Chapter 45
Out of the guild, down the hill and through the forest, an Eevee stood and waited. Behind him stood a small army, the group of Pokémon were standing silently, they shuffled nervously hopping from foot. In front of them was a long valley, high rock walls sprouted randomly disrupting the already uneven ground.
These natural obstacles meant that the valley bottle-necked in places and this would be their best chance to stall Zeraora, they had to buy time for Pixie's team. Jacob was standing on a hill-top which sloped down into the valley, thunderclouds were slowly getting closer in the distance and they had nearly reached the valley.
Sheldon's heavy footfalls approached from behind, Marv moved silently next to him, the pair stopped next to the Eevee.
"What now?" Sheldon asked.
Jacob looked at him. "We wait, we hold them here as long as possible, fight in small groups and block the passages between the cliffs so that only a few can fight at a time. We have to buy time for Pixie and the others."
Sheldon nodded. "I won't let any past me." I was shaking my head before he'd finished.
"No Sheldon, I need you here. I need you to watch, to send reinforcements, I need you to command the tide of war."
"I can't do that I'm just a sentry! You. You're the leader."
"No, I'm not, not anymore. Sheldon, I trust you, all these Pokémon, you're their leader now."
"But, what are you going to do?"
"I'm going after Zeraora, he's mine."
Sheldon nodded grimly, and Jacob turned to the Marshadow who stood his by side.
"Marv, you said that some legendaries sided with Zeraora?"
Marv nodded.
"Legendary Pokémon are powerful, we're going to need some help."
Marv smiled. "I'll see what I can do." He sunk into the shadows and disappeared leaving Jacob and Sheldon to stare at the approaching storm.
"Jacob, it's been my honour and privilege to fight alongside you. I believe in you and I would fight and die with you. Though I'd rather not, you know, the 'dying' part, I meant it, but I'd rather not die."
Jacob chuckled at the Bastiodon.
"Thanks Sheldon. You know behind are us are your troops, they're scared Sheldon, they need a leader, you're that leader now. Go give 'em a pep talk."
Sheldon turned and faced his soldiers, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath, everyone looked at him and was silent. Then he opened his eyes and began.
"I'm scared... I am, I'm terrified but not because of the enemy we face. No, I'm terrified of the future he wants to create. That future is bleak, its kill or be killed. There's no laughter, no joy, no happiness. It's grey and lifeless. That is a future I don't want. It's a future you don't want, what we want is a real future. A bright one. That future is waiting for us just beyond those storm-clouds, that future is on the horizon, and I'm gonna fight for it. We are going to fight for it. And at the end of the day, we will reach it!"
A loud cheer went up from the crowd. Jacob patted Sheldon on the shoulder.
"That there's a good speech."
A loud thunderclap echoed throughout the valley, every living creature turned towards the sound. A yellow feline stood tall, lightning bolts crashed down around him blasting the earth. Zeraora.
Jacob loosened his shoulders and cracked his neck.
"Well, storm's here."
