Y/n's POV

The next day, I walk to the beach so I can talk to Vylad. It's a quiet and peaceful morning, there's not much going on. Finally, at the beach, I look around.

That's strange... Vylad's always early...

I look up to see the sun barely above the horizon.

I'm probably too early...

So, I decide to sit down on the sand and watch the ocean waves splash against the shore; the sun rays glaring down on the blue sea... I see why Vylad wanted to meet here. It's almost as pretty as the sunset.

"Mornin' Y/n!" A cheery voice exclaims. I turn to see Alec happily strolling towards me.

"Are you happy that you got blasted by magic yesterday?" I ask, slightly chuckling. "Because your forehead sure doesn't seem like it."

The ex-bandit frowns rubbing the small bump on his head. "I'm sorry, but in my defense, the boys dragged me into it!"

"Sure... I forgive you, though."

His frown is soon replaced by a smile. "Thanks. Hey, are you waiting for Vylad?"

"Yea-" Suddenly, from the corner of my eye, I see my sister emerge from the nearby forest with a frightened look in her eyes. "Owl?"

"Y/N!" She yells, running over to me. "Thank Irene... V-Vylad, h-he... I... I..." She sputters, unable to say anything else.

Alec is immediately at her side, rubbing her back. "Hey, are you okay? Can you tell us what happened?"

Owl nods, takes a few deep breaths and then starts to explain, "I was with Laurance, talking and joking around with him when Vylad passed by. I guess something just clicked in his head and he... his eyes turned red." My sister looked straight into my eyes. "He hit Vylad."

My eyes widen. "What?!"

Owl frantically nods her head. "Laur started yelling and I-I ran, b-but I think Vylad's hurt."

"Lead me to him."

My sister takes my hand, and we start running, Alec following close behind. We sprint across the sand, into the forest. When we finally get to Vylad and Laurance, my heart stops.

Laurance is holding a bloody Vylad by the neck.

"O-Oh my Irene..." Alec mutters, staring wide-eyed.

"YOU TOLD ME I SHOULD CUT OFF MY EMOTIONS, AND WHAT DO YOU DO?! INSTEAD OF ACTUALLY TRYING TO HELP ME YOU GO OFF AND FALL IN LOVE! YOU'RE LUCKY SHE'S THE SISTER OF SOMEONE I TRUST, OR I WOULD'VE SHREDDED HER TO PIECES AS WELL!" At that, Laurance drops Vylad on the ground and walks into the forest.

"Laurance!" Owl screams, running after him.

"V...?" I mutter, dropping to my knees in front of him. "I-It's going to be alright, I'm going to heal you... besides, you're immortal, right? You won't die..."

I reach my hand out to him, but he catches it before I can get to his wounds. My boyfriend smiles and shakes his head. "No... I'm not an immortal Shadow Knight... but you shouldn't help me. I knew this was going to happen. I should've been... more careful... Please don't forget me..."

"Never...! I will never forget you ever again, Vylad!" I try to get my other hand to him. "Please, just let me heal-!"

"NO!" Vylad grabs my other hand as well and holds both of them tight. "N-No... I deserve this..."

"Vylad, p-please! You saved me when I was attacked, why can't I save you?!" I shout.

All he does is close his eyes and sigh. "Before anything else happens, I just wanted you to know..."

My lover pulls me close to him so he can whisper in my ear, "Happy April Fools Day..." Then, he lets out his 'last breath'.

"VYLA- Wait, what?!"

Just then, Vylad gently pushes me away from him and grins, opening his eyes. "What do you mean, "what"? Happy April Fools Day! Did you forget, sweetie?"

I stare into his gleaming emerald eyes in shock.

Did he just fake his own death...? Wow, guess it runs in the family...

Suddenly, I hear laughs. I turn to see Laurance and Owl emerging from the trees, large smiles on their faces.

"Got you, sis! Aren't I such a great actor?" My sister boasts.

Beside them, Alec looks around in confusion. "W-Wait, what?! What's April Fools Day, and why did you guys just prank us?!"

"April Fools Day is the first day of April, where everyone plays pranks each other," Laurance explains. He then walks over to Vylad. "Hey, are you okay...? Sorry if I held you too hard..." He says, grabbing his hand and hoisting him up.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Y/n? Beautiful, are you okay?" V asks, taking my hand and doing the same.

I nod. "Yes... Still a little shaken up, though."

He smiles. "Good. I'm sorry for tricking you," He says, giving me a quick kiss on the lips. That's when I taste the blood, or, rather, fake blood: red berry juice.

No wonder he got up so easily...

Just then, Vylad joins Laurance and Owl as they all exclaim, "HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!"

"I meant what I said, though..." Laurance mumbles.
