"Ro!" A firm shake brought Rohit out of his thoughts. He looked up and found Virat looking at him with worry itching on his face.
"Huh Vi. What happened?" Rohit asked startled.
"I should be asking you that. I have been calling you for the past few minutes but you, you were lost somewhere. I even thought you were sleeping with your eyes open." Virat said looking at him with a frown.
"I was not sleeping." Rohit gritted out, looking quite offended by Vi's choice of words.
"Yeah, yeah. Anyway what were you thinking about, Ro? You seem quite stressed out. Is everything fine?" Virat asked concern clouding his face.
"It's nothing, Vi. Everything is fine. I'm just tired." Rohit tried to mask the sadness behind his smile. But who was he trying to fool?
"Really?" Virat looked at him with raised eye brow making Rohit squirm in his place.
"It's nothing Vi. I'm just being silly. Leave it." Rohit sighed looking down.
"Oh please, Ro. Whatever it is, it is not silly and moreover if it is related to you then it is very much important for me. Tell me, Ro. I can help you." Virat said sitting beside Rohit.
Rohit sighed before opening up to Vi about the thoughts that were troubling him for the past few days.
"Fine. For the past few days, I'm having weird dreams, well not exactly dreams more like nightmares. Each time I close my eyes I see Ritika and Sammy crying, begging me to come back to them, not to leave them. They looked so sad and depressed but what more surprising was, I was no where in the whole dream, it was like I'm not with them, like I have vanished. I don't know what is happening, Vi. What does this dreams mean but it makes me anxious for them. It makes me fear for their future. If one day something happens to me what will Ritika and Sammy do? Who will they have? How will their lives move on after me? I don't know and it's killing me." Rohit said looking at Vi and his voice was choked with emotion.
"Oh Ro!" Virat pulled Rohit into a comforting hug, letting the latter calm down.
"Nightmares ends in a few minutes, Ro and that's how you know, they're nightmares. This bad dreams are ghosts of our fears and worries, haunting us while we sleep. You love Ritz and Sammy a lot and that love generates a fear in your heart, the fear of losing them and this fear is thus converted into painful nightmares. And impart this in your brain that nothing will happen to you till I'm there. I won't let anything happen to you, Ritika nor sammy. So don't stress about it, Ro." Virat comforted him.
"Still, if something happens to me, please take care of Ritika and Sammy, Vi. You are one of the few people whom I can trust to take care of them. Please never abandon them, Vi." The pleading look in Rohit's eyes broke his heart.
"Ro listen carefully Ritika and Sammy will always have me. I will never leave them alone. If you don't remember let me remind you this, Ritz was my sister first, then only she became your wife. How can you even imagine I will abandon her and cute little niece? Moreover Ritika and Sammy will always have Anushka, Mahi Bhai, Yuvi paa, and the entire ICT family with them. They will never be alone. Now stop thinking such nonsense and smile you idiot." Vi snickered at the last sentence making Ro glare at him.
"I'm not an idiot, you are the idiot." Ro yelled back throwing the pillow, kept on bed, at his at his best friend.
"You panda, how dare you throw a pillow at me."
And soon the room was filled with screams and laughter, the seriousness long forgotten.
"Cheeku! Cheeku!" Mahi Bhai's jerked Virat out of the bitter sweet memory.
A memory that was haunting him since the moment he saw his Ro, on the hospital bed, all plastered up.
He looked up and found Bhai looking at him with a worried expression.
"Ha Bhai. What happened?" Virat asked, getting up.
"I have been calling you for few minutes, Vi. Are you alright, Vi? You seem quite lost." Mahi asked looking at his kiddo with concern.
"I'm fine Bhai. I was just thinking about this sleeping panda. He has the habit of forgetting his stuffs but never in my wildest dreams had I thought that one day he would end up forgetting us also." Virat smiled bitterly looking at his sleeping best friend.
Some conversations haunts us when they are brought back alive in the absence of the one you shared those laughs with.
Mahi felt his heart clench at Virat's words. For the first time in his life he didn't know how to comfort his kiddo. He didn't know what kind of comforting words to say. And even if he try, he knew there is no amount of words could pacify nor heal his Cheeku of the wounds caused by Ro's accident.
And moreover he knew, this was no time for ease and comfort. It is time to dare and endure. They have to fight together for Ro, for everything they valued and cherished in the past 14 years.
"Doctor has send for us, cheeku. He wants to discuss about Ro's medical report." Mahi bhai respond instead of replying to Virat's words.
"Where is Ritika, Bhai?" Virat asked suddenly, looking at the empty bed, which was occupied by Ritika few minutes back.
"I have sent her back home with Sakshi. Sammy was asking for her and Ro, so she had to leave, reluctantly. She will come back in the afternoon with Sammy." Mahi Bhai informed him as they made their way towards the doctor's cabin.
"Oh." Virat nodded understandingly.
Mahi knocked on the door and waited for a few seconds before a come in came from inside. Pushing the door they made their way inside the doctor's cabin.
"Ah! Mr Dhoni and Mr Kohli. I was waiting for you guys. Please take a seat." The doctor said leaning against his chair.
"Doctor.......Rohit......he.....he will be okay, right..." Mahi trailed off, not knowing how to confront the pain.
"Let me tell you this Mr Dhoni, Mr Sharma is a very lucky man. The injury on his head was quite deep and life threatening. Patients with similar case as Mr Sharma has either lost their lives or have slipped into comas." Virat gulped hearing the Doctor's words.
Virat was silent, surprised as much by his information as he was by the turning of his stomach at the thought of losing his Ro. Mahi's situation was no different. The panic and fear were quite evident in his eyes. Captain cool looked aged all of a sudden.
"But the memory loss," The doctor continued, "that part was quite unexpected. At first I thought it was concussion due to the hit but unfortunately it's not. He has completely lost the memories of the past 14 years."
"Doctor, will he be able to recover those memories or are they lost forever?" Mahi bhai asked, his voice cracking at the last part.
"The chances that he might never recover those memories are very less taking in consideration that the patient is quite young, the memories can be reversed. Provide him is proper medication, good care and most importantly your support so that he can have a peaceful life even if he never recovers those memories." The doctor smiled softly.
"So the chances are 50-50?" Virat queried, almost afraid.
"You cannot exactly say 50-50, the chances of recovery are high considering his age, physical as well as mental health prior the accident. I won't say he will regain his memories soon because it will be like giving you guys false hope. The wound in his head is still fresh and any kind of pressure can cause total damage to his brain. It might take him a month, a year or many more to regain those memories but he will surely regain it one day. And as I have mentioned earlier, proper medication, care and support will provide him the comfort he need for his recovery." Virat sighed in relief hearing the doctor's words.
"Thank you doctor." Thanking the doctor Mahi and Virat walked out of the cabin.
Virat made his way towards Ro's room plagued with various thoughts in his mind. Negative as well as positive. Till yesterday he had Rohit with him as his best friend, his brother, his strength and his constant support but today the same strength has sucked him off his senses. The same strength has left his weak.
And all of a sudden he felt really tired. Like the world had drained him for everything that he had. All those beautiful memories he had shared with Ro flashed before his eyes, making them burn with unshed tears.
The pain and the agony that teared in though his heart didn't matter to him because his main priority now is Rohit.
'So what if Rohit forgot those memories?' Virat muttered to himself. 'I'm here right. I will make that lazy panda regain all those beautiful memories, he has decided to forget. Stupid idiotic panda'
