Chapter 6

                                                                ~Joy~

The bustling of the camp woke me up as I stretched in the nest provided for me. Pain shot through me as I did my best to haul myself up. After countless try's I managed to finally stagger myself onto my paws, wincing in pain while doing so.

"They will take a bit to heal. Take it easy for the next few days." I hear the soft voice of Moon tell me. I nod my head in response as I trudged my way to the exit of the den, the vines brushing over my fur as I took in a deep sigh, inhaling the smells of the forest. I limped my way to the prey pile, picking a thrush for myself and a plump rabbit for Whisper. My head cocking in confusion as my gaze swept over Whisper's empty den, my tail started to slowly wag behind me when I hear familiar snores, coming from, Jay's den? I tiptoed my way to Jay's new den as my tail slowly waved behind me in amusement as I saw Jay and Whisper snuggled up to each other. With a loud plop I dropped the prey in my jaw, the two sleeping foxes woke up with a jolt. Both of their alert faces softening to flustered ones noticing what position they were in, bright red creeping on their faces.

"I-it's not what it looks l-like!" Jay stuttered, I smirk at the two, rolling my eyes playfully as I nosed the kill closer to them,

"Hey! It's not my or Jay's fault that there was a storm, he has a thing for storms so lay off would you?" Whisper defensively growled.

I shrugged,

"Maybe you guys can share this." I told them while pawing the rabbit. Jay's eyes lit up as Whisper  gave me a thoughtful glance."Maybe you guys can share a den too." I whispered to myself,

"W-what was that?" Jay called, shoot he heard.

"N-nothing!!" I replied over my shoulder. Picking up my pace as I limped out of the den. I settled myself near Twig, sneezing as feathers on my prey landed on my nose.

Finishing my thrush with a final gulp, I made my way towards Moon's den to get more remedies for my scratches since they were starting to get sore. I sniffed the air for any trace of the healer.

"May I help you with something?" Moon revealed herself, a bundle of herbs in her jaw.

"Errr, yeah. I need some herbs for my wounds, they are getting sore." I explained. I watched as the healer nodded as she darted to the back of the den, returning immediately with 2 different remedies in her mouth. She set the, down on the floor gently.

"Here, this one will make you feel a little numb so you won't feel as much pain." She said gesturing towards a mint green leaf, fuzzy on top with a curvy sructure."This one should help with the pain itself, take 1 of each everyday if the pain doesn't seize." Moon added prodding the herbs closer to my paws. I dipped my head in thanks and respect as I made my way towards my den.

Seating myself comfortably in my nest, I nuzzled the bundle of herbs I received, slowly crunching one of each, scowling at the nasty taste it brought forth. Maybe I could get some water to wash it down. I pondered, quickly agreeing with the idea as I hauled myself up once more. I left my den as I spotted the deputy of Firepack, Leaf. I walked up towards the brown fox, she brought her attention towards me as her amber eyes followed me. I cleared my throat, hesitating.

"I.....um.....uhh" I mumbled. Looking quickly down at my paws embarrassed,

"Spit it out Joy." Leaf ordered slightly agitated but with a small chuckle.

"I had a battle with Fang of Frostpack and recieved a few nasty wounds from the battle, I went to Moon and she treated my cuts and helped me, but then my wounds started to get sore again and they started to hurt. So I went to Moon once more to get some remedies to help with the pain,  she gave me two herbs to gulp down every day if the pain was still there. The herbs did not taste that well so I was wondering if I could get some water to get rid of the taste." I rambled on swiftly, I wasn't entirely sure if Leaf could understand what I was saying I said it so fast but she seem to understand as she nodded her head in approval.

I bounced my way out of camp, making my way towards the river. I felt my fur stand on end as I heard the yelling of baldpelts. Baldpelts were these creatures, standing of two of their paws. Instead of being furry their skin acted as their pelt. Most of the time their fur would be on top of their head or on some occasions, on their chin. I shuddered at the thought of the baldpelts hinting right now, but I pushed away the thought and continued my walk through the forest.

Eventually I found my way towards the river, my mouth had been pretty dry by the time I got there. The foul taste in my mouth still lingered, but I grunted in delight as cold water trickled down my throat, removing the putrid taste in my mouth. I licked my lips in satisfaction, making my way back towards camp. My fears escalated as my nose picked up scents such as baldpelts and bears. They were confirmed as I heard a deep rustle in the bushes surrounding me, I stopped dead in my tracks as I stood tall to look menacing.

"Who's there." I growled, my eyes narrowing into slits, the rustling became louder and louder. I did my best to stay calm as the rustling stopped. I looked around ready for action, at least I thought. The spectator launched themself at me, pinning my clean pelt in the dirt. I braced for the pain but it didn't come, the attacker's paws were placed on each of my sides. I look up to meet the eyes of my attacker, ready to haul them off. I look up to see......Jay??

"Uhhhh Jay, what are you doing out here?" I asked pushing him off me with ease, seriously, it wouldn't take much effort to actually learn to properly pounce. The gray fox sighed as he sat himself down, surrounded by prey. My eyes widen at the catch.

"Did you hunt..a-all that?" I questioned, surprise present in my tone.

"Yep."he shrugged as if it were no big deal, I scoffed at his lack of pride in his work.

"Need help carrying it?" I offered, Jay looked back up at me, a light smile spreading across his face.

"I would appreciate that." He shyly said as if he had no confidence whatsoever. I returned the smile as I picked up three mice and a pidgeon while Jay picked up a shrew along with a rabbit.

"Jay! Kit!" Night hollered as he darted to see Jay.

"I'm not your kit." He mumbled, looking down. I snicker at his remark as I watch him gaze back up at Night.

"Kit, you can't just go out without permission like that. Enemies could find you and bad things can happen!" Night's tone darkened. I hear a small whimper coming from Jay as he slowly nodded. Night sighed.

"I do appreciate the catches you've made though kit." Night said a little lighter, noticing Jay didn't like a scolding. A flash of happiness danced in Jay's eyes for a split second before it returned to his normal appearance, and with that, he and I dropped his kill into the prey pile. He passed the pile as he turned to his den. I sighed to myself, that fox is so weird.
