. Helena's descent slowed a lot. "Let's move. People are watching us."
"Just...just set us down somewhere, I don't care."
Helena shut her eyes until she felt her feet hit solid grass. When she opened her eyes, Wanda had put them behind some shrubbery. Wanda's arms hugged Helena, and she borrowed her head into Wanda's neck.
"What was that?" Helena pulled from Wanda slightly.
"Tony Stark's Vision," Wanda spat.
"Vision?" Helena cocked her head.
"It was created to compete with Ultron, another Stark abomination. Vision was created to be Ultron's opposite. It's most certainly loyal to its master."
"But why did it come after me? I didn't offend it, or them in any way. Do they know about me?"
"They must be watching us. Vision wouldn't have known where to find us or to take you otherwise."
"You saved me," Helena whispered.
"You're surprised?" Wanda put her hands against Helena's face. "You're all I've got, Helena. I can't let them take you away from me. And they never will."
Though Helena didn't want to say it in front of Wanda, she hoped that she did not start killing Avengers in her name.
