Chapter Twenty-Two

"No, you'll be defenseless!" Brian protested as he paced the kitchen floor.

"The four of you together are strong enough to send me back and keep my current mind in my six year old body. We can do it," Trey insisted.

"You were just a boy. You're powers were just developing. They weren't even out yet. You can't possibly defend yourself."

"What would I be defending myself from? My mom wouldn't have died yet. There would be no thought of the plague. I'm just going to talk to them."

"You think that they'll listen to a six year old?!"

"You don't know my mother."

"Okay, say that she does listen to you. But what about Tony, he's as stubborn as a mule..."

"Hey!" Tony said coming in. "What's going on? Brian, tell me the truth. I know my son won't," he said brushing past Trey.

"He wants me to send him back."

"Back? You're not going back to him! I told you!" Tony said turning around.

"Not back to him. Back. Back to the past. So I can talk to Max before all the things he got upset about and stewed over got under his skin enough to want revenge."

Tony looked at him and then back to Brian. "No. Send me."

"That makes more sense." Brian said looking at Trey.

"No," Trey said firmly shaking his head.

"You were six, Trey!" Brian said.

"Six? You want to go back? To the night your mother died?"

"No, to when Massi told us about the plague. I want to tell you to take us away."

Tony rubbed his face. "Is that what this is about? Still? Massi still wants revenge? He's still alive?"

"No, he's dead," Trey said.

"It's a good plan," a voice said.

Brian and Trey turned and looked at the image appeared.

"It would save her. Save you," Massi said his ghostly figure moving towards them looking at Trey.

"What?" Tony asked. "What are you looking at?"

Sam walked in. "Hi, you must be Brian," Sam said with a smile holding out her hand to him. He shook it dumbfound. "Who's that?" she asked gesturing to the figure that Brian and Trey were staring at.

"Who?" Tony asked.

"Oh," Sam said looking the ghost over

"Massimiliano," he said with a bow.

"Massi?" she said taking a step back having heard all about him.

"Massi? He's here?" Tony asked looking around wide eyed.

"He's right there," Sam said gesturing.

"He can't see me. He doesn't have any gifts," Massi said.

"Shame," Sam said looking over Massi admiringly. He was evil but he was hot.

"You're not so bad yourself," Massi said with an arrogant smile leaning against the counter.

"Even in death," Trey said shaking his head.

"What?" Tony asked.

"He's making a pass at Sam," Trey said with a laugh.

"Typical," Tony said glancing towards the area they indicated his old friend stood.

"We'll discuss this later," Brian said looking at Sam and back to Massi.

"I'm not going to hurt your precious daughter," Massi said with a grin.

"You have always hurt my daughters. No more. We're going to end this. Now," Brian told him angrily.

"He's hurt Hope and Joy?" Sam said in shock spinning around to look at Brian. "How could you? They're babies!" she demanded trying to hit the ghostly figure.

Massi chuckled.

"Hope and Joy are fine," Brian said pulling her away as she was kicking the kitchen counter as her foot was going right through Massi's figure. She stopped kicking but glared at Massi. Brian turned her head by taking her chin in his hand. "He meant you."

"Me?" Sam asked blinking.

"Oh, I'm so glad I didn't miss this," Massi said.

"Shut up!" Trey told him.

"What do you mean he meant me?" Sam asked stepping back.

"Sam," Brian said reaching for her hand. He looked down at it as he took it. "I'm your father," he said and then blew out a breath.

"What? No. That's not possible," Sam said shaking her head and backed away. "My parents died in a car crash."

"Those were your first adoptive parents. You know that. I know you know that."

Sam looked away.

"Sam, you should sit," Brian said gesturing to the kitchen table.

"I don't need to sit," Sam said angrily; still backing away.

"Sam, please. Let me explain."

"Explain what? That you gave me away? Let me think I was a freak?"

"Sam, you're not a freak. Your gifts are special," Brian told her.

She shook her head. "You can't be. You can't be," she muttered spinning and started to run out the door but ran smack into...herself. She stared at the reflection in front of her. It was her but her hair was long as she had it when she was younger. Her face was the same. She looked down at the body, the same shape as hers yet wearing different clothes. The reflection stared at her as she stared at her.

"Sarah?" Brian asked his voice wavering.

Sam's reflection looked up and looked at him. Her eyes went back to Sam's. "It's okay. We can get through this together," the reflection told her.

Sam shook her head.

"We're sisters. Twins. I'm Sarah," She said and reached out her hand taking Sam's.

"Twins?" Sam repeated in shock.

Emily came down the stairs slowly. Tears sliding down her face.

"Em?" Sam asked.

Emily rushed over to them taking both of them in her arms. The girls cried together.

"Women," Massi said rolling his eyes. "I'll be back when the tears are over," he said fading away from Trey and Brian's sight.

"Emily," Brian said crossing the room towards the girls.

"How could you do this to me? Again?!" she yelled and pounded her fists against him.

He caught her taking him in her arms. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. We did what we had to do to keep you girls safe."

"Why didn't I see them? Why didn't I know?"

"We blocked them from you and you from them. So you wouldn't know. Until the time was right."

"The time was always right. We're sisters. We belong together," Sarah said wiping her eyes.

"I don't expect you to forgive me. Only to understand."

"I'll never understand why you'd split us up. Gave us away. Our own father just handed us over to strangers. Without a backward glance," Sarah cried.

"I have watched you every second of your life, Sarah! You think I didn't care? Didn't love you? You're my child. As are Sam and Emily. I kept you away because together your powers would call every demon there is. You were too young to know or understand what to do with your powers. You think we didn't try teaching you? But you were babies! You couldn't even talk never mind understand what to do with your powers. Apart your powers would take longer to come out and develop. They would be less likely to call attention to you. Understand this, if we hadn't done what we did, you'd either be dead or working for the demons. You would not be standing in this kitchen with your sisters."

"What do you mean working for them?" Emily asked.

"There are more than just a couple of sorcerer/vampires out there doing the devil's work."

"I know that," Emily said quietly.

"Do you? Your whole life has been centered on this; leading you here because this is something we need to help conquer. But when this is done, it doesn't mean that it's over."

"More will come," Sam said nodding. She felt it. Felt them. Somewhere out there. They were watching.

"We can handle it," Sarah said with a nod. "But after we fix this," she said moving over to Trey. "What do we do?"

"I don't know how it's done. Brian, do you..." he asked turning to him.

He nodded. "Ladies, get some candles. Tony, get the others. It's time to finish this."
