~~ SEVENTEEN ~~
"Who are you?" the Holy knight questioned, turning his gaze away from Meliodas and levelling his sword at me.
"Captain!" the giant lady whined loudly, glaring daggers at me. "You have another woman by your side?!"
"Don't get the wrong idea," I called across the clearing, shuffling forward slowly. My chicken friend followed close by. "Meliodas is only helping me out and I, him. For who I am, I'm the Fox of Greed." I locked eyes with the Holy Knight.
"The Fox Sin of Greed? Ban?"
"No," I sighed, rolling my eyes. "I am the Fox of Greed. The literal fox of greed. I'm a seven deadly sin. Now, release my friends. And the giant lady too," I added.
"I think not." He disappeared.
Barely a second had passed, a second too slow for what came next. A slight noise, a movement of the air. My head was turning slowly, for a sudden sickeningly realisation washed over me.
He was behind me.
Pain exploded from my swollen temple, rupturing my vision into cracks of red and flashes of light. There was a ringing in my ears, the taste of blood in my mouth, then nothing but blackness.
I came to on the ground, curled in a foetal position. With heavy eyelids, head lolling from side to side, I pushed myself up with the help of something. The giant lady's foot, I noticed, when she peered down at me.
"Hey, are you alright?"
I mumbled incoherently, trying to fight past the stabbing pain ricocheting in my head. Why did I always end up getting knocked out?
"What's... what's going on?" I drawled, then spat out of a glob of blood. My eyes focused a bit more on the ground around me. "Where did Hawk and Elizabeth go?"
"Gilthunder knocked you out," the lady explained, "and is now fighting Sir Meliodas. He kicked Hawk and Elizabeth ran after him; it's what he planned all along. His business is just with us sins."
"Gilthunder?" Fitting. Controller of lightning, voice like thunder. I almost laughed out loud at that thought; guess I was out of it a bit.
My head felt too heavy to keep up so I slumped back against the foot, using it as a prop. The giant lady didn't seem to fussed now; she obviously didn't deem me a threat to her position as the Captain's main woman.
My right hand opened and closed on air. The shiny, gorgeous, simple dagger was gone. So was my chicken friend. Did he die? I hoped not; I was just coming to like that hybrid poultry.
The slide of steel upon steel had my eyes jerking round, searching. There, fighting amidst the mist and strangled trees were Meliodas and Gilthunder.
They were so fast: Meliodas dodging each and every attack made by Gilthunder in a series of flips and zigzagged steps; the lightning sword arcing through the air with deadly precise and speed. My eyes could barely keep up with the movements.
A moment later, I realised why. Visioned doubled, I quickly got on hands and knees and vomited on the ground. Retching almost made me pass out again, and I rolled to the side. Wouldn't do to fall into the vomit.
"Why aren't you helping him?" I wheezed.
"The Captain said not to interfere," she responded, eyes on the fight.
I craned my head back, just in time to see Meliodas be dealt a serious blow from Gilthunder. The ground thundered and buckled underneath me and my heart jumped into my throat in anticipation of the earth giving way and for my body to fall forever into a black abyss. The dust cleared and there, lying in crater outlining his body, was Meliodas.
"Meliodas!" I shouted, scrambling to my feet only for a wave of nausea and blackening vision to drag me back to my knees. "Damn you, lady. Why are you just standing there?! He's your friend!"
Then, across the clearing, I heard a sound I didn't think was possible. Laughter. Meliodas was laughing. Dumbfounded, I could only stare as he got to his feet.
What the hell were these people made of? Rock? Magic? Demon blood? No one normal survives an attack like that, even less have the strength or unbroken bones to get up. Yet, here he is, the Dragon Sin of Wrath, dusting himself off and praising Gilthunder.
But then...
Gilthunder was behind him.
"Watch out!" I screamed.
Blood erupted from Meliodas' shoulder, splattered the ground and Gilthunder's armour. Meliodas, like a broken doll, toppled forward, face first into the dirt.
"No!" I stretched out with a hand but the strength to move just seemed to leave me. "No."
Gilthunder rolled Meliodas over with a foot.
I just couldn't believe it. Couldn't believe my eyes that the Captain of the Seven Deadly Sins was lying dead on the ground.
"How could you?!" I roared. By sheer willpower I surged to my feet, hands balled into fists.
The giant lady's eyes widened. "Captain?" she asked fearfully.
Meliodas' eyelids flicked. I gasped, taking a few steps forward. He was alive!
"The Sins...what happened to them?" Meliodas whispered, eyes darkening. "You must have heard something right? Where... have the other ones gone?"
Was he truly dying now? No, that couldn't be. He couldn't die yet.
Gilthunder sheathed his weapon. "Very well, I'll tell you. Of the remaining five, three are still at large and unaccounted for. But the other two had been dealt with." Scorn filled his voice. "The Fox Sin of Greed is being kept under tight security at Baste Prison. The Grizzly Sin of Sloth has already been slain and is interred in the Necropolis. But you needn't worry; I'll make certain they'll join you shortly."
"Thank you," Meliodas breathed out, eyes closing. Horror filled me, my eyes could only watch as the Captain of the Seven Deadly Sins died.
A moment's pause, filled with a heavy silence.
"Awesome!"
I jumped back, tripping on the giant lady's foot. My head cracked against the ground hard and everything spun again. But that didn't matter, because what I saw didn't need a clear field of vision.
Meliodas jumped to his feet, smiling and all. Not dead.
Definitely not dead.
What the hell?! He just jumps back up like the attack was nothing. Like, literally nothing! He doesn't even seem fazed that he had been slashed by a giant electrified sword.
"Little Gil!" Meliodas said. Gilthunder only stared impassively at Meliodas, brow furrowed slightly. "Baste Prison and the Necropolis, huh? I'll go check out on or the other."
"So that was it. You wished to know your comrades whereabouts so you allowed me to strike you down, right?"
I groaned and flopped back into the dirt. "Of course, why didn't I see that coming?" I spat out. Did he have to play so many games?
"How about we finish this another time, 'kay?"
"I think not," Gilthunder stated and I heard his gauntlet scratch against the hilt of his sword.
Uh-oh.
I sat back on, watching intently. Gilthunder called the electricity and swiped at Meliodas. But Meliodas was already gone, now standing behind Gilthunder. Again, Gilthunder struck; Meliodas dodged. Again and again and again.
Until they ended, Gilthunder's sword at Meliodas neck, standing before me and the giant lady.
"This is goodbye," Gilthunder announced.
Meliodas merely raised a hand. "See ya."
For the first time in that fight, the giant lady moved. Her hand wrapped around Gilthunder's body and I watched his form rise up and up into the air.
"You heard the Captain," the lady said. "Some other time."
"Unhand me!" Gilthunder commanded, body enveloped in lightning.
"Here's a tip for you, okay? Girls get really annoyed when snivelling little runts try to shock them!" With that, she drew her arm back and threw him?!
With wide eyes, I watched Gilthunder fly through the air and disappear.
"Hey, thanks. Nice throw," he congratulate the giant lady. "Wow, that brace is ruined. Oh, hey you're awake Estra."
"No thanks to you," I grumbled. "I just lost another one of my nine lives with the stunts you've pulled."
"Aren't cats the ones with nine lives?"
"Shut it!" I roared, throwing a rock at his face.
A/N: Opinions on this chapter? Should I have a part before this from one of the other's POV explaining why Gilthunder's there, you know, like he does in the anime? (i.e. go off the episode almost directly?)
