Chapter 16: Gone - Annabeth

A/n: So, I'm gonna start giving really vague chapter titles. Hopefully the don't give away the whole chapter, but I think they should be fine. This is a few days after the previous chapter. Enjoy!

PoV: Annabeth

(Where is she?) I thought as I sat on Half Blood Hill, (She should be here by now, right?) I checked my watch. 4:47. More than 45 minutes late. I stood up and walked over to the barrier. No one.

It was strange. Today was Monday, and we didn't have school for Veterans Day, so I'd been waiting here all day. Sophie hadn't been here since Friday, so I'd been thinking about the prophecy alone for the past few days. Of course I didn't tell Percy or the others about it; I didn't was then to worry, but Chiron had also told me that, if we end up having to split, I'd have to tell them all why.

Sighing, I walked back to my cabin. Everyone else was gone, so I was alone. I walked into the bathroom and dropped a coin in the sink. I was to tired to talk, so I just asked to see Sophie at Havenfield in my mind. I was surprised to see it didn't work.

Quickly, I ran to Chiron to tell him I was going to the school. He must've seen the panic in my face because he quickly nodded and I ran out the door. I dashed towards to school, not caring about the looks people have me, or that I was running out of breath. I refused to stop.

I had decided against trying to Iris Message Sophie because I was worried about what might happen if someone else was there. According to Sophie, the first and only time I had Iris Messaged her had been a close call with Keefe. After not seeing her for 3 days, though, I was worried.

When I arrived at the school, the first thing I noticed was the door was open. I quickly slipped inside, wishing I'd thought to bring my invisibility cap. The halls were dark and quiet, and it was strange to be in such an empty building.

I froze when I heard the sound of voices. When I stopped moving, I could hear that they weren't ahead of me, but behind. Slowly, I turned to face whoever it was, and as I was about to pull out my dagger, I recognized the sea green eyes of my boyfriend.

"Percy?!" I hissed, " What are you doing here?!? "

"We saw you run out of Camp, so we decided to follow you." Percy explained , moving to the side to reveal a somewhat cowering Hazel.

"Why? You think I didn't leave with good reason?"

" We just wanted to make sure you didn't get into to much trouble. " Hazel nodded in agreement.

"Just, please go back!" I pleaded, hoping they would listen. ( Man, I'd kill for Piper's charmspeak right now!)

"Listen, Wise Girl. You may be the smartest out of the group, but don't think that means I'll  just let you go off on your own. We go together."

"Fine," I mumbled, "Just be quiet."

" Why'd you even come here in the first place? " Hazel whispered as we continued walking.

"I haven't seen Sophie in a while. I'm worried."

Percy gave me a confused look, "Um, hate to break it to you, but you haven't seen her because it's the weekend."

" No! We have a... group project in Science we were going to work on, and she said she would meet me near camp to work on it. And before you get mad, " I continued, cutting both of them off, "I meant we'd be outside the barrier so she wouldn't see camp."

" What if she's sick? " Hazel asked.

"Okay, in full honesty, I tried to Iris Message her. She already knew what it was before I mentioned it, so don't get mad at me. She's just not a demigod."

" Like Calypso? " Percy asked.

"Yes? She just can't see camp."

Percy nodded, " So, the Iris Message didn't work? And you're looking for her here? "

"Exactly." We continued forward in silence until we reached a slightly open door. I carefully pushed it open to see three people standing inside , two about our Percy's height and on about as tall as a human man. No one spoke, they just moved like they knew what the others were thinking.

Telepathy.

Suddenly, one of the shorter people looked up. When his ice blue eyes met mine, I recognized him immediately.

"Keefe?" I asked, causing the other two people in the room to jump.

" Hey, Annabeth! " he said with a smile, and I grinned back. Sophie had told me about how she was teaching Keefe English, and he seemed to be doing well, "Why are you here?"

" Um, actually, we were looking for someone. "

"Who?"

" First, tell me who they are, " I countered, pointing at the other two figures in the room.

"Oh! It's Fitz and Sophie's adopted father, Grady!"

I gave Fit a wave before walking towards Grady , "It's nice to meet you. Sophie's told me all about you." His eyes widened and I realized he either understood at least most of what I said or Fitz was transmitting really fast.

It was obviously option one because he learn down and looked me in the eyes, "Everything?" He whispered.

" Everything. Including Edaline and Jolie." Grady just nodded and stood back up.

"Alright, introductions are over! Tell us who you're looking for!" Keefe exclaimed very loudly.

" Isn't Sophie the 'speaker's of the group? " Percy pointed out.

Keefe's obnoxious smile fell for a moment before reappearing, "Well, she appointed her job to me when she's not around!"

" Um, well, where is she then? " Hazel asked, hesitantly.

This time his smile fell for real, "Honestly, we're not sure. No one really knows. The just never came home on Friday."

"So you haven't seen her either." I muttered, causing Fitz 's eyes to snap towards me. "We were actually looking for her, too."

"Really?" Keefe looked suspicious and surprised, " Why?"

"Well, I needed to talk about... something with her. These guys just followed me." I gestured to the people behind me.

Suddenly, I was on the floor and Fitz was pressing my shoulders into it. "What ideas did you put in her head?" He hissed.

" Wh-what?! "

"The last thing Sophie told anyone besides Keefe was that she was coming here to do a group project with you. She's came back later asking weird questions before she disappeared. So again, I ask, what ideas did you put in her head? "

"I didn't! I swear I didn't do anything! I don't know where she is either!" I cried, before shaking my head at Percy, who's taken out his pen.

" Really? " Fitz have a dark laugh, "I knew we shouldn't have trusted you."

Oooh! Angry Fitz! Sorry if that was really inaccurate, I just liked this aspect of him. Anyways, we aren't babysitting anymore, and I've been writing lots of future chapters, so I will probably be posting more. They next chapter will be the last one from Sophie's PoV, for a while. I'll probably have the other elven perspective be Keefe. What do you think? See you later!
