❛ This is wrong ❜
The only sound heard in the Avengers facility at eleven in the morning was the tapping of fingers on a keyboard. The person sitting before it sighed and allowed her head to fall back where she sighed loudly and briefly closed her eyes. "Shouldn't you be in school?" Sam's voice wondered as he entered the room with a smoothie straw in his mouth. Andy grinned and lifted her head back up before sliding off her seat, "It's Christmas break. I've got a week left."
Sam hummed and slurped his smoothie obnoxiously loud, "Like the presents you got? I personally love my gift for you."
Andy chuckled, "Yes, your pop tart blanket was great. But honestly, I would have been satisfied with a smile, Sam. It just nice to have had a holiday to celebrate."
"I figured as much."
Andy lifted her arms out and cracked her knuckles before opening the fridge. She grabbed a water bottle before someone reached out and snatched it from her hands. She whipped around in defense and rolled her eyes when she saw Tony Stark standing before her. "What are you doing here?"
"Pepper is coming over tonight. I'm cleaning up."
Andy scoffed and grabbed another water from the fridge since Tomy had so rudely taken her first one. "Tony Stark does not clean. He has people for that," she stated. "She's right," Sam chimed in from the counter where he was now reviewing all Andy's work. Tony lifted his hand and held it out in Sam's direction as a method of silence and kissed Andy's forehead before beginning to walk away, "We found something, if you're interested."
Andy perked up and glanced at Sam who shrugged his shoulders. Andy noticed him confused as he skimmed over her mission research and she walked over and slammed her laptop shut before reaching out to grab Sam's ear. The Avenger yelled out and hopped on one leg as he was dragged out of the chair and finally Andy let go and he glared at her. The two walked down the hall before Sam reached out to lunge at her and she laughed before jumping into a sprint down the hall with Sam not far behind.
They passed Tony who had to jump out of the way to avoid the two Avengers acting like children and when they reached the room at the very end of the hall they stumbled in and saw themselves facing the rest of the Avengers minus Rhodes and Vision.
The atmosphere in the room was very serious and as soon as Andy saw Nat's concerned face her own fell and she stood at the door. Sam glanced at the girl who now had a very fearful look and he placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
Tony stepped in after her and sighed before shutting the door and turning the lights off. The room fell dark and Andy turned to see the outline of Tony. "Tony, what's going on?"
No one responded to the young girl and she turned on her heel and shook her head, "Tony!"
"We found something about your parents," he simply responded before passing her and joining the Avengers on the other side of the room, leaving only Sam and Andy on the opposite side. Andy's face lit up, "You found out how they died? And who did this? Who was it? I can - "
"We didn't find that out," Steve answered, feeling only guilt as he saw Andy's face fall again. He only wanted the best for the girl he thought of as a sister, and now he was delivering more bad news instead of good news. "Then what did you find?" she softly asked, fear lacing her voice. "We found a flashdrive in this lab," Nat answered, going to turn on the projector in the middle of the room. "This is Tony's lab," Andy snapped.
"It's a list of all S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, but we can't access it. You have a password?"
Andy pursed her lips and patted Sam's hand on her shoulder before walking over to Nat where she was blocked from S.H.I.E.L.D. access by a screen. "Tony couldn't have done this?" she asked pointedly while Tony laughed dryly before narrowing his eyes at the teenager. "It's tough."
Andy gave him a sideglance before hitting dozens of keys and bypassing several windows. Once she was through, Nat lightly shoved Andy out of the way and began doing her own research while the girl was forced to standby. "I have a contact in S.H.I.E.L.D. who gave me some information that can be proven on this flashdrive. I wanted to be sure."
Andy was confused until the screen across the room lit up with the projector coming to life and she stared in shock at what was on the screen. "That's a lie," she muttered.
Her hands began to shake, her heart began to race, her breaths became uneven. "It's not," Steve assured her.
"It is!" she shouted back with a tear strolling down her face. "They weren't S.H.I.E.L.D.! They had normal jobs!"
"They were agents, Melly," Tony said once more. "They weren't!" Andy yelled with more tears leaking down her cheeks. "They wouldn't do that to me!"
"They did it to protect you," Wanda spoke to try to comfort the girl. "Lis, they helped on a hundred missions. They were S.H.I.E.L.D. technologists, and damn good ones," Nat continued.
Andy's head snapped in the direction of Natasha and lifted her fingers angrily, "You have no right to call me that," she threatened angrily. "Slip of the tongue, Mel - "
"You had no right to do this! None of it! Don't you understand? They wouldn't leave me! This is wrong!"
"They were heroes, Mel. Isn't is a good thing that they were S.H.I.E.L.D.?" Sam asked gently while taking a step closer to the girl. "No," she whispered while wiping tears from her eyes. "Why, Melly?"
"If they were S.H.I.E.L.D. then they lied to me more than I thought. And my parents' deaths are in their hands," she cried out. The girl gave up trying to wipe her tears and instead looked at Nat, "This is wrong," she said quietly. "All of you are wrong."
With that final note, the girl walked away in a hurry while allowing herself to sob once she was out of sight from the rest of the Avengers. She knew Sam would be coming after her soon since he seemed to be the only one who seemed to side with her. But Andy didn't care to wait for the veteran's footsteps to follow her. Instead, she ran up the stairs and slammed her door behind her then falling to her knees and crawling to the edge of her bed.
She could hardly breathe as she grabbed a picture frame from her nightstand of her and her parents and held it to her chest while sobbing.
Her parents weren't S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
They couldn't be.
