Chapter Thirty-Nine
On the way home, Osomatsu and Jyushimatsu carried Ichimatsu, who was still freaking out over all of the memories flying through his mind.
All of the people he once knew, the places he had seen after he died, no wonder they seemed so familiar. He had once known them very well. The cliff at the beach, the Matsuno's home, and the park. They were all too familiar now.
"Ichimatsu nii-san? Are you okay?" Jyushimatsu asked before they entered their home.
Ichimatsu nodded his head slowly, but didn't say a word. His eyes were red like he had been crying, but Jyushimatsu knew he hadn't been.
Once the got inside, Osomatsu and Jyushimatsu led Ichimatsu to the green sofa and allowed him to sit down. Harvey, as soon as he spotted Ichimatsu, jumped into his lap, purring softly.
Ichimatsu felt like someone had squeezed his heart, trying to make it break or burst open.
Not only had he seen things from the past, he also saw things Jyushimatsu saw while he himself was in a coma at the hospital.
Harvey was Kanola's family kitten. Ichimatsu had found Harvey, or more like, Harvey had found Ichimatsu. And later, Kanola ended up giving him to Jyushimatsu to cheer him and Ichimatsu up. That was just like something Kanola would do.
Ichimatsu stood up, putting Harvey on the ground. He felt the need to sit on the roof, for it was something he hadn't done in a long time.
Walking up the stairs that led to the roof, Ichimatsu peeked in his bedroom. The photo was no longer on the table by the rolled up futon and pillows.
"Why is it gone..?" Ichimatsu thought, but kept on walking until he was on the roof.
A feeling of hopelessness washed over Ichimatsu was he sat down on the warm sloped roof. It had been such a strange day. But he now understood why people who knew Jyushimatsu had looked at him so strangely.
"I'm supposed to be dead..." Ichimatsu muttered. "Even Kanola knew that. That first time I walked into the Cat Cafe..she dropped things. She was shocked, but she just went with the flow of things. She really was worried about me, wasn't she? I wish I could have realized how much she cared for everyone before she died...I wish I could thank her..."
"Hey, Ichimatsu nii-san," Todomatsu called, walking cautiously out onto the roof.
"Go away..." Ichimatsu mumbled.
"Did you get your memories back?" Todomatsu asked simply.
"I said go away," Ichimatsu spat harshly.
"Okay then, nii-san..." Todomatsu said, sounding slightly hurt. But then again, wasn't Todomatsu always gentle and weak? "But I want to give you this first. I've had it for awhile, and now that you're back, I guess you should do what you want with it."
Todomatsu bent down and handed Ichimatsu a framed image. In the image, Ichimatsu was hugging ESP kitty, smiling while Jyushimatsu leaned up against him.
The photo was old, for ESP kitty was just a kitten, but something about the photo made Ichimatsu begin to cry as a Todomatsu walked off.
Hugging the image, Ichimatsu closed his eyes, trying his best to keep the tears in his eyes. But, of course, he failed.
Salty tears landed on the image, and Ichimatsu tried his best to stop crying. But it was so hard to not cry.
His mind kept reminding him of how cold he had been towards Jyushimatsu. And the entire time, Jyushimatsu just wanted to have his old brother back.
"I'm so sorry..." Ichimatsu cried, staring at the image. "I really am..."
