Chapter 14- Your Fault
(~Honey's POV + Time Skip~)
I stand in judgment hall. Sweat pours down my skull as I try to catch my breath. I lost sight of them: the kid. Bones of all types litter the hall. Some have broken into the surrounding areas and pillars whereas others have been cut in half. It makes it difficult to sense movement due to the large amount of shadows they can hide in.
My eye socket and hands begin to burn into themselves due to my prolonged use of magic. I can feel a headache coming on.
'I can't do this forever. Where are they?'
"Long time since I've seen ya, Comedian. I've gotta admit, seeing you back almost brings tears to my eyes. I haven't had a good run at all since you decided to kick the bucket." Their voice echoes into laughter. I turn myself around immediately at the sound. I see a sliver of fabric disappear behind a nearby pillar. I summon a blaster at my side and it fires immediately. The pillar comes crumbling down but their laughter then came from another area of the room. I missed.
I hiss a breath through my teeth. "Come out, kid! Let's make this quick!" I shout angrily. Tearing this place apart brick by brick is nothing but a waste of magic.
"Tell me, Papyrus... How are you liking your family?~ It's been quite fun watching you all."
'WaTChIng?!'
No, it's not possible. I call their bluff, "You are nothing without Chara and they haven't fallen. Even then, they will never let you-" "Oh but I beg to differ, skeleton. Unlike you, I learned new tricks! We're playing a new game~ And I will take great pleasure in taking away the unnecessary pawns.. o n e b y o n e..."
"Papyrus?"
I flinch and turn around. Y/N looks at me in both fear and confusion. She's out in the open. She's too vulnerable!
'What is she doing here?!!!'
I begin running towards her. I can save her. I still have time. "Y/N!!!" I reach out to her. I'm so close. Two eyes appear in the shadows behind her, one colored orange and the other red. A crack forms in the floor below her. I go to scream for her to move but I'm too late. A bone surrounded by flames shot up from the ground. There's a sickening crack as the end of it shot through her chest, absolutely destroying her ribcage. Some of the blood sprays onto my sleeve. My magic ignites tenfold.
Y/N stands there in shock, staring at me. My hope dies as I watch the life drain from her eyes. "P-Pap..." 'That magic- It wasn't mine. Y/N! Please- It wASn'T Me!" I say frantically and on the verge of tears. Once I reach her, I cup both hands around her cheeks. "Y/N, you have to stay with me. PLeAse!" I beg her. Her arms limply fall by her side. Her (s/c) soul hovers in front of her, shaking momentarily before snapping in half. "Awww, you killed her. All of this is your fault."
(~Your POV~)
"Good f-freaking grief- PAP! WAkE UP!" I shout. I had rushed in as soon as I could. He won't stop screaming. He's stuck in a nightmare he can't control. I grab his arm firmly. "Pap- WOAH-" Honey suddenly sits up in bed without warning, screaming again. Tears roll down his face as one of his eye sockets sparks with flames of orange. His gaze locks onto me and I come to realize that I shouldn't be this close.
'Ah heck-'
"Papyrus, it's m-m-me!" As expected, he doesn't seem to listen in his crazed state. His blaster summons at his side with magic forming in its mouth.
I look to his blaster, commanding in a firm voice, "SHUT IT." His blaster looks at me with wide eyes and closes its jaws with a loud snap. I feel bad when it soon starts to huff out some smoke. Papyrus' skull turned so slowly to his blaster with a darkened but still childish look of betrayal, I nearly lost my composure.
'Y/N, this is serious.'
Our original blaster son recognizes me and rubs itself into my side like an excited puppy. I baby talk to it as I gently scratch its horns, "My s-sweet baby~ How I-I-I missed you. I'm so s-sorry w-w-we had to meet again l-like this. Daddy's n-not thinking straight. No he's not~" "WhAt DiD you just- WhAt ArE YoU- Y/N?!!!" Honey yells in complete disarray.
"Are y-you o-okay? You're l-lucky you didn't wake t-the others with y-your screaming." I ask him in all seriousness. Meanwhile, I continue to stroke his blaster's muzzle. It closes its eyes in contentment and lets out a loud croon. Honey just stares at it, and then at me, and then back at it again. I snap my fingers to get his attention, "Pap."
"I... I'm fine." He looks to the side of us. I arch an eyebrow at him. I'm not convinced at all. "Reset nightmares?" Honey's eye sockets go dark immediately. His voice is low as he growls, "How do you know about those?" "P-Papyrus, I-I-I was your freaking w-wife. I k-know b-because you eventually t-t-told me things. W-Whatever I c-couldn't get out of you, I bribed out of Muffet."
'That's besides the point.'
(~Honey's POV~)
I'm still trying to stop my soul from the constant racing. Y/N is safe. "I.. I'm worried about you." She states. I sigh and look down at the blanket in my lap. ".. Sure." I say, unconvinced. A long silence hangs over the room. I'd expect Y/N to eventually get mad and leave again.
Instead, she crawls onto my mattress. My soul skips a beat. "Y/N?!" I already feel the blush spreading across my face. My blaster disappears. I barely have the thought to concentrate on my magic when all I can focus on is Y/N. She sits beside me and leans her back against the wall. She turns her head to me and holds her hand out. "Give m-me your hand, P-Pap."
'Is this some sort of trick?'
I can't say no. I shakily wrap my hand with hers. She sighs a breath of relief as she stares forward. Things become quiet again. "Y/N... I'm scared." I whisper. I try to fight another wave of tears but ultimately fail.
'I can't lose my family again.'
"It's g-going t-to be alright, Honey. T-T-These dreams? They can't h-hurt you and I-I'll be right here." Her hand firmly holds onto mine. We're whispering back and forth to each other at this point. It isn't long before I look down to her hands. A beautiful wedding band is on one of her fingers.
'How did I not notice that before?'
"You still wear your ring." I can't tell whether I meant it as a question or a statement. Y/N has her eyes closed now as she relaxes her head against the wall. Though she does hum in agreement with me. She is listening.
'She must be exhausted. She hasn't slept well in days. From what she's told me, headaches and anxiety have been the main cause of it.'
This is the closest I've even gotten to her without getting snapped at. My breath shudders and I apologize to her, "I'm sorry, for all of it. I want to remember." "Don't c-c-cry, Pap." Y/N leans over and nuzzles her face into my cheek. I fight every ounce of my soul telling me to squeeze her as tightly as I can. I shouldn't let her get this close. The closer she gets, the harder it will be to let go. I'm so afraid that she'll get hurt. Still, I accept it all. Having her affection is like holding onto a lifeline in the middle of the harsh ocean. I need it.
Y/N opens her eyes again and looks to me with a saddened expression. I can feel it. She wants to say something but won't. "P-Papyrus, it's not y-y-your fault." A whole wave of emotions wash over me all at once. I thought they would never understood how much pressure I've been putting on myself. My entire family is risking their lives in the underground and I'm the only one who can't remember them. Hurting Y/N, taking her joy, hurt the most. Now here she is, assuring me the opposite of what I convinced myself.
Before I could answer her, Y/N starts to shift her body, "I should go." I squeeze her hand quicker than I would for a bottle of honey. "Please, Y/N. Don't." She looks to me, her cheeks turning a tint redder. "If you're not scared or tired of me, then please, stay. I want you to." My eyes briefly catch the written journal laying on the floor beside my mattress. I pick it up with my free hand and hold it up for her to see.
She gives me a look of grief, recognizing it immediately as the journal I wrote for her. "Honey.." "I'm a really good reader. Besides, we're both going to be up for a while, right?" She nods and I chuckle. I open up the book. No later than that, I feel Y/N seated against my side again. When Y/N and I reflexively turn to each other, our faces are only a few inches apart. We stare into each other's eyes for a moment. "Um.." Y/N's face turns completely red and she quickly turns her face away. I can feel my heart pounding.
'She's even more beautiful up close.'
I have to pry myself to look away. She's already embarrassed anyway. I take a moment to catch my breath. No doubt, my cheeks are glowing orange by this point. All I can do is ignore it. I start from page one of the journal. Then, I just start reading it to her.
