Chapter One
Hello everyone,
Ok, so this is very rough and not edited, something I will come back to later.
So I apologise in advance if it sounds crap.

Pain, it was the first thing I remembered. My whole body screamed of it, from my little toe right up to my little pinkie; even my teeth hurt. I tried to open her eyes, but just like everything else it was like a thousand needles shooting across my skin. All my thoughts revolved around one thing... pain.
A small whimper leaves my lips and I momentarily give it up and just lie there waiting for the pain to subside. I tried to remember how I got here, wherever here was, but nothing. Everything was coming up blank.
I tried to think of something simple, like my name, but the only thing I knew was I was female and the fact I hurt... a lot. Actually that's not true. I knew the meaning of things, like colours; but couldn't remember what they looked like. Or food; I knew of it, but not how it tasted. A lot of things were like this, I was like a dictionary or an encyclopaedia, but everything was without pictures, only words. It was like I was a newborn but with the knowledge of the world at my fingertips.
I didn't know how long I lay there for until the pain diminished enough for me to open my eyes. It was a slow process, I knew how to do it, but it was like training my body to do a new trick.
With my eyes open and the pain diminished I was finally able to take in more. The first thing I noticed was that it was dark, it was cold and I was scared. A calming light washed over me as it pierced through the crowded trees, chasing away the darkness. Looking up through the gaps of the trees, I was able to catch a glimpse of something big, round and ever so bright, and I instantly knew it was the moon.
As if seeing the moon, calmness washed over me, and for a moment all I could do was stare. But my muscles started twitching as if they begged to be used; to be moved, and it was all I could do but give in to my body's demands.
Slowly starting with my toes I wiggled them, then my fingers, and then the rest of my body. Planting both of my hands firmly on the ground, straining with unused muscles, I pushed myself up into a sitting position. It took a while and when I was finally sitting up, I was gasping for breath.
It took a while before my breath had calmed down enough for me to attempt even something more. I rolled over until I was on all fours and dragged one of my legs up until it was underneath me. With all my strength, thighs quivering I pushed up until I was standing, wobbling like a newborn foal.
A sense of accomplishment had me grinning from ear to ear. The movement was instinctual but it still felt weird, it was only then did I realise that this was my first smile... that I knows of. I glanced up at my surroundings but even with the glow from the moon, a lot of it was still clouded in darkness. Not knowing what else to do, I decided to just start walking in any direction hoping to find a way out of the forest I had found myself situated in.
The only problem was that it was going to be a long and painful walk; I was barely standing as it was. With each step I took, the easier it became and soon I was running; albeit a bit unsteady, but none the less I was running.
Of course it didn't last very long before I had to take a break. Leaning up against a tree, I closed my eyes, allowing myself a small reprieve.
I must have fallen asleep because the next time I woke up the sky was lighting up for the start of a new day. I didn't know if it was the change of light that woke me up or the deep churning pain in my stomach. The sound of a lion growling again– how she knew the sound of a lion she didn't know – I realised it was that, that woke me up. Ok maybe it wasn't a lion, but more my stomach grumbling and I could only assume it was from hunger.
I really hoped I found civilisation soon, being hungry wasn't something I liked all too much. Getting up was a lot easier this time around. Maybe it had something to do with the fact I wasn't in excruciating pain this time round.
I found a path off to my right and decided to head along the worn path. I hadn't been travelling it long before I heard voices. Male voices. Arguing male voices.
"I'm not going to let him die." One of the guys said, sounding exasperated as if he has had this conversation way to many times.
"Could you at least think of letting him die... for me?" The other replies with what sounded like a whine.
"I repeat; I am not going to let him die." I heard a soft thud and a 'ow' in response.
"You are no fun," the other complained.
I stood there for a moment copying their words. It took a while before my voice worked without cracking and took the remaining steps that would bring them into view.
For the first people I had ever seen, these two males were a sight to behold. I didn't know how to describe them, as everything was new to me; colours, clothes...everything.
I walked up beside one of the guy who was still complaining about the guy laying prone on the forest floor, the other male kneeling down beside the injured one.
"What are you doing?" I asked looking between the three of them.
"Apparently saving someone." He grumbled.
"Is that a bad thing?" I tilt my head to the side confused and look up at him. With everything I know - which in this case is a lot and at the same time nothing... way to confusing even for me - saving a life was meant to be a good thing.
"Well... no. But this guy is annoying and Jackson here wants to save the idiot." He gestures towards the prone figure, not the one called Jackson.
"Oh will you just shut up already. We can't just kill someone because their annoying, other wise I would have to kill you two."
"Does he mean both of us, or that he would have to kill you two – like he has already killed someone else that was annoying?" They both looked towards me then as if only just realising that I was there for the first time.
"Who are you?" Good question...
"Who are you?" I throw back.
"I asked first." He faces me fully crossing his arms with a smirk gracing his perfect lips... wait what?
"Is that meant to get me to answer first?" I reply mimicking his pose
"Ummm.... Usually, yeah." He frowns and shrugs.
"Well I cannot answer your request with a response," because I have no idea.
"Why? Are you here to kill us?" what in the...
"Why would I be here to kill you?" now who's frowning.
"Well then why can't you tell us?" he throws his arms up in exasperation.
"Why can you not answer me?" Once again mimicking his movements.
"Stop copying me?" It comes out more like a growl.
"Why?" I bite the inside of my cheek to stop the smile.
"Because I said so," the growl still there.
"Why would I do as you say?" I ask confused.
"You are weird... and annoying."
"You are both weird and annoying. Why don't you both shut up and just answer the question." We both turn towards Jackson forgetting he was still there.
"You first gorgeous." Rolling my eyes at the both of them I shrug.
"I was not frivolous before, I can not answer your request."
"Can you tell us why at least?"
"No. And not because I do not wish to but because I literally can not; I have no idea of whom I am." My stomach grumbling reminds me of my hunger situation. "I think I am hungry. Do you have any sustenance?"
"Wait. Back up a second. You don't know your own name?" Jackson asks eyebrows raised
"I know that I require nourishment and that you have yet still to convey your identify."
"His Blake, I'm Jackson." He reaches into a something that was on the ground and pulled out a round object and throws it towards me.
"What is it?" I ask rolling it around in my hands.
"An apple." Blake tells me slowly like I'm an idiot.
"Oh, I know of this. Did you know that there are around seventy thousand different varieties of apples in the world? But the most common ones are the Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Gala and McIntosh." I look to Jackson and Blake who are starring at me in... confusion? "Which one is this?"
"Umm, I think it's a Red Delicious." I watch as Blake stares at the apple and scratch his head. "How is it you have never seen an apple before but know all about it?"
"I don't know? It's hard to explain. It's like my world has been a book without pictures. I knew what an apple was, but not what it looked like. Like now I'm seeing so much colour, but have no idea what colour is what. Like everything around me, I know what most of this is from description, like a tree, but how does one explain colour without seeing it before."
Blake snaps his fingers and jumps up and down, "oh I got it. Like your blind and seeing things for the first time."
I watch as Jackson closes his eyes and pinches the bridge of his nose. Taking a deep breath he opens his eyes and gives Blake a – actually I have no idea what the look was, but if I had to guess it would be – 'I'm friends with you because?' look. "I don't think that is at all what she meant, is it?" He directs his question to me.
I shake my head, mouth full with the apple. I quickly swallow it trying to think of a way to explain it in lameness terms.
"Have you ever heard of the three wise monkeys?" I ask them both.
Blake raises his hand, "oh, I know this one."
I smother a smile behind the apple and nod for him to answer.
"Hear no evil, speak no evil, and see no evil." He shoots a smug look at Jackson who just shakes his head before turning back to me.
"Yes Blake you are correct. But in this case, my case, it's a little different. Imagine I'm all three of the monkeys, Mizaru - covering his eyes, Kikazuru – covering his ears, and Iwazaru – covering his mouth, minus the evil of course. Until a couple of hours ago I had never seen a thing, never heard a thing and never spoke a thing." I take another bite of my apple and let them think this over.
"I don't understand?" Blake says after a moment shaking his head.
"For once I'm with you on this one and that is saying something." Jackson reply's never taking his eyes from me.
Sighing I throw the finished apple away and look to Jackson. "Do you have anything to quench my thirst in your holder of things?"
"You mean my backpack?" I shrug in way of response. He sighs as well and leans down and grabs this weird thing out of his 'backpack'.
He hands it to me and I look at it and see something that moves in it. "Is this water? How do you get it out?" I shake it and watch it move around, but it seems sealed tight not allowing anything to come out.
"Oh my god. It's like you're a baby, I am amazed you knew how to eat the apple with out help." He reaches for the water – well I think its water – and does a turning motion and watch a part of it comes of.
"Fascinating. This small little thing can contain the liquid." Blake does a weird snorting thing and I look towards him raising an eyebrow in a silent question.
"Isn't she cute Jack? Can we keep her, I want to keep her."
"She isn't a dog Blake, and we can't exactly take her home. How would we explain her to the elders?"
"We can't leave her out here. She doesn't even know what a bottle is; she wouldn't last five minutes out here alone."
"I have already endured a period of time out here so your analysis is erroneous."
"What the fuck does erroneous mean?" He says shooting Jackson a look who just shrugs.
"Erroneous means incorrect or mistaken. Other synonyms are, flawed, wrong, specious, inaccurate, incorrect, invalid, and untrue. Does this help with your understanding of the intricacy of words?" I say trying to be helpful.
"Maybe if you didn't finish the sentence with another stupid word." I hear him mumble under his breath, but I do not respond as I'm to focussed on the water.
"Come on finish your water and lets get you back to civilisation, and maybe some more clothes." I look down at what I am wearing and frown in confusion.
"I don't understand. Is their something wrong with my attire?"
"Oh your 'attire' is fine, if you like the climbing out of bed look. Which actually suits you by the way, but you need more clothes on than that; you would freeze to death out here in just that."
"Ok then. Lead the way to your civilisation." Jackson sighs and rubs the back of his neck shooting Blake a look.
"Fine, but if the elders find out; I had nothing to do with this." He says pointing a finger between Blake and myself.
"You worry to much. What's the worst that can happen?" He says happily throwing an arm around my shoulder.
"Of course you had to say it." Jackson huffs throwing the backpack over his shoulder and walks of leaving us to follow. "You just had to say it."
I go to follow before I remember the body they had been arguing over. "Hey guys what about the unconscious one?"
Both of them stop and glance towards the guy still passed out on the ground. Jackson grumbles a few words under his breath and walks back to the man and picks him up throwing him over his shoulder.
He walks of again without a word to either of us and Blake and I look towards each other before he smiles and throws his arm back around my shoulder.
"Come on lets follow the grumpy bear."
