Chapter 11: Not Anymore
Note: So, I figured some people were going to have questions on how Barry used his speed earlier in the story, but it's gone now.
So, earlier in the story, Barry was hallucinating. That's why he couldn't hear them very well.
I hope you have enjoyed this series!
...
The cell remained open, but Barry didn't leave, no matter how much he wanted to.
He would spend hours staring at the door, debating it before saying, no, he couldn't risk that pain again.
Sometimes, he even cried about it.
But he never left the cell.
...
"I'm starting to think that there's a reason," Caitlin greeted as she walked into STAR Labs.
Everyone nodded.
"The question is, what's that reason?"
...
Barry stared at the open cell door.
Again.
He felt the tears before he realized he was crying.
Again.
When he saw his 'friends', he immediately tried to wipe them away to little success.
"Hey, Barry," Len greeted.
Barry ignored them, and turned to face away from them.
"Barry... We need to know why. Why you won't leave a cell. We're getting desperate enough to force you out."
Barry continued to ignore them.
"Barry..."
He ignored them.
Then Len walked up from behind him and started pulling him.
He immediately started to struggle, and managed to get away before passing the cell door.
Everyone noticed that he didn't use his speed.
They dismissed it.
Why would that be a big deal?
"Leave me alone!" Barry shouted. Len walked toward him to try again, and ignored the pure rage in Barry's eyes.
When he got close enough, Barry punched him.
"I. Told. You. To. Stay. Away. You. Didn't. Listen. Not. My. Fault," Barry breathed, then turned to ignore him again.
Len held his nose, which was bleeding.
Everyone looked at Barry in surprise.
Since when did Barry punch people?
...
When they left, Barry decided it was time.
He closed his eyes, tried in vain to stop the panic attack coming, and stuck his hand out the door.
It didn't hurt.
At all.
He opened his eyes.
He wasn't in pain.
He walked the rest of the way out.
It still didn't hurt!
He walked to the Cortex.
No one was there.
He looked around. He wished he had his speed.
He wondered how he could get it back.
He thought back to when they had to get his speed back after he gave it to Zoom.
He sighed.
That wouldn't work again.
Maybe he could try muscle memory?
If he ran fast enough on the treadmill?
Well, it's worth a shot.
...
Barry turned on the treadmill.
He took a deep breath, and started to run.
By the time 2 minutes had passed, he was panting.
By 5, he wasn't.
He slowly started to run faster, until he became a blur.
He smiled.
The Flash is back!
Except...
What if he wasn't?
...
"Ugh," Caitlin moaned as the alarm on her phone went off. She opened her eyes, and was greeted by nightfall.
Why was going on?
She unlocked her phone and was greeted by her worst nightmare...
Barry had finally walked out.
She immediately called Joe, grabbed her coat and keys, and raced toward her car.
It was, of course, raining, and Caitlin cussed in despair.
Barry could already be gone.
...
When Joe got a call from Caitlin at (Checks watch) 1:45, he knew something was wrong.
Then he got the STAR Lab notification.
And saw Barry was lose.
He was suddenly much more awake.
He knocked on Iris' door, explained the situation, knocked on Wally's door, explained the situation, and all three of them headed down to the car and STAR Labs.
...
When Len received the notification, he completely ignored everything else and raced toward STAR Labs on his motorcycle.
...
Barry knew his suit could be tracked, so he couldn't bring it with him.
He couldn't wear normal clothes, because the friction would destroy them.
He couldn't not wear anything, just because he wasn't comfortable with that.
So, he would need a new suit.
How to get one?
He could probably make his own.
He could grab one of Cisco's extra suits, and copy the design.
Maybe a different color though...
But he had to say goodbye first.
He knew that this couldn't be something drug-induced anymore, considering they would never let this happen.
So, he waited.
...
"Barry!" Cisco said as he ran into the Cortex.
Barry ran in from... Somewhere.
"Hey, Cisco!" he greeted. "Where's everyone else? Set up to hit me with a dart?"
Ironically, as soon as he said that, Joe fired.
Barry (Seeing as he was able to literally hear the gun go off in slow motion) turned, and grabbed it mid-air.
"Really? That hurt," Barry whined, pretending that the dart hit so he would get a break.
No one fell for it.
Suddenly, four darts were fired at once. Barry sighed loudly.
He traced where they were coming from, then turned them around so they would hit whoever had shot them.
When the world caught up, he heard four loud thumps.
He ignored Cisco's face, and continued. Or, at least, he tried to.
"So, I can't do this anymore. I don't mean I'm suicidal, not that I haven't been before, but still. I... I can't be The Flash. I'm too tainted. But I still want to help this city.
"I do. I need to. And I know you can't help me, which is ok, so I made my own untraceable suit. I'm going to become Oliver. I will, believe it or not, miss you and Caitlin.
"And, Cisco? I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
"Goodbye."
Then he sped his way out of STAR Labs, and he immediately knew he would probably never any of his loved ones again.
...
Note: Guess you finally understand the cover... (Smirk)
