Chapter 1: Welcome! - Percy
A/n: So, chapter 23 of the part 1 is right before this chapter begins, if that makes sense. You don't need to go back and look at what chapter 23 was, it was just the final planning chapter. So, here's the story!
PoV: Percy
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Hazel whispered to me, "I mean, it may have been Annabeth's plan, but bringing two elves into Camp..."
"What's wrong with bringing Fitz and Dex into camp? "I asked, looking over my shoulder at the two elves following behind us, "They don't seem like the kind of people to do something bad."
"I know, it's just... I have a feeling that, if we take them to camp... I don't know what'll happen, but I doubt it'll be good."
" Hazel, give them a chance! They aren't going to fight us, and they already told us who they are and who their fighting. I feel like that's enough to know they're on our side. "
"I know they're on our side, Percy!" Hazel hissed, looking over at the elves like I had, "I'm just worried about what they'll bring to the camp. And I don't mean skills. "
"So you think they'll bring danger to camp? So what? The barrier can keep danger out! It'll be fine, Hazel."
"I hope," she said quietly before looking back ahead of her.
Me too, I thought, my fear for Annabeth setting in again. We didn't know if they actually knew where Sophie was, much less of they could rescue her. The selfish part of me wanted Annabeth to give up and come back to Camp, but I knew she was to determined to give up looking for Sophie.
As we neared Camp, I heard Dex and Fitz freeze. "You guys good?" I asked, turning to face them.
" Uh... yeah? " Dex said it like it was a question, "It's just... Can we get into the Camp?"
"What makes you think you can't ?" Hazel asked.
"Well, it just looks a lot like one of the Neverseen's force fields is around the Camp. You can't pass through those."
"It'll be fine. I, Percy Jackson, grant Dex Dizznee and Fitz Vacker passage into Camp Half Blood!"
Hazel and I stepped in, but Fitz and Dex stayed behind, staring into nothing as if they were reliving a memory. "Um, Dex? Fitz?" Hazel asked, snapping them out of their memories, " You good? " Hesitantly, they both nodded, "Good. Let's go!"
Slowly, Dex walked in, followed by Fitz, both of them flinching as they went through. When they both crossed unscathed, they relaxed, and Dex even smiled. I felt myself smile in amusement at their relief before I motioned for them to follow me.
We led them to the Big House. As we walked, Hazel explained what everything was, smiling as they looked around. From how the elves described their homes, the camp was little more than a shed, but they still seemed to like it. It was no surprise. Camp Half Blood was really homey.
As we walked into the Big House, we found Chiron and Mr. D playing pool together. "Hey Chiron! Mr.D!" Hazel exclaimed.
"What do you need?" Chiron asked.
"Well, um, it's kind of a long story, but in a nutshell, there might be some evil people attacking Camp Half Blood soon." I stated plainly.
Mr. D suddenly got really. .. Stiff? Agitated? "Wait, evil people might attack Camp Half Blood?!" He exclaimed frantically, "Who?!"
" Um, some weird people called... Uh... The... Can't see?" I tried
"Neverseen," Dex corrected .
"Right! Neverseen!"
Mr D froze, his eyes glued on me. I was about to ask why when he looked at Dex and Fitz, "Who are these people?"
" Um, this is Dex and this is Fitz, " Hazel quickly introduced, "Their friend helped warn us."
Chiron nodded in understanding, "I see. And, if I may ask, do you know where Annabeth and Leo are? I haven't seen them around Camp lately. "
"They're off trying to rescue the person who warned us so they can fulfill the prophecy, since she's an important part, " I explained.
Chiron nodded again, "So, Annabeth knows of this attack?" He frowned when we nodded, " Well, will she come back? "
"Why?" Hazel asked, " I mean, she probably would, but that's not important. "
Mr D sighed, "So she really didn't let anyone else read it."
"Um, does anyone care to explain?" Dex asked.
"The scroll. No one else read the scroll ." Chiron explained.
"Well, yeah, no one besides Sophie, since she already had one."
" We know, Deck, " Mr D exclaimed in a grouchy tone, "Just let us think!"
The look on Dex's face made me feel really bad. Annabeth had told me about how Sophie said Dex felt a bit underappreciated and made gadgets to help his friends so they'd remember about him. Being rejected like that would feel awful.
"Come on," I said putting my hand on his shoulder, "You heard them, they want no help from the people who actually gave them the information. Let's go. We can show you the rest of the camp. " I lowered my voice, "Don't worry about Mr D. He can be like that sometimes. And, between you and me, he calls me Peter Johnson all the time."
Dex smiled at that and I led him out of the building, with Hazel and Fitz following behind me. We walked around Camp Half Blood, and I showed them everything Hazel hadn't. I knew I wasn't the best tour guide, but Dex seemed to get it. He understood what it was like to know you're important, but also feeling like you were just a burden to everyone. And I respected that.
Soon, it was evening, and all the campers were around the fire. Hazel sat with Frank and the others, but I was at the back of the fire with Dex and Fitz. Dex seemed to have had a bad experience with fire, so he constantly was asking for reminders that I could put it out if I needed to. It worried me, but also made me curious. I knew he had limits to who he told what, but I wanted to know what he had been through. I mean, I'd been through a lot, too, so maybe I could help.
"Um, Percy?" Fitz asked.
" what's up? "
"Well, you showed us all the cabins, right? "
"Yeah. You guys could probably stay in the Hermes Cabin if you like. Otherwise, you could probably go to the Aphrodite cabin, Fitz. And maybe Hephestus cabin for Dex."
"Okay, that's great and all, but is it okay if we go to different ones? " Fitz asked slowly.
"Uh, well, I guess you'd have to ask Chiron about it. Why?"
Dex finally took his eyes off the fire, "Well, nothing against the Hermes kids, but they're kind of... Prying. " he said carefully, "and the kids in Hephestus cabin may ask me about the stuff I make. If we want to keep elves a secret, we can't have that. "
"Then there's the Aphrodite cabin, " Fitz sighed, "Don't get me wrong, they live up to their mother's expectations, but they can be... stuck up at times."
"Says you, Wonder Boy! " Dex said, rolling his eyes.
Fitz 's face paled, "I thought you were done calling me that!"
"I'll never be done calling you that! "
I laughed, "Fitz, you worry too much! Wonder Boy isn't half as bad as the nickname my girlfriend have me! "
"Which was...?" Dex asked, a smile growing on his face.
" She calls me Seaweed Brain. "
Dex laughed and Fitz had to try very hard to hide his smile, which he failed to do. "Really?" Dex gasped, "What do you call her?"
"Wise Girl."
Fitz nodded in understanding as Dex chuckled, "So you're Annabeth's boyfriend." Fitz clarified .
"How'd you know?" I asked.
"Well, you've called Annabeth Wise Girl before. How do your godly parents feel about that? Don't they, like, hate each other? "
I nodded, "yeah, they don't really like it, but we don't care. I mean, my father hates all of Athena's children, but at least Annabeth isn't a smart alek like the others. "
" Wait, " Dex inturrupted, "criticising their children doesn't make the gods angry, does it? Because we really don't need any more bad things happening!"
I laughed, " Don't worry. They only get mad if you criticize the gods themself. Come on. It's getting late. let's go talk to Chiron about where you're staying. I get the feeling you won't be here for long. "
finally got Chapter 1 done! I'm super excited to keep writing this story, and I can't wait to see how you all like it. I'm considering writing another chapter today and skipping tomorrows, but I haven't decided yet. ANyways, thanks for reading! I'll see you all soon!
