Chapter 20

~Jessie's P.O.V.~

I awaited for Sting to slice the dagger through my heart, but after a couple seconds, nothing happened.  I opened my eyes slightly to see the dagger shakily on my chest.  I hesitantly looked up to see Sting sweating.  His hand was obviously shaking, as if he was trying to make it go through me, but something was stopping him.  His wicked smirk turned to one of frustration.  "Why..." he growled under his breath, but I could hear him.  "Why won't my hand move?"  My eyes widened when I saw a small but sort of noticeable puncture on his neck.  Of course, he's under a spell!  I thought to myself, and a tiny smile creeped onto my lips.  And he's fighting it....for me.

"Don't smile!" he scowled.  Suddenly, a chill went down my spine and I sensed a dark presence.

"Stop hesitating and kill her," a voice hissed.  It was so soft that I barely could hear it even with my Dragon Slayer hearing.  I looked at Sting when his hand stopped shaking.  His eyes were no longer dragon slits and were just a pure dull dark blue.  Instead of twisted frustration written on his face, it turned emotionless.

"Sting?" I whispered, but he didn't answer me.  Instead he lifted the dagger once more with no sign of hesitation.  I looked closed my eyes and looked away.  After a couple seconds, though, I heard the dagger clatter onto the floor.  I open my eyes once again to see Rogue and Yukino behind Sting, pinning his arms so that he couldn't move them.  Rogue got his right arm while Yukino had the other.

"Now Jessie-san!!" Yukino yelled.  After a moment of shock, I got up and scrambled to the nightstand.  I then opened its contents and started searching for the medicine and needle.

"HURRY UP JESSIE!!" Rogue shouted.  At this point, they had managed to push him to the wall, but he was fighting back, and I could tell that they were starting to lose their grip on him.  I searched frantically, and finally found the plastic bottle and sharp needle.  I shakily insert the sleeping medicine into the syringe.

"Got it!  Just hold him still for me!" I yelled, holding the syringe.  They nodded and tightened their grip.  I quickly walked over to Sting.  I looked into his anger filled eyes.  For a second he looked at me, and I swear I could see a flash of guilt sweep through his dull eyes.  Not wanting to look anymore, I pierced the skin of his right shoulder and slowly but steadily pushed the lever on the needle down, inserting the liquid.  When all of it was inserted, I carefully took it out.  Rogue and Yukino let go of him, knowing that he wouldn't fight back anymore.  When I looked at him again, his eye turned back to normal.

"J-Jessie..." he whispered before passing out and falling into my arms.

"Sting.." I murmured sadly.  My eyes then widened when I realized I could barely feel any magic power from him.  "Sting!" I said a bit louder, concern dripping in my voice.  Rogue and Yukino crowded around me, and I heard Lexi and Lector enter the room.

"Sting-kun!" Lector cried when he saw Sting.

"What's wrong with him?" Lexi asked, not bothering about what happened to him, but at this point it doesn't matter.

"We need to get to the infirmary," I said frantically, "now!"

        "But why?" Rogue asked.

"I can't sense any magic from him idiot!" I yelled.  If you could barely sense any magic power from a mage, then that meant that he was really low on magic power, and to a mage, that was your life, so to put in simple words: he was dying, and I was angry that no one got that.  "Now come on!"  Everyone nodded and helped me carry a limp Sting to the infirmary.  When we got there, we set him down on one of the beds.  "I need a warm wet towel, the first aid kit, and some magic power transfusion," I listed all the things I needed.  Rogue, Yukino, and Lexi nodded and left the room to go find the things I just asked for.  Lector didn't go and instead stayed by his partner's side.

"Will he be...okay?" he whispered, tears already in his eyes.  I sighed.

"I don't know how much he's lost, or how he lost it Lector.." I muttered, beating myself up for not seeing this sooner.  "But, I'm sure he's fine.."  He'll be fine...right?
