Your POV
Vylad started explaining his past as I sat on the ground.
"Well... I grew up in O'khasis like you did. I had two brothers, Garroth and Zane."
Garroth and Zane... Those were the names that popped into my mind a few days ago... But why would I know Vylad's brothers?
As if reading my mind, Vylad says this, "If you didn't know, I'm Vylad Ro'meave. Garte Ro'meave, my adoptive father, is the Lord of O'khasis so you may recognize our names."
I nod. "Wait... adoptive?"
"Yes. I... My brothers and I share the same mother just not the same father. I was born because of an affair... I really don't want to talk about it." Vylad sighs.
"I understand. Please, continue."
"Okay, as I was saying I'm the Lord's son so my childhood wasn't normal. There were many events that the 'princes' of O'khasis had to attend. Banquets, festivals... But when we didn't have to attend those, my brothers and I were stuck in the castle. I didn't have many friends until I saw a little girl crying outside my window. I went down the vines that were placed directly underneath my window and I went to talk to the girl. I found out she was lost. She didn't know where her parents and sister were so I called out to my brothers. They called for my mother and we ended up taking care of the girl until we found out who her parents were. We all became friends and once she was brought back to her family, my mother brought the girl and her sister back to play almost every day. As we grew up, we all changed and we started spending less time together. One day, the girl and her sister just stopped coming over. I became pretty sad. After that, I got killed." My eyes widened as he said that.
"How... How are you alive, then?"
He sighed. "Y/n... I'm a Shadow Knight. B-But, don't be afraid! I promise I won't hurt anyone."
I nod. "O-okay... As long as you're a kind one."
He smiles. "Good. Anyways, I got killed by a Shadow Knight I had trusted for a few days. He led me to a nether portal and he killed me. Then he brought me to the nether so I could become one of them. I've done... horrible things since. I'm trying to change, though. I'm trying so hard..."
I hug him. He's shocked but he hugs me back. "You're doing great. You know, I trust you and I've only known you for a few days. Changing your ways should be a piece of cake," I say as I let go.
He smiles at me again. "Thank you, Y/n." He clears his throat. "As I was saying, I've done horrible things in the past... including betraying my fellow Shadow Knights. I've killed a few of them in the past and that resulted in me being locked up in the nether. I stayed there until an evil Shadow Knight started invading the place. All the prisoners were let out to fight against him but I ran. I'm a coward, I know... I ran to the overworld and met up with Aphmau. I got let into her group and you know what happens next," Vylad finishes.
"Wow... you've been through a lot..."
"I have, but what have you been through?" I'm quiet. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing... I'm just wondering, can I trust you with this? No one knows what I've been through except Owl."
He nods. "You can trust me. I'm a master secret-keeper."
I smile. "Alright. Now, where do I begin...
"I guess I'll start with my childhood. I don't really remember it that well... but the thing I do remember is I did almost everything with my sister. We were the greatest of friends... Speaking of, I don't even remember having any friends. I guess my childhood was pretty lonely. As we grew up, my sister really wanted to go out into the world and see everything. So, when I was seventeen and she was ten, she asked me if we could go outside the O'khasian gates. She asked me if we could break the rules. She did those cute puppy eyes and I had to say yes. We went out when the guards fell asleep at their posts. Once we were far away from O'khasis some... bandits came. They captured us and that was the start of our... slavery," I told him as I looked down. I didn't want to see his reaction.
"Y/n... How long did you live like that?" Vylad asked, softly.
"More than fifteen years..." Vylad immediately hugged me after I said that.
"I can't believe you had to serve those bandits like that... For all those years too!"
I pulled away from him. I sadly smiled and he frowned. "It's fine, Vylad. It wasn't all that bad," I admit.
"Wasn't all that bad?! Tell me, Y/n, what exactly did they make you do?" Vylad growled. I was surprised he was that mad about it.
"They made me cook and clean and carry all their stuff. They hardly gave me any food and I had to sleep on the cold, hard, ground-" Vylad cut me off.
"They treated you like garbage! How can that not be bad?"
"It was bad... But I had my sister and a bandit friend who was trying their hardest to help me get out."
Vylad looked confused. "Huh?"
"Let me continue. The night I had been captured a bandit the same age as me was assigned to watch me. His name was Alec and he was pretty nice. When I had nothing to do he trained me. That's why I'm not that bad at fighting... I'm still not good, though. More than 15 years past with the same daily routine until a new bandit named Hayley joined. She was the one you saved me from in the forest. She had memory erasing magicks and she was going to erase my sister and I's memory of everything and everyone. She was almost successful... but not thanks to Kyle. He saved us and brought us back to Phoenix Drop. I was so scared of being betrayed that I faked my name and... you know what happened next," I explain.
Vylad nods. "You've been through way more than I have... At least I could eat as much as I wanted to."
"Even when you were a prisoner?" I asked.
"Well... no. But I did get enough food to satisfy me."
"So what you're saying is bandits are worse than Shadow Knights?"
Vylad shrugs. "Kind of, but Shadow Knights kill more than bandits, don't they?"
I ponder for a minute. "I guess. Bandits don't really kill, though. They torture slaves, steal, and break and enter."
"Interesting."
I look up and I see it's almost sunset. I stand up. "Well, it was nice talking to you Vylad but I better get back before Owl goes nuts trying to find me."
"Wait!" Vylad grabs my arm.
"Yeah?"
"I want to bring you somewhere."
Vylad then starts leading me out of the forest. We pass a couple of old, decayed houses until we finally get to a hill. Vylad leads me up it and I finally realize we're at the Irene Statue. From here, we could see the sunset perfectly on the horizon.
"Wow, Vylad... It's beautiful," I marveled.
"Yeah... I go here every day to watch the sunset. It's always so pretty..." Vylad tells me.
Vylad then grabs my hand and smiles at me. I smile back as we watch the sun disappear.
"I'm going to come here tomorrow," I say.
"I will too," Vylad replied, "Let's forget about the past. I really want our futures to be brighter than the sunset."
I smile. "Let's hope it is."
