Chapter 4 Gringotts
I woke up to be presented with the blinding sun in my eyes.
I checked my almost broken clock.
Five o'clock it beeped.
I shut it off and got out of bed.
I smoothed my front shirt, and for the first time in my life, put on a smile.
I grabbed my tattered apron and ran down stairs. I began breakfast.
I made two omelets with extra cheese.
I also put fruit beside, and hash browns also.
With for after, a pile of blueberry scones cooked to perfection.
When I finished, it was eight o'clock.
My mother and father came down, dressed in their work clothes.
The house was still clean, meaning father didn't go out for midnight drinking.
Thank the lord!!!
They sat down at the table, and I scurried out of the kitchen and set the two plates in front of them.
They each gave a grunt and ate the food quietly.
I began to clean the kitchen.
I finished everything at ten o'clock, and that's when my mother and father were leaving to go to work.
They left the house and I knew I would be well gone before they came home.
I will respect the Weasleys.
I wouldn't mind being their maid. I hope they won't hurt me too badly.
Anywhere is better than here.
I was so anxious, frightened, and excited, that I couldn't help but have mixed emotions. That's when my hair changed again. This time, it turned into a bright and dark blonde, with a piece of orange and red.(on top☝️)
It was pretty, thank you mixed feelings!
I was in my room now checking that I had everything I would need.
It was now 11:30 am. He would be here any minute.
I had the tickets in my small dirty, worn out purse.
Whatever Quiditch is, it sounds like fun!!!!!
Maybe I'll try playing it.
It said that cats and owls were allowed at this school, but the problem is, I don't think I have any money to buy anything.
That really depressed me.
I guess I'll figure something out.
I then brought my trunk down to the steps, now waiting.
Thirty minutes past by like watching a snail race.
I looked around the house.
It was spotless.
'Oh yeah! You cleaned the house this morning to keep you busy! Idiot!'
I sighed and put my head on my hands.
I looked down at my shoes, thinking they are the most interesting thing in the world.
Thanks when I heard a huge crashing knock on the door.
I slowly walked towards the door and opened it.
My jaw dropped at what I saw. Right in front of me was a giant.
"'Hello there!" He boomed.
He took out his hand for me to shake.
I took it and shook it.
"Rubeus Hagrid!" He said more softly.
"You mus' be Cathryn! Well we must be off!"
I only nodded. I grabbed my notebook, which I communicated to people to, and I grabbed my trunk and suitcase.
I followed him out of the door.
He walked towards a huge motorcycle with a side car.
I hesitantly walk over to the side car and slide myself inside.
'Let's think about this for a moment.
Big buff man comes to your door.
You follow him onto the street.
Says magic exists, and you get into his vehicle.
Sounds legit.'
He gets on the motor cycle and starts it.
He zooms down the street.
The motor cycle then lifted up into the air and started to fly.
It was a thirty minute quiet drive.
After those thirty minutes, we landed in front of a dirty looking bar.
We stepped in and I found it actually quite nice, gloomy, but nice.
Hagrid talked to a bartender, but I zoned out, all I heard was that his name was Tom.
"Cathryn Black? The Cathryn Black!? Why I've heard stories of you! Your the girl who lived. Your as famous as Harry Potter!"
I only raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"Don't you know the story?!" Asked a man in emerald green robes.
I shook my head.
"Oh, well, you'll know soon enough!" The man then just walked away.
I only shrugged and followed Hagrid to the back of the store, where there was a door that led to a brick wall.
He taped three bricks in a certain order, and at that time, a big opening arch way appeared in front of us to show us a world I would be yet to discover.
"Welcome to Diagon Alley!!!!!!!" Said Hagrid happily.
I looked at everything. There was a sweet shop, ice cream parlor, a book store, robe shop, pet store, potion ingredient shop, quiditch shop, which was displaying a broom. I very nice looking broom I might add.
Everything just looked marvelous.
I poked Hagrid and he looked at me.
I pointed to the robe store and he nodded, then he gave me a confused look.
"Why didn't ya jus' say so?" He asked.
I quickly scribbled in my notebook and handed it to him.
'I stopped talking when I was five actually, but I don't remember how to speak. I was abused a lot harshly and my parents would hurt me and beat me with belts, empty beer bottles, and knives. They hated my voice, and they would hurt me more if I talked. I still have the red lines on my back from just two days ago. So, I decided to stop speaking at all.'
When Hagrid finished reading the letter, he frowned at it. He then looked at me with sympathy in his eyes.
"I'll get ya star' talkin again! Just ya wait!!!!!!!!"
I gave him a soft smile and he returned it.
"We have to go to. Gringotts first. It's the Wizarding bank. Safest place in the world, besides Hogwarts of course!"
I tried so hard to say a word. Just one word! Come on!
"C-Cool." I said softly, but Hagrid heard it perfectly fine.
He turned his head to me and looked at me shocked.
I gave him a small smile and we walked on.
We then we're in front of a very big building that was polished with white marble.
It looked so gorgeous.
When we walked in, I looked around and my eyes widened.
The creatures at the desks looked strange.
They were small, and they had pointy teeth. Their skin was pale, and their fingers were long and thin.
I was more curious than terrified.
I raised my eyebrows and Hagrid noticed.
"Goblins, not the most nicest of creatures, let's jus' say, we wanna stay on their good side."
I nodded and smiled.
We walked up to the front and there was an old looking goblin with big ears and a big nose wearing reading glasses. He looked up from his papers and gave a big mixture of a mmmmm, and grunt.
I gave him a smile and he just stared at me, then at Hagrid, then again at his papers.
"Name" he said in a deep grunting voice.
"Cathryn Black" Hagrid said in a clear voice.
The goblin just stared at him.
He leans in to look at me better.
"And does Ms. Black have her key?"
"Oh, have it here somewhere!" Hagrid started looking through numerous pockets.
"Ah, here's the little sucker!" Hagrid said laying down a rusty looking key in front of the goblin.
The goblin took the key and grunted. He looked up at us and said in a deep voice,
"Very well."
"GRIPHOOK!!!!" Said the goblin a little louder.A goblin came to his side exactly eight seconds later.
"Take Sir Hagrid and Ms. Black to her vault."
Griphook nodded and told us to follow him down a hall.
We kept walking until we came to a tunnel with a railroad track. Grip hook optioned us to follow him inside.
Let's just say, if this is what a roller coaster feels like, I'm not getting on one anytime soon. Grip hook then stopped the mine cart and handed me a paper bag.
"You not the first one." He said looking at my face. I nodded and took the bag.
We came in front of a vault.
"Vault 688!" He said loudly.
"Key please." He said stretching out his hand. Hagrid handed him the key and Griphook took it. He put it in the key hole and it clicked.
Griphook grabbed the handle and pulled it open.
I was shocked at what I saw. There were mountains of gold coins everywhere and also priceless objects like golden goblets, diamond rings, jeweled silver bracelets, and golden polished armour. It was mesmerizing.
"Surely you knew you were the richest witch in the world. This is just yours vault. You should see you moms and dads!" Said Griphook.
"I-I d-didn't kn-know!" I said stuttering and Hagrid flashed me a smile and I gave a soft smile back.
"Here, this will hold your money." Said Griphook handing me a leather pouch.
I looked at Hagrid for help, and he explained the money values.
"There are 29 knuts in a sickle and 17 sickles in a Galleon, meaning there are 493 knuts in a Galleon."
I nodded my head and looked around the vault. I started looking around the vault, seeing everything, until I came around a small wooden box. The box was pretty. It had flower designs graved into the wood.
I brushed my hand over the top of the box and it strangely clicked. I opened it slowly, and inside was a jeweled necklace of a heart. It glowed electric blue when I touched the jewel. It was covered around a metal protector with also the shape of a heart that had swirl designs on it.
I also found a note under it.
'Dear kitty Cat, if you are reading this, then I have past on, I was luckily able to write a will before my time of death, so I gave everything to you. This necklace is powerful. It is the necklace of Godric Gryffindors proposal to his wife. He wanted his wife to love him forever. She died though when giving birth to a son. Godric never loved again, and he knew his baby would be in harm, so his last name of his baby was changed. It has been so long that no body knows what the name was though. This necklace is the waking of Godric. He put all his power into this necklace before his death, so the one wearing it is the most powerful witch in the world. Yes, you are the long lost and last heir of Gryffindor! My vault is vault 947 Gringotts. I give my love and riches to you. I wish you the best and I hope you have a happy life.
~mom
I just stared at the piece of paper wide eyed. I put the letter in my pocket and decided to ask Hagrid about it later.
I couldn't take all of this pressure. My hand shakes when I picked up the locket. I put it on a let it bump into my chest. I hid it under my shirt so I wouldn't draw attention.
I grabbed some money and walked out with twenty galleons, thirteen sickles, and twenty-seven knuts. I walked out with Hagrid to the mine cart, while Griphook stayed behind and closed the fault door.
I was SOOO not looking forward to getting back into the mine cart.
I lingered for a minute and sighed. I walked into the cart, scurrying to the corner of the death sentence move. I so did not want to fall. It was about two miles down!
Hold on, let's see for sure.
I took out a Knut and was about to drop it, when Hagrid just stared at me.
"I'm measuring it to see how low the ground is.
"Approximately three miles downward" answered Griphook.
"Thankyou." I said with a small smile.
He grunted and we road out of the tunnel, went through the hall, and out of the marble polished entrance arch way.
Diagon Alley here I come!!!!!
