Chapter Twenty
We were out in the forest, ready to start training. What was he going to teach us in such a short period of time?
"Training starts now!" Kakashi states. "First we'll start with a review on chakra." I internally groaned. Yes, yes, I know all this already! Can't we just get started? "Chakra is the ninjas basic source of power. Understanding Chakra is essential."
"We know that." Sasuke states boredly.
"He's right." Naruto agrees. Gasp! Naruto and Sasuke... getting along? "A long time ago we learned about, uh, catra." Face palm.
"Chakra. Go ahead Sakura, explain." Sakura explains, all of which I drown out. It mostly consisted of what I already knew and her insulting Naruto and swooning over Sasuke.
"You're right on all points, Sakura," Kakashi complimented, "Iruka-sensei really did have some excellent students."
"Ha!" Sakura preened under his attention. Well, eff you too, Sakura. I took a deep breath and let it out, trying to calm myself. I buried my emotions and gave her a closed eyed smile.
"What's with all these explanations?!? Isn't the point to learn the jutsu?" Naruto asked.
"Naruto's right for once," Sasuke concurred. "We're already using chakra energy in our jutsu."
"NO! You haven't mastered this power, you've barely scratched the surface of it."
"What do you mean!?!" Naruto shouted. I wish he would shut up and let sensei explain.
"Calm down and listen. It's just like Sakura said. You have to draw on physical and spiritual energy and then combine them within yourself." He went on with another lengthy explanation to, which I actually listened to. Because, unlike Sakura, Sensei might have something to say that's worth listening to.
"You have to train so hard that controlling you chakra becomes second Nature. You have to be ready to put your life on the line." He tried to scare us.
"But... what do we have to do?" Sakura asked.
"Haha. Climb a tree." He said, laughing. I resisted rolling my eyes. Or, you could just fly to the top of the tree.
"Climb a tree?" They all asked in unison. It was kind of scary.
"Yes. That's what I said. But there's one rule... No hands." He teased. I frowned. As I said, you could just fly to the top. I sighed. But this will help me control my chakra, so I'm all for it.
"What? You're kidding." Sakura said.
"Am I?" Kakahsi questioned, then proceeded to climb a tree. Once he was at the top, he turned to us. "Well, you get the idea. Focus your chakra to the soles of you're feet, and use it to connect to the tree." He threw kunais at each of us. "Mark how high you get in each tree. Good luck." He smirks slightly.
I grabbed the kunai. I would be able to do this. I made the hand sign, concentrating. I felt everyone run at a tree, but didn't open my eyes. I couldn't get the balance of physical and spiritual chakra right for some reason.
Naruto used to little chakra, Sasuke used to much. Sakura used the right amount, but didn't have enough to go very far. I sighed and sat down. Why wasn't I able to draw on my chakra correctly. After a couple of minutes, I hear footsteps near me.
"Having trouble?" Kakashi asked. I glared up at him, expecting him to make fun of me like he did to Sasuke and Naruto. But he had a kind expression on his face, so I just sighed and nodded, releasing my hand sign. "What seems to be the problem?" He asked.
I rubbed my forehead. "I don't know why I can't do this. I used to be really good at controlling my chakra. Now it's like I can't even draw on it! The physical chakra comes easy, but the spiritual... It's almost like it's stuck inside me!"
He nodded and stood up. "Follow me." He intoned. I stood, following him away from the others. By the time I couldn't hear my teammates yells despite my advance hearing, we arrived at a small pond. "Sit." He said. I did.
"Now, one of the main reasons you can't draw on you spiritual energy right now is because you don't have your emotions under control." I open my mouth to argue, but he hold up a hand. "You think you control your emotions by burying them deep inside, but really they just grow stronger. You don't come to terms with them, you hide from them." He explains.
"So what do you want me to do?" I ask, almost desperately.
"I want you to sit here and think. Think of every person and the emotions you have of them. Think of emotions you've been having or things you don't like. Scream, cry, punch a tree... just let them out, come to terms with them, until you're at peace with yourself. I won't ever come hear, nor will your teammates. This is your 'alone' space." He says. I nod.
Just before he leaves, I grab his pant leg. "Just a warning, Kakashi-sensei," I let out a small chuckle, "This forest might be leveled by the time I'm done."
He nods. "Whatever it takes." He told me, then left.
I rubbed my forehead. I'd always been bad with emotions. I guess I'll start with writing a song. That was currently my only outlet for my emotions. I grabbed my pencil and started writing. An hour later I was finished. I sigh and begin to sing.
The lights go out all around me
One last candle to keep out the night
And then the darkness surrounds me
I know I'm alive but I feel like I've died
And all that's left is to accept that it's over
My dreams ran like sand through the fists that I made
I try to keep warm but I just grow colder
I feel like I'm slipping away
After all this has passed, I still will remain
After I've cried my last, there'll be beauty from pain
Though it won't be today, someday I'll hope again
And there'll be beauty from pain
You will bring beauty from my pain
My whole world is the pain inside me
The best I can do is just get through the day
When life before is only a memory
I'll wonder why God lets me walk through this place
And though I can't understand why this happened
I know that I will when I look back someday
And see how you've brought beauty from ashes
And made me as gold purified through these flames
After all this has passed, I still will remain
After I've cried my last, there'll be beauty from pain
Though it won't be today, someday I'll hope again
And there'll be beauty from pain
You will bring beauty from my pain
Here I am at the end of me (at the end of me)
Tryin' to hold to what I can't see (to what I can't see)
I forgot how to hope
This night's been so long
I cling to Your promise
There will be a dawn
After all this has passed, I still will remain
After I've cried my last, there'll be beauty from pain
Though it won't be today, someday I'll hope again
And there'll be beauty from pain
You will bring beauty from my pain
By the end of it a few tears have slipped down my face. Then it all just... explodes. A scream rips its way out of me and I turn to a tree and punch it. It falls down, bringing another with it. But that's not enough for me.
I sprint out towards the pond, jumping before I get to the water. I whip out my wings, pumping hard to gain altitude. I slam into a tree by accident, and it fell down. I needed to escape, I was a coiled spring about to release. But I finally get into the air, panting hard.
I turn and point my shoulder away from my team, away from Tazuna's, away from Konoha. I head towards the ocean, trees and rooftops blurring beneath me. Wait, I wasn't flying fast enough for things to blur! I touch my cheeks, which were soaked. I sob gets caught in my throat. I start flying as fast as I can, reaching speeds of 300 mph.
I clench my fists, my teeth, my whole body tense as I fly at super speed. A strangled scream erupts from me, tears blinded me as the noise rips my throat. Tears pour down my faces, sobs make their way out. I was hysterical.
I close my wings, making a clean dive into the ocean, and press my wings tight against my back once I'm in the water. The water closes around me, cutting off all noise, including my choked sobs as I'm forced to hold my breath. I allow myself too sink, eyes closed as I slowly calm myself. The light slowly leaves as I continue to sink. I shoot my eyes open after about two minutes to see dark dark blue waters surrounding me, the wavery light up above.
It's kind of peaceful, just drifting down ward, ever downward. I wish I could stay here forever. It's been about three minutes. I know I can hold my breath for five minutes, but it was about time I headed up.
I begin swimming. It's a lot harder to make your way up from a dark pit then it is to fall into it. You almost become trapped. After about a hundred feet my lungs start to burn for air. How far did I sink? I'm up in lighter water now, just swimming, not even seeing how far to the surface I am.
I am desperate for air now. I look up. Only ten more feet. I can do that. I gather myself, then swim as hard as I could towards the surface. I needed to burst from the water into the air if I wanted to be able to take off.
I burst out of the water, thrusting my wings downward simultaneously. I gulp air, trying to get lift off at the same time. I manage to lurch into the air, still breathing hard. I fly almost as though I'm drunk for a bit, but finally regain my breath, and my normal flight pattern.
I swoop down low towards the sea, up towards the sky, making the most of this freedom. I'm over the Forest, trying to find where Kakshi sensei left me. I find it from the clearing I created from smashing trees.I land softly in the clearing, looking around.
I take a deep breath, recalling things that had hurt me. Sakura, refusing to protect me. My team, quitting because I was on it. Villagers, looking at me as though I was a disease. Little offhand comments that nearly destroyed me. I let go of the breath I was holding and accepted them all.
I accepted that they hurt me. I accepted that they effect me. I accepted that they will hurt me again. I accepted that I can't stop them from happening. I accepted that I had allowed them to shape me. I accepted that I couldn't change that. I accepted everything.
I turned around, ready to go back to my teammates. It was night time already. But every days a new day, a new life. And I was going to make the most of it.
