Chapter 24: Resuce? - Annabeth

A/n: so, some of the ideas for this chapter came from @TheNerdified_Kiwi. Big thanks to them!

PoV: Annabeth

As Keefe, Biana, Leo and I arrived outside the cave, I could only think of how long it had taken us to find it. Sophie had been missing for at least 3 weeks, for all we knew, she was killed long ago. Still, I refused to believe that the prophecy would kill her when she seemed like an important part of it.

"I'll go in first, " Leo suggested, "I'm a pyrokinetic, so I can light the way."

" I 'll be second, " Biana offered, "Since I can vanish. Keefe will come third and Annabeth last, since she can vanish as well. Then your demigod scent or whatever it's called won't be so strong. "

I nodded as Leo lit his hand on fire. Pulling in my cap, I snuck in after Keefe. When I looked back to make sure no one was following us, I stopped. Somehow, Biana seemed to either realize I paused or looked back herself, but Keefe accidentally ran into her. When Leo turned around to see what all the commotion was about, he saw it too.

The entrance was gone. Just, gone.

I pulled off my cap and walked over to it. It felt like solid stone. "What in Tartarus?" I mumbled.

Keefe came over to join me. " You sure this is the way we came? " he asked. I nodded and motioned for him to try it. He was about to touch it before he paused and walked over to a now visible Biana. They poke in the Enlightened Language, which we hadn't been taught yet, until they motioned for us to keep walking.

I popped my cap back on as we continued down the hall. Keefe kept his hand on the wall the entire time, and, judging by the occasional pebbles that fell from the opposite wall, Biana was doing the same. I couldn't figure out what they were trying to do, but I didn't bother to ask.

We walked in complete silence, minus the quiet sound of our footsteps. I took this time to think. Where was Sophie? Why was she here in the first place? How'd she get here? What had she been doing this whole time? What is she hiding?

Suddenly, Leo stopped. I was about to tell at him for being annoying and wasting precious time, until I saw it. A dark room. It seemed to snuff out even Leo's fire, leaving only the smallest flame.

"Woah," Leo gasped as the fire kept growing smaller.

 " Get more fire! " I hissed.

 "I'm trying! It's not working!"

I sighed and looked at the ground as I stepped on something. As I held it to Leo's dwindling flame, I recognized it as a necklace with a familiar black charm.

"Hey, Biana," I asked, causing her to reappear, " Did you drop your Black Swan necklace? "

Biana shook her head, "As helpful as it is I learned it's better to not take things that revel who you work for on a mission. Not to mention mine blew up when I threw it at one of Ruy's force fields a while back. "

"What about you, Keefe?"

He also shook his head, " I gave mine to Sophie years ago to show her we were on the same side. She's never gave it back. "

"So that means..." the pieces clicked, " Sophie had to have been here. Especially if no one else was here after."

I watched as Keefe and Biana's eyes both lit up with a sad kind of hope. I felt the same way. Now we knew we were in the right place, but that just made the pressure even higher if we couldn't find her.

As we kept walking, Leo stopped us at a dead end. I looked around for another path, but there was nothing. I went to go back the way we came, but there was a wall right behind me. "Are you serious?" I said out loud. What was happening ? How did Sophie not go crazy getting here, in the dark, alone?

I turned back and watched Keefe walk around the outside of the room. Before I could ask him what he was doing, he winced and slowed down. He came to a stop in front of one of the walls, murmuring something under his breath.

"You good, Keefe?" Leo asked. As he walked over to where Keefe was standing, his still lit flame started brightening and growing. He gasped before meeting eyes with what looked like a pained Keefe.

" Foster's in there. " He whispered.

"But, how? " I asked, "I didn't see any other paths, and we can't go back the way we came anyway."

Keefe looked at the ground below him before walking into the wall. I expected him to crash into it, like your supposed to, but instead he just went straight though it. Immediately I followed, and after me came Leo and, I assumed, Biana.

We arrived with in a bigger room. It was bright enough to not need Leo's fire anymore, and had surprisingly smooth walls. I pulled out my dagger, preparing for the worst, but Keefe just kept walking forward. The more steps he took, he harder it was to look at his expression.

He came to a stop in front of a wall and placed his hand on it. He gave one of the most forced smirks I've ever seen as he whispered, "Geeze, Foster. Why is it that, while I try to act dumb, you still make more stupid decisions than me?" He moved is hand away and started walking around , trying to find an entrance. "Foster's in here." He said a bit louder, " Trust me. "

A strange voice came down around us, "Well aren't you a clever boy? Miss Vacker, I've been trained to spot Vanishers. Just join us in sight, please? "

"How about no?" I heard Biana reply defiantly .

"I had a feeling you'd say that. It doesn't matter. It just would've made things much more fun." By the way he said it, I didn't really want to find out what he considered " fun. "

"Who are you?" Keefe asked.

The voice chuckled, " You don't know how much I would have enjoyed it if Sophie asked that question. Unfortunately, she didn't until much later. Ruined the effect. You, however. You're new. This should be interesting.

"I'm whoever you want me to be. Or, rather, who you don't want me to be. I can be the creator of some of your worst nightmares," the voice changed to sound more feminine, and it reminded me of Hera. Judging by the look on Leo's face, I was probably right, "Or perhaps a loved one?" The voice became male again, and I saw Biana reappear with a look of terror on her face. When I listened more closely, it reminded me of Fitz, but ... older?

"Oh, I know! How about the people who ruined your life? " The voice changed between two people, man and a woman. By the way Keefe's face paled and Biana grabbed his hand, it was probably the horrible parents he told me about, "Why not the person you're looking for?" I knew all of us were afraid hearing Sophie's voice insult us, " Ooh! So you're all afraid of your missing friend? I wonder why that is? Now the real question: are you scared of what I did to her, or what she could do to you? " Sophie 's voice chuckled, "Well, as entertaining as this is, Sophie has been more fun to mess with. In fact, I'm pretty sure she might shatter soon. "

I didn't know it was possible for Keefe and Biana's faces to go any more white, but somehow they managed it. Judging by their reactions, "shattering" wasn't good.

"Hm..." The man with Sophie's voice bummed as if in thought, "Is there someone else in the group? You don't feel as afraid as I thought you would. How about this? "

Sophie's voice changed to that of Bob. My heart melted and my soul felt crushed as I heard his voice. I never forgave myself for leaving him in Tartarus, and I'm sure Percy hasn't either. "Strange. Now there's even less fear. Why does this voice make you sad? No matter." The, ironically, unearthly voice of Gaea filled the room , "You'll all suffer anyway." All of a sudden, three of the walls opened and a Hydra, a very, very big minotaur, and a chimera walked out.

"You know, you're very lucky," The voice laughed as we took up defensive stances, which included Biana vanishing and Leo gathering fire, "Had there been four of you, you'd have to fight eight monsters. I do that, with every multiple of four you fight twice as many . It would be been fun to see you fight them. Oh well, maybe this'll cause Sophie to actually break and they can get the information they want. "

"Who is 'they'?" Leo asked as the minotaur approached him.

" That's classified, isn't it? Well, if and when you're about to die, I'll tell you. It'll die with you, and it won't be a problem. Good luck! "

And the Minotaur pounced.

Is it bad that I had fun writing this chapter? Sorry to leave you hanging like that, I just am really bad at writing fight scenes. Well, I hope you liked this chapter! Next it will be Sophie 's PoV so you get to know what she's been doing these least three weeks. See you then!
