Chapter 15 - Sophie
A/n: I got more than 100 views in 3 days! You have no idea how much that means to me! Sorry for not posting sooner, we're taking care of one of my old teacher's children for a few days, so I couldn't post yesterday. It'll be fun to see where this goes, since it's already changed from what I originally imagined it being. I hope you still enjoy it!
Also, I was wondering if I should put chapter titles instead of just who each chapter focuses on. What do you think?
PoV: Sophie
As I fell into the Shores of Solace, I was greeted by a sound similar to that of a squealing, 5 year old girl. When I looked up the look of terror on Lord Cassius' face made me grin. Even in all his strict, terrifying glory, he was still scared of my teleporting, which I'd been doing for years.
"What's wrong, Cassius?" I mocked, "Scared of a bit of teleporting? It's not much different than Light Leaping, you know."
Cassius fought off an embarrassed look as he regained his composure, "Ah. Miss Foster. Here to see my worthless son?"
" He's only as worthless as you make him feel. " I pointed out as I walked by, "The more you call him a failure the more he seems like one to you. Next time how about complimenting him?"
I didn't let him reply as I walked inside. I walked down the halls before stopping in front of Keefe's door. "So, " I started, "What did you do to make your father so mad?"
" Foster? " Keefe's muffled voice asked from the other side of the door.
"Who else would it be? Now, I want to know why Cassius is so angry. Please tell me it's something funny."
Keefe chuckled, "Give me a minute, Foster."
I waited as Keefe... did something? I could only hear the sound of Keefe and Ro whisper-shouting about something and something flying across the room.
Suddenly, Keefe's door unlocked. I walked in after making sure Lord Cassius had been locked outside. I knew it wouldn't do much, but it was funny to hear him banging on the door in a vain attempt to be let in.
Keefe 's room was pretty big, even on elf standards. It was about as big as my room, which took up the whole third floor of Havenfield. His bed was in the middle of the room, and that's where Keefe was sitting. Ro, in the other hand, was sitting nearby on a chair, her legs straddling the back of it.
"What's up, Foster?" Keefe asked.
"I just wanted to talk with you about this, " I pulled out the scroll.
Keefe eagerly rubbed his hands together, "Ooh! Is the Mysterious Miss F gonna reveal all her secrets?"
" No. I just wanted to ask you a question. "
"Well, spill then! I'm curious to know what your talking about?" Ro exclaimed before laughing as she heard Cassius start pounding at the door.
I chuckled as I shut Keefe's door and used telekinesis to grab another chair, " Well, this isn't really a light subject, so I need you to answer seriously. "
"Aw, come on, Foster! You know I always take everything seriously! "
"I believe that as much as I believe you love your dad." I replied as I sat down. When Keefe just shrugged, I continued, "Anyways, it's just a personal opinion, " I sighed and looked at my feet, "Who in our group do you think would be willing to skip a mission?"
Keefe looked at me, confused. I expected no less. What I didn't expect was his response , "Foster. What are you planning?"
" What? "
"You're obviously up to something. Spill."
I sighed again, " Honestly, I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you. "
Keefe tore a hand through his hair, "What? Can you not tell Ro or something?"
" Hey! " Ro shouted, but Keefe ignored her.
"I can always tell her to leave, you know."
" Well, yeah, I know, but wouldn't she just listen to our entire conversation? " I pointed out.
"She wouldn't be able to listen if she didn't understand."
" What does that-"
"CAN YOU GUYS TALK IN AN ACTUAL LANGUAGE?!?!" Ro roared, obviously angry.
Suddenly , it clicked. I looked back at Keefe and saw him grinning evilly, "Ro. That is a language. In fact, Foster here used to talk like that when she lived with humans!" Keefe exclaimed , nudging me with his elbow in a very annoying way.
Ro glared at me, "So you're the one who taught him how to annoy his jerk of a dad by talking in a different language?" I nodded nervously until she grinned and laughed , "Nice job, Moonlark! "
"But seriously, " Keefe said in what I now could tell was English, which caused Ro to sigh and grumble about how compliments are stupid, "What are you going to do that makes you think we won't all be joining you?"
I groaned, " Keefe, I'm not planning anything! I'm just trying to figure this out! " I shook the scroll in my hand probably more violent than I needed to.
"Well, what does it say? I can't help if you don't tell me!"
I looked back at my feet, "If you can't read it I'm not sure your supposed to."
"Seriously, Foster? You already came all the way here! Just tell me!"
I felt tears prick my eyes, " I just came for your opinion because I thought I'd get an honest answer. You don't have to start telling like Fitz. "
The room went dead silent. I must have been talking in Enlightened Language because even Ro went quiet. I couldn't hear Cassius at the door anymore; he must be gotten in and was probably listening to their conversation right then. I sighed and started pounding on Keefe's door and transmitting threats to him until he left.
When I looked back at Keefe, I saw him staring at me. Ro seemed upset and happy at the same time, and I got the nagging feeling they made a bet on this.
I was about to apologize when Keefe interrupted, "Did I really sound like Fitz?"
I sighed, "Honestly, you did for a second, there. It's fine. I shouldn't be one to judge. You've had a lot of bad stuff happen over the last few months, and it's not fair for me to expect you to be totally fine with everything. Thanks for talking."
" Foster! " I heard Keefe call as I ran out of his room. As turned a corner, I ran straight into Cassius, who had a smirk on his face.
"Let me guess: he failed you to?" He asked unnaturally happy.
"No, " I mumbled, "I failed him." I didn't even stay to watch his proud grin shatter as I dashed last him and out the door.
I ran as fast as I could, letting myself crash into the void with no intended destination . As I floated in the dark, instead of striking awe like it used to, it just made me feel more trapped. I walked the void to open, unsure of where I would end up.
I didn't care.
I felt stupid. Of course Keefe would never really give me an answer! He knows just as well as I do that no one would ever let me go on a quest without some of them. That's why they all got into this mess in the first place! And that was entirely my fault!
As I fell out of the void I was surprised, to say the least. I had ended up inside a cave. It was similar to the one Dex and I had been kidnapped in a few months after I arrived.
Just thinking about the cave brought back unwanted memories. I had to keep myself from screaming in fright as I remembered that it was a different cave, and that the Neverseen were gone.
As I crawled through the tunnel, looking for a way outside so I could leave, it stopped. The tunnel just stopped. I looked around for another path, but I couldn't find any. When I turned around to go back the way I came, the path was gone there, too.
I started to panic as I spun in a circle. Everywhere around me were the same walls.
I was trapped.
In fear, I sat down and burried my head in my knees. I couldn't keep the tears from leaking down my cheeks as the panic set in. I leaned my head back against the wall and fell straight through it.
I was in so much shock that my body wouldn't move as I laid on the floor. When I finally found the strength to move, I realized I was in a larger room. Not big enough to teleport, but big enough to show me that it was brighter here than in the other room I was trapped in.
As I walked I heard a low chuckle. It echoed all around me so I couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from.
"Wow," a strange voice hissed, " You figured it out sooner than I expected. I'm impressed. "
"Um, not gonna lie, but I'm pretty sure I only figured it out because you ave me a mental breakdown." I admitted, turning in a slow circle.
The voice laughed again, "I know. I also appreciate the lack of questions. It gets annoying after a while. Wouldn't you agree?"
"I don't entirely understand. I mean, sure I sometimes get frustrated with someone who's asked lots of irrelevant questions, but it's not like I'm hate them because of it."
" Ah! There's the love they told me about! You know, for someone treated so unfairly, you treat your 'friends ' with underserved care. "
"Um, yeah, that may just be because I'm responsible for getting them into trouble. Got to return the favor somehow."
This time the laugh seemed even more evil than before, "Well, whether you realize it or not, trouble will always stalk you. When your friends stand between it and you, someone will always get hurt. Trouble can and will always get back up. But will your friends? "
"They won't have to worry about never getting back up because I will do before they do!" I called, hoping to intimidate whoever was talking.
My words had no obvious effect on them, because they just kept talking, "Are you so sure about that, Moonlark? From what I heard, your friends always 'want to help.' That would get them hurt, wouldn't it. I think that you all have the same goals, but you aren't strong enough to try to reach them. When do you learn that love will get you nowhere?
"I doesn't matter anyway. When your friends arrive you'll see how weak you really are. "
Suddenly, the tunnel around me went fuzzy, and I collapsed, the world going black.
Much longer chapter than last time! I felt like I had to make it up to you for not updating for a while. There's a chance I won't update tomorrow, and I apologized that in advance, but I will try to write more from now on.
New villain! ooh! Please tell me who it is and what you think will happen! (Honestly, I didn't know this would happen either! I just started writing and this happened!) I want ideas for who exactly this is. After I do the next chapter, I might switch to the PoV of a different elf. Which one do you want?
Anyway, that should be it for today! See you later!
