chapter one
Hey there, Delilah
DELILAH HUFFED AS SHE EXITED THE AUTO SHOP on an extremely hot day towards the end of the summer. The expenses to fix her car would blow her whole savings and then some and she was stuck in some boring town in the middle of Virginia. Her luck lately could honestly not get any worse.
"Go have an adventure, I said. You'll have some fun, I said. I am never trusting myself again." The girl mumbled underneath her breath, her lips forming a slight pout as she crossed her arms.
She was having a bit of a tantrum.
The Asan girl was incredibly done with this day. Bree and Adam had called her about a million times so, she finally just got tired of it and threw her phone out of the window. Bad idea? Yes but, is it very Delilah of her? Also yes.
She made her way into what seemed like the only place people ever go in this town, The Mystic Grill. As she entered, a bell was going off and people were cheering to some guy named uncle Steve. The whole restaurant took a shot, or sip of their drink, and then the dedications kept rolling.
"Weird." Delilah mumbled as she took a seat at a nearby table and watched as practically the whole town got wasted beyond belief.
As the minutes turned into over an hour, the Alpha became bored out of her mind without her car, her phone, or any actual friends so, she decided to head to the bar. Sure, she was only nineteen but maybe, if she was lucky someone would buy her a drink? She didn't have a plan really, the girl had never tried to drink at a bar.
A man walked up and sat himself down in the seat closest to her, a little too close to her.
"Do I know you? I just went through some memory loss thing and can't remember... anyone." he sent her a sly smile as she turned to face him, her cheeks already heating up to a bright red when she took in his appearance.
"I don't think we've met, i'm Delilah."she extended her hand, the guy next to her taking it into his after a few moments.
"Well, hey there, Delilah." the man shook her hand and the girl found herself oddly drawn to him, his aura had just felt... odd. Like he wasn't just some guy in a bar. "I'm Stefan."
"Nice to meet you, Stefan." the two of them briefly stared into each other eyes before the Asan girl snapped out of it, her nerves getting the better of her. "I have to go to the bathroom."
Delilah was a fairly awkward girl and instead of staying and facing the awkwardness that goes along with meeting new people, she decided it was a good idea to just pretend she needed to pee. If he was still there when she got back, she'd start conversation. If not, it wasn't meant to be.
Simple enough, right?
After spending a few minutes fixing her hair, she looked up into the mirror and realized she wasn't alone. She gasped lightly upon seeing the man behind her, dark veins circling his under eyes. There was no words to describe her fear, she was simply mortified, and had never seen anything like it.
"Don't scream. Don't Move." Stefan said, looking into the girls eyes. "I don't want to hurt you. You seem really nice and it's not like I wanna rip your head off, but I keep being told if I have one taste, I won't be able to stop."
The man took her face into his hands and tilted it to the side as he stared at her neck.
"Get off of me." Delilah pushed him backwards, the vampire stumbling back a few feet onto the floor. "I don't know what kinda sick stuff you're into, dude but, I don't want to be apart of it."
Another man ran into the room and looked back and forth between the Asan girl and Stefan. There was a mix of shock and fear in his eyes meaning he probably knew exactly what would have happened if he didn't come on. He knew that in that bathroom, the wolf could have died.
"Did he.." the older man looked at Stefan who was still sitting on the floor, clearly somewhat ashamed of himself.
"Try to bite me? Yes. Could you please tell me why?" Delilah crossed her arms and furrowed her brows as she waited for an answer, because there was no way she could fathom an actual reason for something like this.
Her and Stefan were not meant to be.
"You didn't compel her!?" The man asked what looked to be his younger brother, his hands going up into the air, completely frustrated.
"It didn't work." the Salvatore boy shrugged his shoulders lightly as the Asan girl began to back up against the wall.
"What are you?" The older Salvatore asked, furrowing his brows slightly.
"What are you?" Delilah stood up straighter and cleared her throat, not wanting to show these men any fear.
She was an alpha, and she was going to have to act like one.
"I asked you first." Damon stepped closer, his eyes almost challenging the girl before him.
"Well, I asked you second so... HA!" The Asan girl pointed at him, making the older man roll his eyes slightly at her childish behavior.
"Actually..." Damon started to sniff the air, an unimpressed look upon finding out the answer to his question. "I know exactly what you are."
"All I know is that I should be going to get my car now so... bye!" Delilah quickly grabbed her purse and tried her best to make it to the exit but, she was stopped by Damon.
"Not so fast, wolfie. You're not going anywhere." he smiled at her as Stefan stood up to his feet, the girls heart sinking into her chest.
"How did you know?" the Asan girls eyes widened slightly as she looked the Salvatore man up and down, her heart racing.
"I smelled you." He replied.
Rude.
DELILAH ASAN WAS NOW A PRISONER. Figures the first time she had ever gone out on her own she got kidnapped by some blood sucking weirdos. She should have known better than to just stop in some rinky dink town she had never even heard of.
"Can't you just let me go? It's not like i'm going to tell someone about his blood fetish. Who would believe me!?" Delilah questioned as she threw her hands in the air.
"It's not a blood fetish, wolfie. He's a vampire."Damon rolled his eyes, the girl letting her mouth drop open.
"Vampires don't exist." The Asan girl shook her head. In her childhood, they were raised to believe that other supernatural beings weren't real which, made Delilah feel incredibly alone, like there was nobody else to carry the same burden, the same type of secret.
"It's kinda hard to believe but, it's true." The girl named Elena assured her, smiling slightly as they continued their walk.
"Our hostage is extremely annoying, brother." The older Salvatore said to the younger one, his voice dry and tone indicating he was clearly annoyed.
"I don't know, she's the most normal person i've met today." Stefan shrugged his shoulders, glancing back toward the girl momentarily before turning away again.
"Okay, one. I'm right here and, two. Why are we in a cemetery?" Delilah asked, the girl feeling like she was about to be murdered at any moment.
"Memories." Damon took a sip of his beer as a bell went off in the cemetery, the wolf furrowing her brows.
Who the hell has memories in a cemetery?
"What kind of name is Honoria Fell?" Stefan asked as they passed her tombstone, all of them taking the time to briefly look it over.
"A god awful name." Delilah mumbled but, of course, the younger Salvatore heard and started to chuckle.
"Shh... you're kinda the one that killed her." Damon whispered, making the wolf practically choke on her own saliva.
"Oh, that's fun. I'm going to die soon." the Asan girl's eyes widened as she looked back at the grave one more time, the girl now tripping over her own feet.
They all entered a tomb and by the looks of it, Delilah assumed they had been in there about a million times. The Asan girl and Elena stood by the door while Damon explained some family history to Stefan and tried to jog his memory. If he was a vampire, why was memory loss a factor?
"I gotta go see a man about a witch." Damon drank the rest of his beer quickly, letting out a sigh before he left the tomb abruptly.
What was the point of even going to the tomb?
"Do you mind watching him? I really have somewhere to be too." Elena practically begged, her eyes pointing toward the vampire who literally tried to eat her alive.
"Will you go all attacky on me?" Delilah looked Stefan up and down, slightly narrowing her eyes.
Out of all the scenarios she had imagined for a kidnapping, babysitting one of the kidnappers had never even crossed her mind.
"I'll try my hardest." The Salvatore shrugged his shoulders as he kept observing the room around him, carefully and quietly.
"Fine." the Asan girl turned around to agree with Elena but, she had already left them. The girl mentally cursed to herself, knowing that this was probably some elaborate scheme to let Dracula kill her in secret, she figured she was screwed by this point.
The silence between them lasted a few minutes before Stefan spoke up, turning his attention to the girl.
"Sorry for trying to rip your head off earlier." The Salvatore said nonchalantly, like this was some type of everyday occurrence.
"Yeah... no problem? I guess.. it's just kinda not normal." the girl laughed as she played with her finger nails, trying to remember the quote keep your enemies close, it was something like that but she knew it was close enough and that there was a reason for it.
"I'm still trying to remember how to keep in control but, every time I walk past someone I hear their pulse." Stefan closed his eyes, his fists clenching slightly as the girl standing beside him furrowed her brows.
"So, we'll talk about something that has nothing to do with you losing your memory, or trying to murder me. How does that sound?" Delilah took a seat on the bench in the middle of the tomb, a light smile on her face.
"Kind of nice actually." The Salvatore sat next to her. "How did you end up in Mystic Falls?"
"Long story." she shrugged and stared at the ground, not wanting to have to burden a stranger with her stupid drama. He was a vampire, blood sucking stranger but, a stranger nonetheless.
"I've got the time." Stefan bumped her shoulder with his and they both started to laugh slightly, the remaining tension in the air disappearing.
"Okay well, I just graduated high school a few months ago and i'm the only child..." she cleared her throat. "So my whole life I was trained to be the Alpha or the queen of the pack or whatever and... it was all too much for me. Everybody wanted me to be perfect, know what to do all the time, and i'm far from perfect."
"Something tells me that's not the only reason you left." he handed the girl his beer and she took a sip, mentally wincing at the disgusting taste.
"I was supposed to get married to join the two packs in town... so, I was with this guy basically my whole life and I go into my room during a party and... he's cheating on me.. with my best friend like right on my bed." a tear fell down her cheek, the girl not able to hold in her emotions anymore. She hadn't talked to anyone about all this, and she needed to.
"You don't deserve that." Stefan put his arm around her and pulled her into a hug, the girl finding it odd but also appreciating the gesture, she found it peaceful in his arms.
"Maybe I do for not wanting to be alpha." Delilah shrugged her shoulders again and leaned on his chest. "Something I don't get is...how did you not think the smell of my blood is gross? Damon and Elena did."
She was masterful at changing the subject.
"I don't really know it... smelled good?" Stefan questioned his own answer because it did sound sort of odd, the man furrowing his brows slightly.
"Is that a vampire compliment?" The Asan girl looked up towards him waiting for an answer, slightly amused by their current conversation.
... but also wondering how the hell she ended up in a situation like this.
"Why would it be a vampire compliment? Do you have werewolf compliments?" Stefan asked jokingly, a chuckle escaping his lips.
"Fair point, you win." the Asan girl started to laugh to the point of a snort, she needed to laugh too, she hadn't done that lately either.
"Did you just-" The Salvatore stopped himself from finishing his sentence, not wanting to make fun of the girl.
"Yeah, i'm officially embarrassed." Delilah started to blush and sat upright, the girl tucking a few strands of hair behind her ear.
"I can take him off your hands now." Elena said as she walked back into the tomb, the wolf letting out a slight. "I have to bring him somewhere."
"So, I can go?" Delilah asked, scrambling quickly up to her feet.
"Damon isn't here so you might as well get out of here when you can." Elena instructed, her words almost seeming like a joke. "He can be a bit of a jerk, this will knock him down a peg or two."
"Right." The Asan girl replied plainly, lightly nodding her head before she gave Stefan the awkwardest side hug in the world. "Thanks for letting me go."
Without another word, she scurried off, not wanting to face Damon Salvatore again.
THE ASAN GIRL WAS HALF DRUNK BY NOW, accepting drinks from random strangers as she waited for her car to be finished. She wanted to get the hell out of this place but, the girl realized that she couldn't yet and started to drink. It wasn't exactly the best plan but, it was a plan.
Delilah! Stefan is on the loose." Elena ran up to her out of breath, the girl holding onto her chest.
"On the loose? What are you talking about?" The Asan girl furrowed her brows, he was a vampire but, not exactly an animal.
Like she was.
"I told him about Damon and I and he freaked out and he said he was hungry and I don't know what to do..!" the girl practically shouted, the Asan girl putting her hands on the brunettes shoulders to quiet her down.
"You and Damon?" Delilah was confused about the whole dynamic with their trio and she was so not caught up with their little melodrama.
"It doesn't matter. Can you help me, please?" the Gilbert girl begged for the second time today, dragging the wolf into something she didn't want to be in yet again.
"Yeah, not like I have anything better to do." She shrugged her shoulders and followed Elena through the crowd of people.
The whole cemetery was bustling with people, all of which would make a late night snack enjoyable for a vampire. Delilah pinched the bridge of her nose as she looked through the crowds. Stressed couldn't even begin to describe the situation, she was scared.
Scared that one of these people would die.
After a few minutes of searching, Damon called and informed the girls that Stefan was at his house. The two of them drove over because for some reason, everyone in the group trusted Delilah. It was all kind of off to her, and so was their whole situation, really.
"Stefan, there you are. We've been looking all over for you." Elena said as they walked in, letting out a sigh of relief.
"What are you doing there, brother?" Damon and the girls watched as Stefan threw books into the fire.
"Well, you know, tying up a few loose ends." he continued to throw pages into the fireplace. "Hey, Delilah."
"Hey, Stefan.." she waved even though he wasn't really looking at any of them, the tension in the air back but, now between the Salvatores and Elena.
She felt like this was not a place she should be.
"Are you sure you want to do that?" Damon asked, stepping forward slightly to stop him from throwing more things into the fire.
"Well, I don't know what I want. I don't want to be the person in those journals anymore. I don't want to live in this house. I don't want my brother's advice. I don't want to hear how I supported you, Elena and I definitely don't want to finish this conversation."Stefan started to walk away, everyone turning towards his direction as he did.
"Stefan, wait." Elena let out a sigh once again, running a hand through her hair.
"Don't worry, I won't go on a ripper binge." he threw his arm around Delilah's shoulder, making her furrow her brows in confusion. "Delilah is coming with me and I actually trust her, she hasn't lied to me."
"I'm going with you?" she raised asked awkwardly, not knowing how to react in a situation like this.
"Yeah." Stefan nodded his head lightly, the girl realizing that she needed to keep him from tearing a whole bunch of innocents to shreds.
"I guess I am..." The Asan girl looked awkwardly at Damon and Elena who were at a loss for words.
One word to describe this whole day? Awkward. The two of them walked out of the Salvatore house and Delilah could only think about what thing. What in the hell kind of mess did those fortune cookies get her into?
She wouldn't know the answer to that for a long time.
