Chapter VIII - Mitch: Out to Patrol
Hello there everyone!
I am proud of this chapter :D
It's a pretty long chapter, if I do say so myself.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it, and I'll be aiming for 10+ votes :)
Also, I have a slight preview of what might happen in the future.
But you're going to have to guess what happens >:)
The song which you have to guess by is 'Wires' by The Neighbourhood. (Song in Media)
The song is about a character in this story and it will describe the character in the future, so, you have to guess who the character is that the song is describing.
The key word is (there are more, but I don't want to help you that much): all that he invested
So yeah, that's a slight preview, but I won't tell you who the character is until the time comes, or if you answer it correctly >:3
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the chapter, and I'll see you in the next update!
Much Luv!

Mitch stayed silent for a while. An omen? Crossroads? What does that have to do with his dreams? "Wait, what do you mean by, omens and crossroads?" Adam asked.
"An omen, as in visions that are telling the future." Ingrid answered.
"How do you know this?" Adam asked, giving Ingrid a questioning look.
"I've seen them, and Mitchell isn't lying, they are very unclear, yet I have been noticing that they are clearing in the following years." Ingrid answered.
"Wait, you've seen them? How?!" Mitch asked.
"Mitchell, I'm a sorceress, I can't tell you such thing that other people like you aren't capable of doing, but, I can tell you this, those images, they are the same silhouettes, because they are different events that will happen of you chose a path." Ingrid continued.
"Is there a, correct path?" Mitch asked. He wanted to know this. If there was a good path, then there is no way he's going to object that path.
"There is no correct path when it comes to crossroads, Mitchell." Ingrid stated, with a small chuckle which sent shivers down Mitch's spine. Mitch could see how Adam was a bit uncomfortable as well.
"If there isn't a correct path, which one seems like a path that won't end up making chaos?" Adam asked, rewording the question.
"It depends on how you start off." Ingrid answered, but her answers seemed so, unclear.
"When will we start off?" Mitch asked, loosing his patience.
"Soon Mitchell, very, very soon." Ingrid said, her eyes gleaming. Mitch and Adam looked at each other in confusion, but they didn't argue. At least it was CLOSE to a direct answer, but not exactly what they were looking for.
"Well, thanks anyway, Ingrid." Adam said, wanting to leave.
"No problem, come back if you have any more questions." Ingrid said, getting up.
"Yeah, thanks, we'll uh, be going now." Mitch said awkwardly, walking upstairs with Adam following him from behind. Mitch inhaled fresh air with relief when he opened the door. He heard Adam do the same when he stepped outside as well.
"So, did you get the answers you were looking for?" Blaise asked cautiously.
"Close, close enough." Adam answered.
"I know it's a bit frustrating that Ingrid doesn't give you a direct answer, but, hey, what can you do?" Blaise said, shrugging.
"Thanks anyway." Mitch said, giving Blaise a small smile.
"Thanks for coming." Blaise said, closing the door.
"Well, that was, something." Adam said, looking at the hut, but then walking away from it.
"I guess so..." Mitch said, feeling a bit bored now that he had nothing else to do. It wasn't exactly that he knew what to every single day. Everyone would be like, 'Oh he's never bored, he's a prince, he knows what to do every day.' That would be a lie, or pretty much a stereotype. Every one of his friends would be doing something to help their families, while Mitch just walks around. Heck, Mitch even had the urge to do chores some times.
"Well, what do you want to do?" Adam asked, kicking some rocks around.
"I don't know, I have nothing left to do." Mitch answered.
Mitch glanced at Adam, who looked like he was thinking carefully. Mitch wanted to know why, was he thinking of what to do? If so, he'd just say it if it were an ordinary question, but instead, he looked like he was debating with himself if he should do whatever he wanted to do, with Mitch. "Hey, Mitch?" Adam asked, looking at Mitch.
"What is it?" Mitch asked, looking at him closely.
"Well, since you are always stuck here in the walls of the kingdom, I wanted to know if, you wanted to go patrolling with me, outside of the kingdom's walls." Adam asked, hesitantly.
Mitch looked at him in utter silence. No wonder Adam was debating with himself to ask this question, since Adam knew that ever since he left the kingdom's grounds as a young kid, Mitch hasn't been thinking of ever leaving again. But this time, Mitch didn't want to object his offer. He had realized by the passing of the years, that maybe leaving the kingdom was the best/worst decision for him. Best, because of the friends he made and how trust is really important, but worst, for making the extinction of two beloved villages and a species he was curious about. Adam continued looking at him, waiting for an answer to escape his lips.
"Well, I-I'm in." Mitch answered, not regretting his decision.
"Really?" Adam asked, surprised at Mitch for his answer.
"You were the one who asked the question." Mitch said, giving Adam a small smirk.
"True." Adam said, giving Mitch a small smile, "Come on, follow me."
Adam then walked off towards a random direction, with Mitch following him from behind. Mitch didn't know where Adam was going, definitely not outside, yet. He was guessing that he was going to the building where knights would train, hang out, or do whatever they pleased. But first, Mitch knew that they had to go through the maze of houses and shops. He saw many kids running around, playing with each other, making Mitch remember the times when he was younger and played with his friends. The older, mature girls gave him small smiles and waved at him kindly. He always liked his kingdom because of the fact that many citizens did their own thing and they were always doing their daily routines. Mitch, sadly, never experienced village life because of his dynasty. I wish my brother Connor was the older brother, Mitch thought to himself. His brother, Conner was younger than him, and was only one year old when the truce was broken, and he was still a baby. Right now, he was nine (A/N: I know that Connor irl right now is eleven, but bear with me because Mitch here is eighteen) and would do whatever King Ross taught him to do, unlike Mitch when he was eight.
"Well, we're here, come on." Adam stated, pointing at the upcoming building. It was a stone gray, square building with many stone slab details. The only thing that was wooden were the two wooden, front doors. The roof had canons on it, which you could see from a distance, which meant that it was a guard tower as well. Adam walked up to it, and knocked on the wooden door. Suddenly, the door opened, and there stood Preston, his eyes widening in surprise, "Hi guys! What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to know when the guards patrolling right now are going to come back, and if Mitch and I could be apart of the next one." Adam said, hoping to get a good expression from Preston.
"Why do you want to bring Mitch on patrol too? He's a prince, not a guard, no offense Mitch." Preston stated with a worried look on his face, as if the outside were the most dangerous thing ever.
"Mitch and I are bored and, he wants to remember what it was like out there." Adam explained. Mitch could tell Preston was thinking if he should let them in or not.
Finally, Preston sighed and said, "Sure, come on, we'll talk with the head-knight."
Then, they all went inside. Mitch looked around and saw random men, some were sitting at tables, eating or talking with other guys. Many of them he knew, looked at him and welcomed him as he walked past them all. Mitch returned the hellos, but continued following Preston, who was looking down at a stairwell, and walked down. Adam and Mitch both walked down the stairwell in silence, until Preston was at the bottom and faced two doors. "There are way too many wooden doors." Mitch whispered to Adam, who nodded slightly. Preston then knocked on a door, and a raspy, strict voice from inside said, "Come in."
Preston opened one of the doors, and Mitch and Adam went in the room, while Preston entered as well, closing the door behind him.
"Preston? Adam? Mitchell? What are you three doing here?" The same voice asked. Mitch looked at the man, and saw a bulky, tall man with formal looking clothes and black boots, and had a belt with a sword, which glinted in the candle-light.
"Er, hi, Sir Alvinson, I was wondering, when will the following patrol come?" Preston asked nervously.
"Um, I'm sure that they will be back any moment, why?" Sir Alvinsion asked, raising a bushy eye brow.
"Well, my two friends here, Adam and Mitch, wanted to join as well." Preston said, putting his hands on both Mitch and Adam's shoulders.
Sir Alvinson's eyes widened in surprise, which made Mitch wince, "Adam seems like an acceptable choice but, Mitchell? He's the prince for Notch's sake, we shan't trust anything out there and risk his life."
Mitch rolled his eyes at his remark. He hated when people that he could not take care of himself. He is impatient, sure, but it's not like he couldn't defend himself. "Well, yeah, I know, but, Mitch insisted in doing so." Preston protested.
"Yeah, and, there will be knights, which means, Mitch will be in safe care, am I right?" Adam stated.
Sir Alvinsion looked at Mitch, and then at Preston, and then at Adam, and Mitch again. All of a sudden, he started chuckling. Mitch, Preston, and Adam looked at eachother awkwardly, hoping that Sir Alvinsion didn't think that their request was a joke. "Let's just hope King Ross doesn't kill me." He said with a small chuckle. The three guys looked at each other in triumph, and looked back at Sir Alvinsion.
"Thank you, sir." Preston said with a small smile of gratitude.
"No problem, now wait for the patrol to come back and head on out, or else I'll change my mind." He answered, his tone sounding like he meant it. Without hesitation, Preston, Mitch, and Adam left his room, and ran up the stairs and walked out of the building.
"Well, all we have to do now, is wait." Preston said, leaning against the building's stone wall. Mitch rolled his eyes in impatience, tapping his foot on the dirt, waiting. Mitch had to admit it, he was the type of people who get impatient, it is the truth. He never really enjoyed waiting on people or at all. Suddenly, Mitch heard walking in the distance, and he looked up and saw random knights, walking in an orderly fashion. He took a step back, allowing the knights to enter the building. "Well Prestion, it's you and your patrol's turn to patrol." One random knight stated, nodding at Preston.
Preston nodded back, and yelled, "Yo! Everyone in my patrol group! Get your lazy butts out here!"
Random people then came out, laughing at whatever they were talking about, and they were suited as well. "Crap, I have to get suited too." Adam said, running in the building. Mitch chuckled and turned to face Preston, who had his arms folded.
"He won't take long, I promise." Mitch said, looking at Preston. All of a sudden, Adam ran back out, suited in armor and gave Preston a reassuring nod, "Alright, now we can go."
"Alright everyone, let's go!" Preston announced, leading the crowd of people forward. Mitch and Adam stayed closely behind, following them. Mitch hesitated once he saw the large doors, which had a watch tower wall attached to it, with two guards standing on it, looking down at the patrol.
"You're taking the prince with you too?" One of the guards asked, looking at Mitch, then back at Preston. Everyone then looked around and turned to face Mitch, noticing just now that he was apart of the group. Mitch shifted a little, uncomfortable at all the staring and mumbling.
"Yep, I am." Preston answered surelly.
The two guards looked at each other and shrugged, "Suit yourself." And with that, they opened the two large doors by pushing them back. Mitch held his breath as he saw a glimpse of the outside.
Just as he saw a long time ago, there were still a few pine trees, but not as many as a long time ago, since the kingdom expanded their territory. Then, Preston started leading the party of men out and walked out towards the forest. Mitch walked nonchalantly behind the crowd, looking around at the nature surrounding him. He could tell that Adam was glancing at him, looking at his reaction of looking at the outside world again. "Hey Mitch, we can turn back if you feel uncomfortable." Adam said.
"No, I'm fine." Mitch answered cooly, proceeding forward. One thing he knew for sure, was how different his surroundings were. They weren't as peaceful as before, he could guess it was because the animals moved further away from their old homes, mad at man who expanded their home. Mitch could understand completely, especially since winter was coming near.
Mitch looked around, that, is, until something caught his eye. It was a brown, well, a dark brown silhoutte, definetly not a deer or an elk, which was running around in the distance, but he couldn't see it clearly because of all the trees that were around. Mitch then stopped, and tapped Adam's shoulder, "Pst, Adam."
"What is it?" Adam asked, stopping as well and looking at Adam. Mitch pointed towards the direction of where he saw the silhoutte, and sure enough, the silhoutte was still there. Adam held his breath as he saw what Mitch was pointing at.
"I think we should check it out." Mitch suggested, walking off towards the direction of the silhoutte.
"What?! Mitch, you're crazy." Adam exclaimed in a harsh whisper.
Mitch turned around and smirked at Adam, "I know I am." Then he continued walking off towards it, going away from the patrol, which was pretty distant.
"I know I am."
