Chapter 30: Finally - Annabeth
A/n: Okay, so I really need to know if I should write the other side of these last few chapters in another story. If I do, this story might not last much longer, but if I don't than you may never figure out the other half. I really want your opinions, please! Now, into the chapter!
PoV:Annabeth
We landed at Havenfield. It was a little rough, considering that there were 5 people all trying to land at the same time. A weird, feather covered... thing screeched as we landed, and a group of horned pegasi flew over.
We were all standing when we hit the ground, but a few moments later Sophie dropped to her knees with her arms wrapped around herself.
"Foster, are you okay?" Keefe exclaimed worried.
"I'm fine." Sophie replied through gritted teeth.
"You're not fine, " I replied, taking off my cap as Keefe called for someone named Elwin.
Elwin came running out of Havenfield apparently having been prepared for this. He knelt in front of Sophie. "Hey, can you look up at me, please?" When Sophie did, he gasped at her frail form, " What have you been eating the past few weeks?! "
"Uh... Nothing?" She tried with a small smile.
Elwin shook his head, " You would've died of you hadn't eaten anything. Maybe they shoved it in your mouth, or something? "
"Well, in full honesty, I don't remember eating at all. I don't know why, but I get the feeling in forgetting things."
I didn't quite understand why that meant anything, but the elves all either gasped or had a look of surprise on their faces. I decided not to think about it since a strange... figure was walking towards us, along with two elves following him.
When the elves saw Sophie they ran up and hugged her, both of them crouching in the dirt. They kept whispering things to her and she kept smiling.
"Elwin?" Sophie asked when her parents finally let go, "How many elixers will it be this time?"
" Not that many. Only about 10 or 11. " Elwin replied.
My eyes met Leo's. He had the same look of confusion as I probably did. "Hold on, only 10 or 11? How is that a small amount?" I asked.
" Well, I have had to give Sophie about 40 elixers every morning and night for about a month. 11 is a much more preferred number. " Elwin explained.
I shuddered. It wasn't that I had anything against it, I just hated the idea of having to drink 40 whole bottles of medicine every morning. Honestly, that could kill you, but that was beside the point.
"Unfortunately," Elwin continued, " Most of them are still in the Healing Center at FoxFire. We'll have to go there. "
Sophie nodded, "Dad, can you get Flori?" Grady nodded and walked away. As soon as he was gone, Keefe scooped Sophie off the ground bridal style, "Woah, Keefe, what? I can walk on my own!"
Keefe smirked, " I know, but this is easier than you tripping everywhere. Besides, you're enjoying it! "
"No I'm not," Sophie grumbled , rolling her eyes. She failed to hide the light pink blush that formed in her cheeks, though, causing Keefe to grin even more.
When Grady came back he mumbled something under his breath and looked like he was going to tell something, "Wait, dad! " Sophie exclaimed, "He's just helping me out! Don't yell at him!"
Grady mumbled something again before he pulled out a pathfinder. He turned the crystal to the right position before waiting for Flori, whoever that was.
Suddenly, a small person with green teeth and braided hair arrived. "You said you needed me, Sophie?" She asked.
" Yeah, Flori, can you come with us please? " Sophie asked. Flori nodded and Grady held the pathfinder to the light.
"Annabeth, Leo, be very careful and try to concentrate on keeping yourself together." Keefe instructed as Elwin stepped into the beam.
"Okay," Leo and I replied in sync. Keefe smiled before bringing Sophie and himself into the light. I took a deep breath and followed them.
It was a lot harder than I had expected it to be. When we finally arrived, I was glad Sophie would be okay enough to take us home soon. Leo seemed to have the same idea as me, and we both laughed before following them into Foxfire.
The school was huge! I suddenly understood why everyone but Sophie was awkward at the human high school. The lockers were big enough to put a person in, and they had a strange grey strip next to them. I made a mental note to ask about it later.
I'd lost track of what day it was, but since I didn't see anyone, I assumed it was Saturday or Sunday. there crystal walls showed our reflection as we passed and they all looked the same. Considering Sophie's signature habit of making little mistakes, like being clumsy, I was surprised she didn't get lost every day.
When we arrived at the Healing Center, the first thing I noticed were the pictures. On a shelf above one of the cots, there were many different pictures of Sophie. Keefe set Sophie down on the cot below the pictures and saw me looking at them.
"Looking at the pictures?" Keefe asked . He smiled when I nodded, "Yeah, Foster's here a lot. Elwin actually has a designated cot for her. It's kinda a running joke, now."
I smiled, thinking about Will and the others in the Apollo cabin. My smile fell when it reminded me of what Phobos had said. I turned to Leo. "Hey, can we talk out in the hall?" I asked him. He nodded and we went back out.
" What is it, Annabeth? " Leo asked.
"It's just... Phobos said the gods are having a 'change of heart '. Do you think that means my mom and your dad are going to fight us? "
"I highly doubt it. I mean, Mr. D would probably find a way to remind them that we've been helping them this whole time." Leo pointed out.
" I guess, but then, who was he talking about? If the gods were having a change of heart, who would they be turning against? "
"How about us?" Biana's voice asked. I turned around to see her standing by the closed door to the Healing Center.
" How long were you standing there? " Leo asked.
"The entire time."
" Man, I need you to teach me how to do that! "
"That's besides the point. I'm just thinking, maybe the gods are turning against us elves. Think about it. Phobos kidnapped Sophie, and he kept saying that, 'elf or not', we couldn't escape, which means someone told him elves are very powerful."
I thought about it, " That would make sense, but who would be telling the gods about elves? I mean, the Neverseen are elves themself, right? At least most of them. "
"But if they say that they can protect the gods power, they might decide to join them," Leo pointed out.
"That doesn't explain why the Neverseen was going after demigods, though," I countered.
" Well, first of all, they know the child of Athena from the prophecy has to be a demigod, so they could be going after you guys for that reason, or they know you can convince the gods the Neverseen are bad. " Biana answered.
All the pieces were clicking together. I just didn't want to see the picture, "But how do we convince the gods they're joining the wrong side?"
" Maybe we can start with Mr. D? " Leo suggested, "He'll probably believe us, and maybe he can help switch the gods back!"
" Maybe... " I kept thinking until a problem surfaced.
Biana seemed to realize it at the same time as I did, "Hold on, they're looking for you, Annabeth. If the Neverseen are looking for you, I have no doubt they're searching for you too, Leo. And if the Neverseen know Sophie was... I guess traumatized is the best way to put it, then they'll know you're here! "
"Which means that, as soon as Sophie's good again, we're going to hide." I said. It made me sad that I couldn't see Percy again, but I knew he'd want me to be safe, "Do you know anywhere that would be safe here?"
" Why here? " Leo asked.
"Cause I have a feeling the reason Sophie was in the Forbidden Cities was because the gods can't see us here. If the gods can't see us and the Neverseen can't find us, we should be somewhat safe, considering monsters can't show up here since the doors are closed."
Biana nodded her head slowly, "Well, there are a few Black Swan bases you could probably stay at. I'm sure Forkle will be okay with it. "
Elwin popped his head out the door, "Hate to interrupt, but I just wanted to say that Sophie will be on bed rest for the rest of today and will be able to go home tomorrow morning. "
I have him a thumbs up and he ducked back inside. "Alright," I said quietly, though I wasn't sure who I was worried was listening, " We'll stay here for tonight. And tomorrow, we hide and make a plan. It's time to stop the Neverseen once and for all. "
Okay, so I realize I already said this, but please tell me if you want a story from the PoV of Percy, Dex, Hazel, and Fitz during Sophie's rescue. I want personal opinion. Also, I will try to be better at consistent updates. Anyways, I'll see you later!
