Chapter 5
(Timeskip-3 days later)
~Jessie's P.O.V.~
"Please pick up, please pick up..." I muttered as my vision lacrima vibrated, waiting for the person I was calling to answer. I sighed when the screen flashed "unavailable."
"He still not picking up?" Lexi asked sadly, patting my back soothingly. I shook my head and sighed dejectedly. Lexi had tried various ways to cheer me up, but they all failed.
Mark was settling into Fairy Tail, and was doing a pretty good job interacting with all the guild members (even sparring with Erza, Gray, and Natsu) but still refused to join it.
"I don't know why he isn't picking up..." I sighed, resting my chin on the palm of my hand.
"Well, maybe he's busy? He is a Guild Master.." suggested Lexi.
"No, I think he's just mad.." I murmured with despondency. I wish I could tell him that it was a misunderstanding, but Sting just won't pick up...
"Well, I know what would cheer you up!" Lexi beamed and slammed her paw on my back. I didn't even flinch, and instead sighed.
"Hey Jessie, let's go on a job!" Natsu yelled out of nowhere when he noticed me sitting at the bar.
"Right on time," smirked Lexi.
"No thanks Natsu," I answered.
"Oh come on, I'm sure Sting'll come around, but you can't act depressed forever!" Natsu walked up to me. By now, everyone in the guild knew about what happened and there were mutters of "hang in there" and "don't worry he'll come around" every once in a while.
"Please Jessie?" begged Lexi. I glanced over to her and saw her pout her lips and give me huge kitty eyes. I thinly smiled at her attempt and petted her soft fur.
"Alright, give me five minutes?" I grinned.
"Yay!" cheered Natsu and Lexi at the same time before leaving to go get the others. I grinned. What am I going to do without these idiots? I checked my magic space to make sure I had everything for a journey and took out my diary and scribbled an important note for when I come back. As soon as I finished, Lexi was calling for me.
"Come on Jessie, we're ready!" shouted Lexi. I smiled.
"Coming!" I yelled back and ran towards the big luggage that Erza always brought.
~Sting's P.O.V.~
The vision lacrima on my desk vibrated for the millionth time, today. "Maybe you should answer it Sting-kun.." suggested Lector, who was right beside me.
"I'm working right now Lector, I don't have time for calls.." I said as I continued working on the huge pile of papers on my desk.
"But maybe Jessie wants to straighten things out?" he asked, smiling nervously.
"No, Lector," I glared at him. he flinched with my gaze and nodded.
"O-okay.." he whispered, slowly backing away and out of the room. I looked at him with guilt before the door closed behind him. I felt really bad for talking to him like that, but I have been in a bad mood lately. Maybe I should actually talk to Jessie.. I thought to myself. I shook my head after a couple seconds. No, she's probably better without me... I dejectedly sighed to myself and continued working on the guild paperwork.
~Jessie's P.O.V.~
"Um, remind me what job this is?" I asked a couple minutes after we set out. Team Natsu, Lexi, and I were now walking on a path on a plain field in the middle of nowhere.
"It says we need to capture some sort of magic stealing mage," answered Erza.
"Oh."
"Yeah, and the reward is 1,000,000 jewels!" Natsu smirked greedily.
"O-one million?!" I said in surprise. That was a lot for a non-S class quest..
"Yup! With that kind of money, we'll be swimming in fishes!" said Happy with his mouth watering.
"Right.."
"Well, in any case we're lost aren't we?" Lexi raised her eyebrow. I looked up to see a huge and thick forest in front of us.
"This is where the mage is hiding..?" I asked, doubting that anyone actually lived in there.
"Well, this is where the job said he or she is hiding," said Lucy as she looked at the paper.
"Okay, let's split up. That way we can find him faster," Erza commanded. We all nodded and separated. Lexi and I went right while Natsu and Happy went left and Erza, Lucy, and Gray went straight.
~Lexi's P.O.V.~
"This forest is scary.." I quivered as we went further into it.
"Stop being such a scaredy-cat," Jessie rolled her eyes. "It's just a forest."
"Yeah, but it has a creepy feel to it.." I shuddered.
"Now you're just being silly," Jessie scoffed.
"If you say so..." I murmured. We walked a couple more seconds before Jessie yelped all of a sudden. My first reaction was a giggle.
"See, I told--" I stopped talking when I saw a black whip coiled around Jessie's wrist.
"What the--?!" Jessie couldn't finish because she was pulled deeper into the forest with lightning speed.
"Jessie!" I yelled. My wings sprouted and I flew as fast as I could towards the direction Jessie was pulled. "Jessie, where are you?!" I screamed out into the open, I couldn't hear anything, and judging by the speed she had been going, I wasn't sure if I ever was going to get a response.
"KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"
As soon as I heard Jessie's deafening scream, I went towards it with a speed I didn't know I could achieve.
"JESSIE I'M COMING!!!"
