Twenty-Six

"Where are they?" George asked stretching his back. It was nearly morning and Trey and Tony hadn't reappeared.

"They'll be back when they can," Brian said with a yawn.

"No!" Ray suddenly shouted.

They all turned and he was frantically digging at the sand.

"Ray?! What?!" Emily demanded.

"Isabella. She was right here! She just vanished!"

"Oh, God!" Emily gasped. "Does that mean they changed history?"

"Probably," Brian said. "If she lived and never became a vampire. She wouldn't be here now."

"No!" Ray said putting his head to his knees.

"Can we break the circle?" Emily asked looking at Brian.

"Just you. For now. Let me try get a reading on them."

Emily got up and went over to Ray taking her in her arms as he cried. "She's dead."

"You can't think like that," Emily told him.

"He's right," a voice called from behind him.

"Isabella's dead. Trey's dead. Tony's dead. They're all dead," the guy came walking down the path.

"Falco!" Raven said standing up quickly.

"Don't break it!" Brian called putting his hand up to her.

"It doesn't matter now, Brian. That's what I came to tell you," the guy said walking towards them but stopped a few feet away when his body slammed up into an invisible wall. "Nice," he said tapping on it with his knuckles.

"Who are you?" Brian demanded.

"I was...your worst nightmare," he said walking around the force field.

"Falco?" Raven asked looking at him puzzled.

"Name's Salvatore. Salvatore DeMarco," he told her with a smile. He looked at Brian. "I'm a changed man."

"I doubt that," Brian told him.

"Where's Tony, Trey and Isabella?" Emily demanded walking towards him.

"My dear, they died over five hundred years ago," he told them with a grin.

"I don't believe you."

"Believe it," another voice said from the other side of them. They turned. Massi walked over towards them.

"But he was dead," George said paling and pointing to him.

"What?" Massi asked with a frown.

"Remember? I supposedly killed you in their time," Salvatore explained.

"Oh, right. Thanks for not doing that again," Massi said rubbing his chest with a chuckle.

"No problem," Salvatore said with an amused smile.

"What's going on?" Jake demanded standing up careful not to break the circle.

Massi unwrapped a burlap bag under his arm and pulled out a box. He tossed it through the force field around them.

"What's that?" George eyed it suspiciously.

"Letters. From Tony, Trey and Isabella," Massi said and walked away.

Salvatore looked at them. "For what it's worth. I am sorry for what I did in your past timeline." he said shaking his head, "I can't even fathom it," and then turned to follow Massi his hands deep in his pocket, his head down.

"Should we?" Emily asked eying the box.

"As long as we stay in the circle, we should be okay opening it," Brian told them.

"Open it, Emily," Raven said wiping tears from her eyes.

Emily had a hard time opening the long sealed box but she finally opened it after breaking all her nails. Massi hadn't lied. The box was full of letters.

She took the one off the top that read "Read me, first" and opened it. Her hand shook as she recognized Tony's handwriting.

"What is it?" Jake asked her.

"Dear friends, if you're reading this we didn't make it back to your time. But don't worry. Trey and I are fine. In fact, we've never been better. We made it. We changed history. Massi and Salvatore have been told all that we went through and they forgive me for my past transgressions. We moved to Spain, during the time of the plague, and we all went back to Italy when it was time for Trey to meet his dear wife, Anna Maria. And then, of course, Isabella was born. Trey promises to write his own letter to explain things of his own to you. Please understand that we had to stay and have this life that was once stolen from us. Thank you for everything you have done for us. We love you all and will never forget you. All the days of our lives we will be eternally grateful. Love, Tony."

"I don't believe this," Raven said wiping her eyes. "We'll never see them again? Ever? How's that fair?"

"Life isn't fair, Raven. Look, they got their life back. Can't you be happy for them?" Brian asked.

"Happy? Happy they've been taken away from us?!" she cried.

"Emily?!" a woman's voice called.

Emily spun around so quick she nearly fell over. "Mom?" she asked blinking at the figure coming down the path.

"Well, Brian, you sure do know how to show the kids a good time. I hope not too much," she said with a smile.

"Mom!" Emily said racing over to her and threw her arms around her.

"Goodness me! What's all this about?" her mother said pulling her away to look at her.

"Jessi?" Brian asked walking toward her slowly.

"Not you too. What's going on? What did you two do?" she asked laughing as he pulled her into a tight hug.

"Jessi. Look," he said pointing to the center.

"Look at what?" she said with a laugh and looked toward the center of the pentagram.

She put her hands to her mouth and stared. She looked at Brian and back at them. He nodded.

"Samantha? Sarah? My babies!" she said rushing over to them. She grabbed them and pulled them into a hug. The girls hung onto their mother as she cried.

"What's going on?" another voice asked coming down the walkway.

"Dad!" Emily said running up to him and threw her arms around him.

"Hey, baby girl," He said hugging her. "What is...dear, god, are those?"

"My sisters," Emily said with a smile.

"You know?" he asked and looked at Brian.

"I think we have some explaining to do, Dan," Brian said. "But first. Come here," he said pulling him into a hug.

"So, if Em's parents are alive, does that mean ours are too?" Jake asked gesturing to Raven later that day.

"I don't know," Brian said from the arm chair.

"You don't remember them?" Raven asked, suddenly standing up with a smile.

"Remember what?" Jake asked and then smiled as memories started flooding his mind. Raven squealed in delight and then ran over to him hugging him."We were still adopted."

"Yes, but still... we had seven years! And I remember them. And they loved us!"

"Jake had to be adopted," Sam said quietly.

"What?" George asked.

"They had to die so that Jake could be adopted. So that he would have saved me."

"Save you?"

"The pitch fork," Jake said turning to look at her.

She nodded. "I was still adopted by our parents. If Jake never was then I would have still fallen from the hayloft and would have landed right on the pitchfork."

"It was fate," Brian said with a nod.
