Chapter Forty-Five
For a few split seconds, Ichimatsu was completely lost as he followed the bird in what looked like the city graveyard. But the bird didn't just stop at the entrance of the place. He continued to hop until he stopped in front of a certain gravestone that read, "Ichimatsu Matsuno: Passed away after coming out of a coma. We will always love you dearly."
The purple bird immediately flew off, leaving Ichimatsu all alone by his gravestone.
"This is where I returned, isn't it?" Ichimatsu muttered, rubbing his name on the stone. "But why did you lead me here of all places? It doesn't make sense!"
Ichimatsu voice echoed throughout the cemetery, causing a sudden chill to shoot down his spine. He was surrounded by people just like him. Dead people. Only all of these people were never given a second chance.
"Would I be considered a lucky person then?" Ichimatsu muttered, trying his best not to think of Harvey. There was a lingering emptiness in his heart, but Ichimatsu was too lost in thought to pay any attention to it.
"I need to go home now..." Ichimatsu said to himself outloud, looking around. He didn't see an exit to the cemetery anywhere.
"Oh great..." he spat under his breath. "What are the chances that I could get lost in such a place like this? And if someone asks me why I'm here, what would be excuse be? 'Oh, my guardian angel bird led me here'. That's a load of bull..."
Ichimatsu began to wander around, hoping to find the exit. But instead, he found something much more interesting. Ichimatsu wasn't the only Matsuno in the cemetery at that moment. Jyushimatsu was there, praying between two graves.
"Creepy..."Ichimatsu mumbled, "why's he here..? He had to have just gotten here...I wasn't at the..vet's office that long."
Ichimatsu shook his head, trying to forget Harvey. But it was pointless. You can never forget someone who meant the world to you.
As Ichimatsu approached Jyushimatsu, he could hear his brother crying a little. Ichimatsu stopped walking for a moment and listened closely. Jyushimatsu was saying something.
"I'm sorry, Homura...I'm sorry. I'm sorry I never came to visit you here before...I was too scared to. If Ichimatsu found me here s-so upset...he might worry. I don't want Ichimatsu to worry about me, Homura! You know I'm fine, don't you! I'm only still going because of you. I'm doing the right thing, aren't I? Please tell me I am..." Jyushimatsu whispered in pain.
Ichimatsu finally came up behind Jyushimatsu and sat down beside him.
"You've always done the right thing, Jyushimatsu..." Ichimatsu mumbled. "But you don't have to keep forcing yourself to be strong. You're abusing yourself. It's been your turn to cry for a very long time now...so why do you hold it back so often? Why do you cry alone where no one will find you?"
"Because if I'm caught crying, Osomatsu won't be happy..." Jyushimatsu choked.
Ichimatsu felt slightly shocked.
"Why would he be unhappy with you? It's not wrong to cry...it's just a way of showing what's inside.." Ichimatsu mumbled.
"Osomatsu told me...while you stayed in the alleyway..that I should keep on smiling. He said the day I stopped smiling, you would give up on yourself. We all wanted you to come back home so badly...so I just held it back. It's been so long, nii-san..." Jyushimatsu whimpered.
"You miss her more than we know, don't you?" Ichimatsu asked.
Jyushimatsu nodded his head.
"Nii-san...why did I ever have to meet Homura? Why couldn't it have just never happened. If I never met her...I wouldn't feel so alone now..." Jyushimatsu cried quietly.
"Didn't Homura teach you lots of things?" Ichimatsu asked, and Jyushimatsu nodded his head. "Well, then it was a good thing you met her. Sure, she died and made you upset. But now you know what it feels like to be hurt..."
Jyushimatsu didn't say anything for a few minutes, then stood back up gently tapping the top of Homura's grave before he turned around, beginning to walk away.
"Let's go home, Ichimatsu," Jyushimatsu said.
