"Well, I have to say, when Mr. McGavity told me you were ill, I wasn't entirely sure that he was telling me the truth. But, I can see that you have been ill and it looks like you've had some surgery to change your appearance as well." Her lawyer tells her as he ushers them both inside.
When Timothy was ushered in as well, he was more than a little startled. He'd been expecting to wait in the waiting room. He'd brought his laptop so that he could work while waiting. Like he had told Melissa, he fully expected her to take several hours to go over all the papers, make the changes necessary and for her to sign a load of legal papers.
He is able to hide his shock when Melissa talks to him telepathically, but just barely. "I would like you to look over the papers with me. See if I miss any thing."
"Why, I mean, I am more than happy to do so, but I don't understand why you want me to do so?" Timothy thinks back to her, but is unsure if Melissa received his message or not. Then he sees a little smile she tries to hide from him and is sure that she did.
"No matter what I think of you as a person, you are an astute businessman. You are also known to be an honest one. That is the reason that I took the investment in your company that my father gifted me with and added to it. I liked how you did business. I liked how you treated your employees. It's one reason I wanted a job there."
"You should have had a far better job there than you were given. You should have gotten promotions and had I known-" the thoughts still make Timothy angry. He likes to utilize people to their fullest. Pimpernel hadn't even used a fraction of her potential.
"Hush, I knew the likelihood of me being used properly wasn't likely. I accepted it. Had I wanted a job for anything other than to keep busy, I would have done something about it. I was able to keep busy and help others do better at their jobs. I am content with that."
With her quiet reassurance Timothy settles down. He still wants to have words with his executives and will do so after this trip. If he lives to do so, that is.
Melissa frowns at the thoughts that leak through Timothy's mind.
Then she reads something her lawyer hands her and she returns to the present with a bang. "Why haven't the land purchases been made?" Melissa asks her voice dropping to warning levels. She needs that land to expand her charities to help the poor in that area.
"We are now in a bid war for that land. A company wants to buy that block, including the apartments, for business offices." The lawyer is careful to not look at either of the two sitting in front of him.
"What company is going after my home?" Melissa bites out. This isn't going to end well for whichever company is daring to do so.
"McGavity Corporation." The lawyer mumbles, but it's loud enough for both of the visitors to hear.
"You have to be kidding me!" Melissa all but yells out and turns wrathful eyes onto Timothy.
"You are trying to take away my land? Why the fuck would you do that?" Melissa demands of Timothy.
Timothy feels all the warm or rather luke warm feelings that were between them going down the drain. "Might I look over the information?" Timothy asks softly trying to not draw her ire onto him even more fully.
Immediately she hands it to him. He looks over the information and narrows his lips angrily. "This was only one possible site for the proposed office buildings. There hadn't been any definite proposal for that site." He's going to kill whoever went ahead and started bidding on that land in his company's name without permission.
"That land is needed for help for the poor in that area. Two blocks down are empty warehouses that are hideouts for the local gangs and for druggies. Clearing those out are better over all for the area, will help improve the overall health of the community and make it safer for those very offices. The land in between I hope to make into a community center for sports and activities like that."
"I want to partner you in your efforts to improve the lives of the people there." Timothy is quick to offer.
Melissa snorts, "You will lose money. There is no monetary return for giving to the community like that."
"You are right. There isn't. At least not immediately seen and not usually connected. It's a long term investment in people. In the community that shows dividends in the future. I will buy the land and build the community center. Including space for a swimming pool, basket ball courts indoor and outdoor. If there is room, soccer and baseball fields. I will fund basketball, and indoor soccer leagues and if there is interest outdoor ones as well."
"Why?" Melissa isn't convinced at his words.
Timothy sighs, "I believe in the work you are doing for the people there. I DID NOT authorize any one from my company to place bids on that land. I will have my company retract any bids they've placed and will pay the difference in price from what you had first placed."
Then so saying Timothy pulls out his phone and starts speaking and as he does so his voice gets louder. Melissa and her lawyer both flinch and wince as his words get louder and angrier. He gets up out of his chair and starts angrily pacing as he speaks to whoever is on the other line.
Finally he hangs up and takes a few minutes to bring his breathing under control. "I apologize, the offer was made by my over zealous vice president. He was going to present it to the board during the next meeting. He'd hoped to do so as a fait accompli, achievement bringing forgiveness. He failed to look at any of the other possibilities. He saw that land and wanted it."
"I would have sued him had he done so. It would have held up the proceedings long enough for the board to look at him long and hard for bringing a lawsuit on the business. I would have made sure that the sale wouldn't have gone through." Melissa is still angry but it is directed away from Timothy and is aimed at the one that took so much on himself.
"What is being done to the one that over stepped himself?" Melissa asks calmly.
"He will be reviewed and if his actions are found sufficient he will be dismissed with prejudice, which will negate his severance package." Timothy answers still fighting to regain his composure. That was the last thing he needed to happen. He was actually making headway with Melissa until then.
"If you are calm enough, you are welcome to continue with us, if not we will continue without you." Melissa tells him before dismissing him and getting back to the business at hand. This needs to be dealt with before much longer.
Timothy takes a few more minutes to calm down before returning to his seat and reviewing the papers Melissa hands him.
He looks over and approves of her ideas and plans. He curses himself for not finding her earlier. He could have used her as an executive. "I didn't want to be an executive. I was content to watch from the inside and help the company in my own way. I was happy with how you were running the company over all and didn't see a need to make waves."
"Perhaps not, but I could have used your abilities. You would have been of far greater asset to me had you been where you belonged."
Melissa just shrugs as she looks over the paper work and signs her name. "I was happy doing what I was and didn't want the headache of being an executive. I was busy handling my inheritance and charities. Didn't have the time to mess with your business. I just listened to the reports my proxies gave me and told them what to vote. That was as much power as I wanted."
Timothy jumps on her wording, "Proxies?"
"Mmm, yeah, the one for these shares and the one for the shares my mother left me." Timothy is getting a sick feeling in his stomach.
"Just how many stocks, voting stocks do you have in my company altogether?"
Melissa gives him a sweet smile that turns devilish, "Well the twenty-five percent here, and if the sale went through I should have another twenty-five percent of voting stock. I would have stopped the transaction from happening, but it would have done more damage than I would have wanted."
"You own fifty percent of my company?" Timothy was right, he feels sick at that point.
Melissa gets an evil look on her face, "Why, look at that, I guess I do. Hello, partner." She laughs at his sick look.
The lawyer just looks at them with amusement. Melissa had bought half of the company with out the owner even realizing it.
"We are the only two voting partners. The other investors have no power."
Timothy closes his eyes in pain. How did he not see that happening. "The board?"
"They remain in supervisory capacity only. A sounding board if you will. They no longer have any power." Melissa tells him and is unsure what to think as Timothy starts a slow smile. He turns to face her and she gets the full effects of his stunning smile.
"Well, Miss Heath, it seems like we will be having a lot of interactions together until things change. I can't wait to see you in action."
Melissa isn't sure why his words make her feel hot, but they do. Embarrassed and flustered she turns back to the papers she still has to get through. She ignores the mental laughter she feels coming from Timothy.
