Chapter 26: Seriously, can we get on with the rescue, now? -Annabeth
A/n: I apologize for the wait. I just posted 5 things last time, so I decided to take the day off, but it was really boring so now I'm speed writing before I have to sleep. ALso, I can't write fight scenes, so if any of you want to, you can write one for me! For now, I'm just gonna skip past the fight. Sorry to those of you who were looking forward to it. this chapter will also be really short, cause it's just filler. Anyways, Enjoy!
PoV:Annabeth
It took a while, but we finally defeated all the monsters. Even with the abilities of the elves on our side, it was difficult. Something about the monsters was different; they were more aggressive, somehow, and seemed stronger. Judging by the look on Keefe's face as he fought, it had something to do with Sophie.
As the Hydra turned to dust in front of Biana and me, who'd decided to join me with the Hydra because it would be easier to hide my presence that way, I looked over to Keefe, who'd, somehow, beaten the chimera alone. He was crouching, his hand over his mouth in shock. I watched as Biana quickly ran over to him and hugged him, whispering something in his ear. Whatever she said must've worked, because he slowly stood up and walked around, I assumed looking for Sophie.I
When I turned to find Leo, I found him fending off a very burned and very angry Minotaur. I shifted the grip on my dagger before running up and slicing it from behind, weakening it enough for Leo to kill him. As the Minotaur's dust floated to the ground, the voice came again.
"Well we'll well," it laughed, " Looks like you've passed test number one. Lucky for you, the Moonlark did too. She's just passed test three, but isn't doing as well. Just teetering on the edge of sanity, ready to fall into a broken depth she can never return from. " it laughed again as the four of us came together, but I made sure to stay invisible as we did so, "You should've realized it sooner! The more you resist, the worse it'll be for you! If you hadn't passed test one, you'd all have died quick, simple deaths. The more you win, the worse your death will be for you, which means it's more fun for me!
" Time for test two, to see if that was just luck. " the wall opened to reveal three tunnels, "down two of these halls are monsters. One of them leads to your Moonlark. You can only pick one tunnel, before it closes behind you. The monsters are strong, and fire will only enrage them, so I recommend not fighting them. Good luck!"
The voice faded away as we stood there. Keefe spoke up first, "Okay, guys, normally I would say to 'trust the Empath', but, even I don't trust the Empath's judgement right now!" His pained expression explained more than enough for me.
Leo stood still for a moment, thinking, before he jerked his head up, " I have an idea!"
"Does this idea involve enraging deadly monsters?" Keefe asked, an excited look of his face. When Leo nodded, Keefe almost started jumping for joy, " Yes! Now we can definitely Foster it! "
Biana rolled her eyes. "Boys," she muttered. I knew how she felt. Percy was my boyfriend, after all!
"Alright, guys!" Leo started, rubbing his hands together, " My plan is to shoot fire down two hallways. If a monster comes running out of both, we know the one I didn't try is safe. If a different one doesn't reveal a monster, that's the safe one. Either way, be ready to run."
Before anyone could object to the plan - which actually wasn't that bad - Leo turned and threw two fireballs down the path on the far right and the middle. Immediatly, we heard screeching emerge from both tunnels and we all quickly ran into the left on, letting the tunnel close behind us.
I told you this chapter was shorter, but don't worry, Keefe's going to pick up where we left off, I just had an upcoming moment I want to write from Keefe's PoV, so I had to end it there. Sorry! I have practice tomorrow morning, so I'll try to post as soon as I can afterwards! Later!
