Chapter 15: Information - Hazel
A/n: Hey, I'm getting better at updating! Sorry, that was random. Anyways, I've been looking forward to writing these next few chapters since I came back from Camp, and now I finally can get to a somewhat active part of the story. Hope you enjoy!
PoV: Hazel
As Gethen led me away, I couldn't help but feel slightly panicked. What had happened with the girl - Tempest, Gisela had called her - was confusing, and, even as I walked, I couldn't figure out what I had done. I knew Percy and Frank and the others would've wanted me to escape, but something had kept me from doing so.
I also couldn't remember what the girl had told me. I knew it had to be related to the device on my neck, since I hadn't known it was there before, much less what it did. But, somehow, I did. And it worried me. Of course, it didn't help that I was being dragged by a telepath to an unknown location in the woods, but I wasn't even thinking about that at the time.
I also never fought against him. In Camp Jupiter, we were taught to fight, but I just didn't. Why? I had no idea. Whatever Tempest had told me kept me from fighting, even when we were far away from her and it had been a while later.
"Stop here," Gisela instructed as we reached the clearing. Gethen let go of my arm, but, once again , I made no move of escape, "Leave, Gethen." Again, Gethen obliged. Gisela rubbed her hands together, "Alright, this should be fairly simple: where's Annabeth and Leo?"
" You think I know? " I asked, "It's not like I've been keeping in touch with them."
" Well, they told you, didn't they? "
"Nope. They just said they wanted to rescue Sophie.By now, they either have, are about to, or are stuck where you guys were keeping her. I just don't know which one is right."
Gisela tilted her head slightly, "Are you sure? You seemed pretty set on acting like you were dead these last few days. There has to be a reason behind it."
" Is the fact that you guys are pretty terrifying not enough? "
Gisela chuckled, "It would be if you actually didn't know anything." I watched Tempest walked into the clearing, "Maybe Tempest will be able to help."
Tempest slowly walked over to me. She seemed set on only whispering, though I didn't know why. "Hazel," she said softly as she came to a stop before me, "Can you tell us where they are?"
I shook my head, though it felt like the action wasn't entirely my own. Sophie had mentioned mesmers before. Was Tempest a mesmer? Was she controlling me?
I saw Tempest slightly frown. "Tell us." She demanded.
"I can't. I'm sorry, but I can't. "
"So you do know?" Gisela asked.
" No! I have no idea where they are! But even if I did, I can't! "
Gisela frowned, "Tempest, so you mind?" Tempest slowly walked back to Gisela. The two of them spoke in hushed tones, keeping me from hearing.
Tempest then walked over to me again, "Hazel. We need you to tell us where your demigod friends are."
"I already told you I don't know! "
"What about Dex? Do you know where he is? "
"Dex is safe?"
"Considering the fact that you haven't seen him at all yet, I thought you would know that."
"By the time you brought me to the mess hall, I was still unconscious! You think I would know who escaped if I was blacked out during it!?! "
Gisela's frown deepened before she turned her back on Tempest, "Do it."
"Are you sure?" Tempest asked, her voice still quiet, "This may not turn out well."
"I'm sure. Go on ahead. Maybe her screams can convince Jackson to cooperate next time we see him." She gave me an evil grin before walking away.
Tempest gave me a sad smile. "I'm sorry," she said, "it's for your own good. " she lifted her hands for a few seconds before pointing one towards me.
A shock ran through me. Though it was quick, it didn't make it hurt any less. I gave a small cry, but it was abruptly cut off by another shock. The pattern continued, gradually becoming worse and worse. Eventually the ringing in my ears blocked out every other sound, and I couldn't tell if Tempest had stopped or not. It felt like every part of me was being stabbed by sharp pencils, and I couldn't stop shaking.
I don't remember when I fell, but when my vision finally semi cleared and the ringing lessened, I found myself lying on the ground. It still felt like I was burned, and it hurt more now than it had a few seconds before. "I'm sorry, Hazel," Tempest's voice sounded distant, "I really am. "
I couldn't say anything. This time, however, the only thing holding me back was the pain, the thin ring of black around my sight, and my own feeling of betrayal. I knew Tempest said she wanted to help, but it didn't quite feel helpful at the moment.
"Hazel? Can you hear me?" Tempest asked. I could only manage the smallest nod possible, but she still saw it, "Good. Listen, do you know where they are? " I shook my head slightly, "That's right. Do any of you're friends know where they are? " I shook my head again, "Correct again. Did we ever have this conversation? " I shook my head a final time, "Alright, we're good. Just remember this when you're asked to cooperate, okay?"
I nodded, even though every small movement caused more pain and more shaking. There was no strength left in me to push me up. Tempest took a few steps towards me and removed the device from my neck. In a rush, I could sense the metal in the ground again, along with the necklace in my pocket. I watched as she crushed the small gadget in her hand before pulling a new one out from a pocket hidden in her cloak. "Again, I'm really sorry," she said as she placed it on my neck in the same place the last one had been, "But Gisela knows that it would be fried, and she trusts me to make sure her plans are fulfilled correctly. Please, forgive me for this."
She pushed a button on the device, and screamed as another shock ran through me. The black that had rimmed my vision steadily grew until I have in and let the darkness drag me in.
Well, that was an interesting chapter to write. For those of you who are like me and wonder if a certain form of torture was written accurately, I'll tell you now that I actually searched for what it would feel like to be shocked. This was the least gory I could do, soooo.
I'm considering updating again today, but if I don't, I'll update tomorrow. I'm really excited to write these next chapters, even if they might seem really boring to you guys (if they are, I'm sorry). Well, that's all for now! See you later!
