Ash's mother died, and Ash was about to die as well until a human found her and took her to a zoo. Ash escaped when she was 9 moons old, and went to live in the forest. She still struggles with surviving, since she had never been taught how to hunt and fight, but she manages. She even found a mate, a red fox named Russet. She had two kits with him, but Russet soon disappeared after that, and he's thought to be dead. Sick with grief, Ash found it hard to take care of her kits, and they eventually ended up dying as well. Ash blames herself for their death, and she wants more kits so that she can make sure that they live.

The dogs chased after Misty, and one of them pounced on her, clawed her left eye, and blinded it, leaving a scar. Misty got away from the hunter and dogs, and found herself a den.
