Chapter 4

"You got to be kidding me," Jaekyung deadpans as he stands beside Haru, who's looking just as dishearted. Haru has a note in his hand where the address of his father's house should be, but it doesn't take long for them to realize that's not the case.

"A bank..."

"How can we be so fucking stupid? Obviously, he doesn't send that shit from home," Jaekyung continues as he slaps a hand against his forehead to underline just how idiotic this is. Of course, most of the money is transferred online and therefore, it's not a surprise it all happens through an online bank.

They are currently standing in front of one of Busan's biggest national banks, watching the many business workers walking around in their fancy suits with their briefcases and nicely combed hair. Compared to that, Haru and Jaekyung indeed look like two troublemakers, who believe the laws won't hurt them while they are still under 18 and therefore go out to cause trouble.

"Ugh, whatever. We can go ask them," Haru says while rolling his eyes and starts walking up the many stairs towards the entrance. The guard standing by the door looks him up and down and immediately seems suspicious of his appearance.

"I have never entered a bank without my mom," Jaekyung whines while looking from side to side as if they are doing something illegal. But more than anything, he doesn't want to be left alone on the street so he quickly follows along, "In what world do you think they're just going to give you someone's address? You really do sound like a stalker!"

"Probably. But I'm not leaving this place empty-handed," Haru says with a determined tone. They spend the entire morning navigating the huge city because they are clearly terrible at finding the right way. So to see that it was just a bank is honestly frustrating.

But expected... they should have thought that out a little better.

Haru makes his way to the front disk, where a woman is sitting while tapping away on her computer. The two young boys catch her attention and she looks up at them with a confused glance.

"Can I help you?" she asks.

"Yes, please," Haru begins and smiles gently, trying to ignore Jaekyung who's basically hiding behind him at this point, "I'm looking for my father."

"Your father?" the woman lets her glasses slide down her nose as she looks at him, "I'm sorry kid, but this is not the police. This is a bank, we don't find people."

"I'm aware," Haru says and holds himself back from rolling his eyes, "but I have his name and I know he regularly sends money from this bank. I just need some information about him..."

"Even if he is a customer here, I can't give out any private information," the woman says. It's just as expected, but Haru is honestly desperate at this point.

"I'm begging you, his name is Kim Taehyung," Haru begins, "he sends child support to my mother every month... there got to be some information about him."

The woman rolls her eyes, clearly not gifted with enough time to deal with two annoying teenagers. She straightens up and is just about to open her mouth and tell them to leave the area. But before she can get to say a word, a new and unfamiliar voice enters the conversation.

"Did you say Kim Taehyung?"

It's a man speaking, who's standing in the queue right beside where Haru and Jaekyung are standing. Both boys look in surprise over at the person, who appears to be familiar with Taehyung's name. The man is tall, probably in the 180 cm range. He has some very nice brown hair and a face that probably makes people turn around one extra time - just to get a glimpse of that spotless skin, soft smile, and brown eyes.

The thought that this is Taehyung immediately enters Haru's mind, but he doesn't see any similarities between him and this man.

"Yes? Do you know him?" He's quick to ask, taking a step closer to the stranger. He probably seems like an eager puppy right now, but the slightest possibility of someone having some information is worth gold to him right now.

"I do," the man begins and clears his throat, clearly as confused about someone mentioning Taehyung's name, "but I'm wondering how you do?"

"Well..." Haru begins and shares a glance with Jaekyung behind him, "It's kind of a long story... but maybe you can help us find him!?"

"I can, but that certainly depends on what your relation to him is," the man continues. For a second there, they just stand awkwardly while staring at each other. Then the elder clears his throat and exchanges a few words with the helper he was talking with.

He then turns back to the boys, "Let's talk somewhere else."

Haru and Jaekyung share a glance before hesitantly agreeing to the request. Haru honestly doesn't care at this point if he's going to get kidnapped or something, he just needs to know more about his father.

They follow the stranger to one of the corners of the building where there's a common area filled with chairs and couches to rest on.

"Uhm, can I buy you something?" the guy questions, probably not sure what kids usually like to drink.

"Just water is fine," Haru smiles and makes the jumpy Jaekyung sit down on one of the couches. Haru has been in the industry for years even though he isn't even 18 yet, so he's not really uncomfortable being here with a stranger. With a family like his, you get kind of used to being in places with people of a certain 'stereotype'.

Jaekyung, on the other hand, can't even order a pizza over the phone by himself without freaking out.

"Great, I'll be back in a second," the male smiles and walks towards the café next to the common area.

Haru slumps his tense shoulders and Jaekyung almost lets out a gasp in pure agony.

"Oh my god," Jaekyung begins, "I hate strangers."

"Relax, maybe he can help," Haru turns to him and smiles, "he might actually know something!"

"Have you ever heard of trafficking? Cause I'm pretty sure this is how it starts," Jaekyung frightfully states, looking around. He has always been a scaredy-cat, but it's on a whole other level when he's in another country and only knows one person, which is Haru.

"Seriously? In a bank?" Haru questions.

"You could never know!"

He's right about that, but Haru just shakes his head and flinches a little when two glasses of water appear on the coffee table before them. The man sits down in front of them with a coffee in his hand for himself.

"So... I might as well introduce myself," he jumps right into it, "I'm Kim Seokjin, but you can just call me Jin."

The male, now known as Jin, smiles brightly which causes his handsome face to grow even more intriguing.

"I'm Haru, and this is Jaekyung," Haru smiles in return, trying his best not to rush all the information out of this man. Even though he's eager to know why he is familiar with his father, he needs to stay calm.

"I see, are you from South Korea? Haru is are more typical Japanese name, right?" Jin questions and takes a sip from his drink.

"Yes, we were born and raised in Japan, but we both have Korean family."

"So, that's why your Korean is so good," Jin smiles, "but what brings you here then? I suppose it has something to do with Tae? If it's the same man we are talking about... But I mean, what are the odds of that?"

That's true. Jin overhearing them talk about Kim Taehyung and knowing him is like a miracle. Makes Haru fear it might be the wrong Kim Taehyung he's looking for.

"Well..." Haru scratches his neck slightly and glances at Jaekyung. He's not really sure where to start, but decides to throw the bomb, "he's my biological father."

Jaekyung almost jumps out of his skin when Jin chokes on his coffee and gets into a desperate coughing session.

"Are you alright??" Haru asks concerned and reaches his glass of water out, but Jin declines.

"Y-Yes, yes... I was just... surprised," he clears his throat and claps his chest a few times to calm down. It was clearly very surprising to hear this, which makes Haru wonder if his father has not spoken a word about him to anyone.

But he quickly shakes his head. He doesn't know what Jin and Taehyung's relationship is, so maybe it's too intimate information to share between them.

Almost as if reading his thoughts, Jin adds, "I knew he had some distant family in Japan, but he never said anything about a son!?"

"Well, I have never been in contact with him," Haru states, "so I suppose it's not some information he's flashing around."

"True but..." Jin rubs the space between his eyebrows with his fingertips, "This is very hard for me to believe."

Haru gets that. Someone suddenly showing up and claiming to be the son of a person he has never talked to seems a little... off.

"But... you know him, right? Maybe I can get to meet him," Haru asks desperately, "that's why I took a semester here."

"I mean, I do but- I'm feeling a little complicated about this. I shouldn't have learned about this from no other than Tae," Jin sighs slightly.

Haru catches onto the nickname, which might indicate that this man is actually close with his father.

"How do you know him?" Haru asks.

"Actually, he's one of my employees," Jin states, making Haru's eyes grow in size. Just how lucky can he be, running into his father's boss??

"Really?"

"Yeah, I own a café downtown," Jin confirms, "he has worked under me for years. I can't believe he has a son!"

Haru wondered for a while if even Taehyung is aware he has a son, but Haru can remember very few glimpses of a man from his childhood. It has to be Taehyung.

Haru just hopes he remembers him.

"Can you take me to him?" Haru questions, sitting on the edge of the couch. He really, really hopes Taehyung is the man he's looking for.

"Well, I suppose but... I don't think it's my place to introduce you," Jin considers, "but you are welcome to show up at the café. Often, it's just the two of us, three once in a while."

"Really? Can we come by tomorrow?" it's getting pretty late, so Haru just assumes the café he's talking about is closed.

He can't believe he might actually be finding his father. Like, he expected to spend months just finding him. But luck was surely on his side today.

"Sure, and you can stay when we close. I suppose you are going to have some things to talk about," Jin comments, "but it's not like you are on bad terms or something with him, right? I don't want to lead the enemy directly to my friend if that's the case."

"Not at all! Well... technically I don't know, because I can't really remember him," Haru sighs slightly, "I have no idea why he left Japan and never took contact again."

"I have some idea," Jin sighs, "but that's not my place to assume. So it's probably better you have that talk with him yourself."

Haru agrees and Jin informs them of the address. Haru can almost feel himself shake with emotions, yet not being able to tell exactly what emotions are filling him.

Is it fear? Excitement? He's not sure.

Jaekyung just smiles gently at him as Jin has said goodbye, and they are now alone on the street outside the bank again.

After that, they decided to head back towards the dorm.
