It was the third day in our new apartment as well in a new city.
Bristol seemed to be a pleasant - and confusing - place. I knew London was difficult to adjust from the rolling countryside hills of Essex. I was always find myself stuck in East Central London majority of getting to work, and now I'm having the difficult of just going to the nearest corner shop just to buy eggs, bread and milk - all common cupboard essentials.
"George and his lack of instructions," I shook my head, trying to get my phone to actually direct me.
Mocking my friend's voice out loud, I said: "'Oh all you have to do is take a couple of blocks down the road, take a right and there'll be a corner shop!' But no...George Kingston's definition of a couple of blocks is actually just round the corner of the flat."
I did manage to find myself in the aisle of my nearby corner shop after exasperating in relief and annoyance. The day wasn't exactly the most decent; it had been raining for the rest of the day - meaning a drenched coat and shoes.
Once I grabbed the supplies, payed for them and then walked back: I got to meet someone by accident. And by accident: I meant bumping into my flat neighbor walking back. It was simple gesture. We first apologized before exclaiming that we both lived on the same floor in the same flat.
"My name's Katie." She shook hands with mine, holding a very simple smile that I felt radiating off her face. By the looks and personality once we were talking, I soon to begin to like her.
I did what most people do, compliment them. "It must take a lot of dedication to maintain beautiful hair." My words were restricted and slightly regretful; my compliments were too detailed and slightly taken back by her. I confess I wasn't very good at first social meetings.
"Aw thank you," Katie blushed much like the colour of her hair. "Hey, it's kind of dreary today. Why don't you come round to mine and have some tea?" I decided to forget about how I even met Katie, leaving the bag of groceries inside my flat and then walking back out to hers.
I softly spoke:"He will be good for you for a long time."
I froze at what I blurted out - punching myself inside my head for being too ignorant of my words and deducing the place. "I mean um...do you live with someone?"
"Um..." Well...this was awkward."Yeah, Chris: but he's at work even though it's Saturday." Katie shuffles a bit on the sofa. She offered my tea afterward, and I carefully sipped mine as we spoke about each other.
Katie then started to question more about myself. "So what do you do? I mean as a job..."
"Well," I tried to reach my eyes to hers, but it seemed to fail once I began to observing more of the place itself. It was a cure I drew to my own faults; I was stupid to allow myself to try but... "You're a gamer?" I raised an eyebrow.
There was a growing grin alongside an embarrassing blush on her cheeks. Katie said with a distinctive accent (Scottish by the sounds of it), " Yeah, are you?"
"Part time YouTuber," I faintly smiled. "All of my friends are."
"Want to try on Zelda for a bit?" Katie suggested. "I've been trying so hard to pass one of them, but I need someone to back me up."
I replied, "What about your boyfriend?"
"Busy playing games for a job much like you," Katie huffed. "So...are you up for some Zelda?"
The temptation was not hard to deny.

"How did you do that?!" Katie exclaimed with a mixture of surprise and laughter whilst I smashed the buttons on the controller. I felt kind of bad for going a bit over-dramatic at almost breaking her property, so I placed it down after noticing it had been almost two hours we've been playing.
I said, "That took longer than expected, sorry."
"Oh no, it's fine." Katie chuckled. "I'm more happy that you actually got passed or else I'll be waiting for Chris just to get my character pass the level."
I replied with a smile and said, "My best friend would never help me get pass levels...no wonder why I've been stuck in the same level for WoW..." I grumbled at the end, with Katie heading up from the sofa with a laugh.
We continued the particular subject, drinking mugs of tea whilst we were both curled up on the sofa - trying to play some multiplayer indie game she had put on. I was a little annoyed at myself for being behind what was latest on various games.
Ever since the move, I had to return to my proper work (which I was relocated)and take extra hours. George, Pippa, Lola and Jordan were beginning to worry if I was overworking whilst recording YouTube. I just assured them that I was fine, since I was hardly getting any editing done at the fullest. Not when my computer setup wasn't completed.
After another hour, I heard the door open with the clinking sound of keys after being clattered on a table from the corridor. Katie said, "That might be Chris...and I think he brought someone."
When the man called Chris entered, I jumped in surprise in my mind: finally knowing who it was. Though from the outside, I raised an eyebrow when I saw my best friend: George locked eyes with me.
"Hey," Chris Trott waved. "Guess who lives next door to us, the new guy from the office...oh wait: hello."
I kept my lips firmed, allowing Katie to introduce me. "Oh yeah, this is [Y/N]. George and her are our new neighbors, and I thought of inviting her round because you two ditched us for work."
Chris Trott eyed you and George before speaking, "Don't you have a..."
"Yes, guilty." I smiled wryly. "It's why I recognized you; I saw you with the rest of Hat Films from the first Minecon."
George raised an eyebrow - a usual thing he did - and asked back: "You still remember that? I can't even remember what I had for breakfast this morning."
Katie and chuckled, whilst Chris pretended to pat George in the shoulder for comfort as my best friend faked cried. After the long greeting, the four of somehow bunked off into the sofas and armchairs and began playing more Smash Bros. on the Wii U. George literally ran from our flat just to get extra remotes.
When it seemed that it was nine at night, George and I retired back to our flat after helping cleaning the mess with Katie.
Before I left, I said to her: "Thank you Katie, for a good day."
She smiled and replied, "We should do it again, if you want of course. And maybe...you and George can go on a double game date with us." Katie winked but I widened my eyes.
Luckily George was already at our flat whilst I stood outside Katie and Chris'. "Oh no, we're not together!" I sheepishly said. "We're just friends....scouts honour."
"I'm just joking," Katie laughed, "George's been eyeing my boyfriend for majority of the night, even though Trott's such a naive for seeing it."
I spoke, "You seem quite okay with it."
Katie shrugged, "You cannot help who you like, it's a hard thing to understand yourself."
Wrapping my arms around myself, I told her that I wished that George wouldn't have to be lonely forever. She just comforted me by answering: "Don't worry about him, [Y/N]. Sometimes you'll have to take care of yourself first than others."
I nodded. Though before I left, I faintly smiled - giving her a hug in the process. "Thank you," I whispered before leaving and entering the cold flat I would call as home for who knows how long.
But for now, I was glad I had a friend to fill the gap of lonely days.
And maybe I should really try her advice.
