one. six thirty two am

'Come on Fox. You can do this. Just smile, look happy.' Fox begged testing out different faces in the mirror. Every time that she thought she had her customer service smile down she imagined serving a customer and it instantly returned to a scowl.

Fox splashed her face with water and looked at her phone, 6.30am. Andrew had given her a break to prepare herself but it was time to start work again and she felt even less prepared.

Walking back to the front of the store was like walking into a warzone and instantly wanting to turn back. There was no adrenaline rush to get her through there was just fear. She took a deep breath and straightened her apron before switching with Andrew at the register.

'Remember, you've got this.' He said placing a hand on her shoulder before walking towards his office.

The next customer in line was a girl who simultaneously managed to look a few years older and younger than Fox. 'Welcome to Dash, what can I get for you?' Fox asked, trying her best to be polite.

'Just a large iced coffee, to have here please.' The woman replied with an ear to ear smile. Fox keyed in her order, thankful that it wasn't as complicated as how old the woman was. 'Name for the order is just Flo.'

Tip number three, if you know what your barista is going to ask you next, answer in advance.

'Okay then, 'Just Flo', that'll be out shortly, just keep your ear out for your name.' Fox responded with a smirk. There was something about 'Just Flo' that kept her amused, it was probably the fact that she didn't have to talk as much with her because she seemed to know the order pattern pretty well.

'Order up, Flo.'

After taking the next few customers orders there were no new people in line, so Fox jumped onto the coffee machine to help out with making the orders.

'Order up, Flo.'

Fox looked around the café to see if she could spot the woman as her order had been called out by the other staff several times already. Surely enough, Fox managed to spot her sitting in the window seat tapping away at a typewriter. No wonder she couldn't hear her order being called, she was as a good as deaf over the clacks of the keys. Fox picked up the glass and walked it over to the table.

'Order up for 'Just Flo'' she said as she placed the glass on the table in front of her.

'Oh sorry, I was distracted, my mistake, it won't happen again.' Flo smiled taking a sip of her coffee before pulling the sheet out of her typewriter. Fox couldn't help but notice a bunch of spaces in between words that didn't seem to belong.

'What's wrong with your typewriter? Other than the fact that you're using one rather than a laptop or a pen and paper like everyone else.' Fox asked pointing at the large spaces. Flo blushed as she rifled through her bag, pulling out a fancy pen.

'I got in an argument with my girlfriend yesterday and she threw it across the room. The 'f' key broke off and I couldn't find it.' She explained as she started scrawling 'f's' around the page, before turning the page to Fox. 'So until I can replace it, I'm just handwriting them.'

'You're girlfriend seems like she doesn't give an F about you.' Fox smirked tapping Flo's arm as she stifled a giggle.

Fact number three, yes I am a famous comedian, with shows coming near you at some point.

'I'm sorry she did that though, if you're still writing on it, then I guess it must be really important to you.' Fox shrugged before smiling at her again, before beginning to walk back to the counter. 'Coffee's on me.'

An hour later Flo had left the store, smiling towards Fox as she left. Was this what being nice to someone was like?

As she began clearing tables she noticed a crumpled piece of paper on the floor beneath where Flo was sitting. Naturally curious Fox picked it up and straightened it out.

'How can a tangled mess look beautiful?

Filled with twists, turns, curls, and dreams.

Is this what I've been missing?'

Fox read the short poem over again before she looked towards the sketch in the corner of the page. The girl in the sketch at red curly hair just like Fox's.

Had Flo left the page here on purpose, and was Fox meant to find it?
