Ch. 10

*BRUCE'S POV*

We all listened to Tony's description of the kid-Peter. He seemed destroyed at the fact that he died right in his arms. Who wouldn't be?

No one talked for a moment but Steve was the one who broke the silence

"Well... You can ask him when we get everyone back." "If we do..." Thor said bitterly. "We can at least try!" "Oh grow up Steve! We lost! We're not getting our friends back! A-and I'm not getting my brother back!" Thor stomped off.

'This team is breaking apart...' I thought. 'Tony told me about the airport fight and that we practically broke in two. This seems worse...'

Once again, there was silence for a few minutes. "I'm going to go get some water..." Tony said. He winced when he got up and Pepper helped him.

When he was out of the room, I noticed that Clint looked over at Nat. She gave him a sad smile and nodded. "Peter was like his kid. He at least somewhat knows how you feel...loosing someone as close as family..." "Yeah... I could talk to him. Maybe think of a plan to get everyone back." "That'd be great Clint." Nat got up from the couch and hugged him.

"Huh... you're going soft Nat." He teased. She laughed and punched his shoulder.
"I'm only being so called 'Soft' for you 'cause you're my best friend. Only you get this luxury." He chucked. "Lucky me."  Clint started heading to the kitchen to talk to Tony. A sad sigh escaped his lips as he walked away.

"Lucky me indeed..." I could bearly hear it because of how quiet he was.

When Thor, Clint and Tony left, things went silent again. Steve, Rocket, Rhodey, Shuri, Nat, and I just sat there. No one really had anything to say. Tony Stark, the man who 'has no feelings' just walked away on the verge of tears from talking about some kid.

But no. According to Tony, this was not some kid. He wasn't just an intern. He was family.

"I-I'm gonna go check on Thor." I said, trying to avoid this awkward situation. "Alright Bruce." I gave Nat a small smile. She returned it.

'I doubt she really loves me...' I thought. 'She deserves better than some ticking time bomb.'

I knew it'd been a while since I had seen her but deep down, I really loved her. I wanted her to be mine.

Could she feel the same way? She's claimed herself that she doesn't love. She'd said 'Love is for children.' She refuses to talk about her past. Even around her best friends. Of course she trusts us but it seems to be a spot too sensitive to mention. She's an unpredictable woman. During the Ultron fight, it seemed like she loved me... She even kissed me. Could I have...changed her mind? No- I doubt that... Natasha is amazing. She wouldn't let some mutant change her opinion on loving someone. Besides, I'm too deadly for someone to ever love.

"Bruce? Are you ok?" "Hm?"I looked up to see that I hadn't moved and that Nat was looking at me concerned. I'd been staring at the floor. A blush spread across my face. "Y-Yeah. I'll see you guys in a bit." I walked away quickly.

"Thor?" I called. "You there?" "Go away..." I heard him mumble. Instead of listening, I walked closer. I saw him in a room and by the looks of it, he seemed ready to break down any second. "Thor..." instead of making eye contact with me, he focused on twirling his axe in his hand. "Are you ok?" "Just leave already." "Thor please-" He continued speaking as if he didn't hear me. I was blocked it from all his thoughts and emotions.

"I have-no one..." He choked out.

"But you're wrong Thor. You have us. You have all the other avengers."

Well... almost all of them...

His silence urged me to continue. "You have me... We've been through space and monsters and aliens for years. The whole team cares for each other and I hope you realise that that means you too."

For a moment both of us were just silent and Thor's back was facing me. Before I knew it, I was practically thrown to the ground by the impact of Thor hugging me. I returned it, patting his back. "I needed this Bruce. Thank you... Also, I hope you know I like you more than the hulk. He's too loud." I chuckled.

"So I've been told."

"Are you planning on telling lady Natasha your feelings?" He said suddenly. I blushed deeply. "N-no, not really- Thor this isn't the time to talk about that..." "Why's that?" We'd talked about my feelings for Natasha before. We became closer friends after Ragnarok.

"You two seemed to have loved each other during the Ultron attack." "But... I don't know... I don't think I'm good enough for her..."

"Nonsense Bruce! I believe she loves you as much as you love her!" He exclaimed.
"But in order to know, you must tell her-"

"Tell her what." Shitshitshitshit.

Natasha stood there with a raised eyebrow. The rest of the team (minus Clint and Tony) was behind her.

"Nat... I uh..." Thor had a huge smile on his face. "I- gotta pee." I walked towards the bathroom quickly, my face extremely hot from blushing so much. Tears stung my eyes, threatening to fall.

I ran inside the bathroom and splashed my face with water. Huffing our a breath, I muttered, "Why does this have to happen to me?"

Why do I have to love someone who could never love me back...

"Bruce?" "Mhm?" "Could you come out?" "...No..." "This is mighty hypocritical. I allowed you to talk to me now I would like to talk to you." I sighed with a small smile on my face. "Fine, fine I'll come out." The second I walked out, Thor hugged me tightly. 'He's hugging a lot today.'

I didn't realize how much I needed a hug... (I love Bruce so much and he deserves every hug in the universe you can fight me T^T)

"Thanks buddy."
"Of course dear friend. Also, I don't think you are correct on this situation. I believe she loves you." "Thanks..."

We walked back and Nat had a smirk on her face. "That's what you couldn't tell 'her,' huh? That you had to 'pee?'" "Uh... Yep!" "Mhm." She replied sarcastically. I laughed awkwardly.

"Anyway... what did you guys need?" "We wanted to see what we could do to bring everyone back and defeat Thanos." "Well... I wouldn't know..." "Bruce. You and Tony are the smartest on the team and Tony doesn't seem to be in the right condition to think about all this at the moment..." "Yeah... you've got a point there."

"Is there something you've worked on before that won't take too long?" "...I don't... but I can show you what I've tried working on throughout the years."

We all rummaged through the papers around my lab. "Uhm... spells?" "Nope. I've tried that. Only Strange knows how to do that stuff. Besides, there's nothing to bring anyone back or strong enough to just defeat Thanos. Only the stones have that power."

"You looked for a unicorn Bruce?" Thor asked, holding up a paper of info on if they exist. "Heh... I was pretty drunk when I did that..."
He hummed in response.

Hours of possible solutions and no luck, Nat found one. "Bruce. I think I found something good." "What is it?" "...Time travel." "Does that actually exist?!" "Not yet it doesn't... Then again, I tried figuring it out for years." "And you just gave up?" "Mhm."

"But we can try to do it. If it works, we can get the stones!" "...You're right... but it might not work." "But there's a chance."

"I dunno... It's pretty dangerous stuff... if we do figure it out, someone could get stuck in a timeline. I can't loose any more of my friends..." "Please Bruce. We have a chance here. We can't just ignore that." Nat pleaded.

I sighed defeatedly. "Ok... I'll help you guys figure it out- but I'll need Tony's help." "Yes!" Nat ran over and kissed me on the cheek. The blush came back. She giggled at the sight. When I looked over at Thor, he had a smirk on his face that said 'I told you so.' I rolled my eyes fondly.

It could've just been a friendly gesture kind of thing but it gave me hope to talk to Nat about her going out with me. It seems like forever that I've had hope. We even have the chance to get our friends back.

It feels like luck is finally on our side.
