Chapter Nineteen
Trey slipped into bed next to Sarah. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her cheek. She moved into him and he held onto her tighter. He could feel Brian's spell on her as he eyed her neck. It shone at him slightly blue. He knew better than to get near it with his mouth. If he did he'd get a mighty big jolt of electricity zapped into him. It wouldn't knock out a normal vamp it might slow them down but for him, but having the powers that he did, it could knock his powers down, knocking him down. Nice, Brian, Trey thought. But then he had a terrifying thought. Brian could stop him from biting Sarah but only if Brian was able to properly judge the strength of his powers. But what Brian couldn't tell how strong he really was? Trey was born with natural powers, yes, but Salvatore and Max had cultivated those powers by teaching him black magic and making sure that he used it.
Sarah woke up to the sun streaming through the room. She smiled looking down at the arm across her waist, up to the bicep, the bare shoulder and the sleeping face. He looked calm now. She could tell he was sleeping well, and wondered if he put a spell on himself, as she felt some energy in the air that she hadn't felt before. Or maybe it was because she was finally accepting who she was, that she now recognized that there was energy in the air. Or maybe it was her own tension considering he was sleeping again in her bed without any clothes on.
She let him sleep. She went and took a shower going over the events of the night before in her head. She was psychic! It wasn't a question anymore but an answer. She had had a whole conversation with someone using her mind. And strangely enough she wasn't scared about it. Even stranger enough she wasn't scared of him. Even though he had turned himself into a puppy to watch her. Watch over her, she corrected herself. That did make her nervous. Why would she need watching over? Why would her father send him to watch over her? Protect her, he had said. Protect her from what? Herself? Did they think she would do something like Trey had done when he had come into his powers?
She shook her head as she dried off. No, she couldn't see herself doing anything like that. Not that she could see him doing anything like that either. But he had. He told her he had.
She quickly got dressed and then went back to her bedroom to check on him. He had rolled over away from the window and was now more on her side of the bed. His arms were wrapped around a pillow and she hoped that he was dreaming about holding her. She blushed just thinking about it.
There was a knock at the door pulling her from gawking at the exposed bare upper half of his body. She didn't know how long she had stood there tracing his muscular arms and strong back with her eyes but being pulled out of it so quickly caused her embarrassment about being caught. Luckily, not by him.
She went to the door and opened it.
"So, how was the date?! Why didn't you call me?!" Donna exclaimed coming in.
"Will you just ....shhh!" Sarah said quietly and closed the door behind her, "Keep it down."
She rushed to the hallway and peered down the hall to make sure Donna hadn't woken him.
"Sarah! He's still here?!" Donna exclaimed her jaw dropping as she followed Sarah down the hall.
Sarah quickly shut the bedroom door but not before Donna saw him lying half naked in her bed.
Donna laughed. "You slut! I never knew you had it in you!"
"Shh!" Sarah hushed her and moved down the hall. "We didn't sleep together. We just slept together."
"Oh," Donna said with a disappointed look. "Well, why the hell not?"
"As you said, I don't have it in me," Sarah said going into the kitchen to make coffee.
"I'm just teasing you, Sarah, geez. Of course you can. He's hot, you're hot, it's only natural to want to make hot monkey love."
Sarah rolled her eyes at her friend, "Maybe I'm not ready."
"Well...that's ok too," Donna said reassuringly.
Sarah nodded as she took out two mugs.
"What'd Romeo have to say about that?" Donna asked leaning against the counter.
"Oh, he was great," Sarah said with a sigh. And then smiled. "He just cuddled me all night. It was really nice."
"Oh, how sweet!" Donna exclaimed. "And the date?"
Sarah laughed,"You think he'd be sleeping in my bed if it didn't go well?"
"Where'd he take you?"
"To the Outwoods Theatre to see Parthenon."
"Oh, he is good," Donna said admirably.
"With a picnic dinner which he made himself."
Donna sighed, "Why can't I meet a guy like that?" she pouted.
"And get this, he's going to UC and he is going to take some of my classes."
"You're kidding! What a coincidence! Sarah, that's really great."
"Thanks," she said and stirred the coffee into the now boiling water.
"Wait, I thought he was twenty-two or something. Wouldn't he have graduated by now?"
"He has. He said he takes extra classes because he likes to learn."
"Oh, he's an egghead like you. You're a perfect match."
Sarah smiled. "I think so."
"I'm so happy for you!" Donna said, hugging her.
"Don't jinx it."
"Oh, you're not jinxed, Sarah."
"Whenever something good happens, wham, it gets messed up," Sarah told her.
"Nothings going to mess this up."
Sarah shrugged. "I'll be happy if it doesn't but I'm not holding out for the best."
"You're so depressing sometimes."
They heard the bedroom door open and then Trey appeared fully dressed and very sleepy eyed.
"Morning, Casanova," Donna said with a smile.
Trey nodded to her and went over to Sarah and kissed her lightly on the lips. He pulled her into a sleepy hug and then released her.
"Morning," Sarah said as he slipped onto a bar stool next to Donna at the counter.
Sarah slid him her coffee which she hadn't yet put milk or sugar into.
He picked it up and sipped. "The first thing you should know about me, I am not a morning person," he muttered and tried to look up at her with half-opened eyes.
"Obviously," Sarah said coming next to him and kissed his cheek.
Trey eyed Sarah and then Donna. His eyes staying on Donna longer. He looked back to Sarah. "I better go," he said getting up.
"Don't go on my account," Donna said.
"Believe me, I am," he said over his shoulder as he walked towards Sarah who had begun making another cup of coffee. "Bye, gorgeous," he said wrapping his arms around her.
"You have to go?"
"Yes," he murmured kissing her forehead. "Unfortunately."
"So..."
He smiled. "So, I'll be back to pick you up for dinner. Say six?"
Sarah smiled happy he wanted to see her again. "Sounds good."
"You'll be ok?" He asked in her mind. She nodded."If you need me. For anything. Just call me. Like this. I can still hear you miles away if you think of me and send your thought to me."
"I don't know if I can," she said out loud.
"Sarah," Donna said surprised, clearly thinking she was backing out on the date.
"You can," he said firmly and picked up a pad and pen from her dining room table.
He scribbled on it. "This is my cell just in case," he said handing the paper to her.
"Okay."
"Okay." He said with a smile. He leaned in and kissed her again on the lips. "I'll see you tonight, gorgeous."
"Bye," she said blushing as he tucked her hair behind her ears before she could do so.
She didn't know what to do with her hands since they usually did that when she was nervous. They ended up on his arms
He kissed her again lingering longer this time. "Let's make it five o'clock," he said putting his forehead against hers.
She laughed lightly. "Okay."
He touched her cheek with his hand and then went towards the door. "Good day, Donna," he told her opening the apartment door and closed it firmly behind him.
"Good day? He doesn't like me, does he?" Donna asked.
"I...don't know," Sarah said looking at the closed door.
"I'm sorry if I did something. Or most likely, said something."
"It's okay. I'm sure it's nothing. He said he's not a morning person."
"Oh, he definitely was with you," Donna said with a smile and took a drink of her coffee.
"Shut up."
"Man, he has it bad for you."
"Shut up."

"Feeling better?" Emily asked him from his doorway.
"If you let me sleep I will," Trey said from his bed.
"You had enough to eat this morning?"
"I went to some givers, okay?"
"Everything...okay there?"
"Oh, for God's sake! I didn't kill them if that's what you mean."
"Just...checking."
"It's fine, I mean, you have every right to ask me that; especially after last night."
She shrugged. "Probably won't be the last time either."
"Probably not," he said quietly.
"Whenever you need me, Trey."
"Yeah, thanks."
"Good day," she said kissing his cheek. "Sweet dreams."
He closed his eyes feeling a sleepiness flood over him. "Good day," he said with a yawn.
She waited until he fell asleep and then finished a protection spell over him to give him peace while he rested. Her code word to shorten the spell so she didn't have to say the whole thing every time was "sweet dreams" and she'd used it over Jake many times. It was an effective spell.
Trey had a rough night with whatever it was that had happened to him. She hoped there wouldn't be another like that. But she knew there would be. He deserved the rest now. She took a seat in an armchair in the corner of the room to watch him sleep. And to make sure no one else was.
