Starting Your Service

Today was going to be your first day as one of Tokito Muichiro's students. Your goal was to become a hashira like him, but first you would have to learn better sword fighting skills and master Total Concentration Breathing. Then you could officially call yourself a tsugoku of Tokito, and he could teach you more skills.

You were a bit anxious in the beginning, as you had heard that Tokito was quite cold with his tsugoku and didn't exactly treat them the best. Your friend Shinobu Kocho, one of the hashira, had debunked those claims. She said that the only time he was cold was when he was having problems remembering something. His memory loss was a constant issue for him, and some of the hashira had even made fun of him for it, before Oyakata, the leader of the hashira, had ordered them to stop. Because he had been made fun of and some people had distanced themselves from him due to this, whenever he couldn't remember anything, he got cold. It didn't mean that he hated his tsugoku- actually, he loved all of his tsugoku and would protect them with his life- it just meant that he was sad that he couldn't remember.

You were a girl with a warm heart, and hearing that such a loving person had been made fun of and had memory issues hurt you. You promised Shinobu that you would always help Muichiro remember, and you would serve him faithfully until your last breaths. This made the insect hashira quite happy, and she gave you a gift before you left for your new teacher's home.

The gift in question was a navy blue yukata with a design of red and white camellia flowers intertwining across the fabric. The fabric itself was soft cotton, and it was a perfect thing to wear inside when it was hot in the summer, like it was currently. You tried it on, and you found that you looked quite attractive in it. Shinobu was very enthusiastic about your looks, squealing and clapping her hands, and telling you many times, "Ara ara~ You're so attractive, Y/N!"

(here's what the yukata looks like, and basically what your fashion is like)

Armed with your new yukata and your short hair adorned with a flowered pin, you left the Butterfly Estate and headed for Muichiro's house, which was situated in a valley that was shrouded by mists. There were rumors of travelers entering this valley and never coming out, but these rumors were nothing more than stories, at least you hoped so. You would hate to disappear in the thick mists before you even reached your new home.

You had walked for many miles before reaching the valley. As soon as you entered it, you felt the oddly light, as if a great weight had been lifted from your shoulders. This feeling was odd, because you could have sworn that there was no weight on your shoulders before entering the valley. You were carrying your yukata folded up in a basket, along with some fresh flowers you had gathered along the way, to brighten up the house. But you hadn't been carrying anything over your shoulders or back.

You also felt a strange cheerful feeling bubbling up in your stomach, and you had the desire to leap high up in the air and begin to sing. This was also odd, as you had no clue where this feeling came from. You had never felt like this before, and you had just been feeling gloomy about how scary the mist was and how you could barely see anything in it, just vague shapes and outlines of flowering trees and tall grasses waving in a seemingly invisible wind. These carefree feelings of weightlessness and joy were foreign to you, and you were scared. So you ran as fast as you could, until you saw the outline of the large mansion that was your destination in the distance.

When you got closer, you noticed that there were girls that looked to be your age outside, folding clothes and hanging them up on a clothesline that was hanging from metal stakes driven halfheartedly into the ground. Whoever had placed them there hadn't done quite well, as they were weak and swaying constantly in the invisible wind. The girls seemed to not care about anything, though. Their faces showed no emotion, and they did their work as if they were being forced to do it. When you greeted them with a happy smile and handed each one of them a flower, they didn't even smile, and when they said, "Welcome," in unison, they didn't sound welcoming at all.

Those girls are so weird, you thought as you entered the mansion and looked around. The layout was pretty much the same as Shinobu's mansion (i'm too lazy to write a layout for a whole mansion, besides like i said in my Childe fanfic, i'm bad at writing house layout descriptions) which was to be expected. The mansion's exterior looked the same too, except that instead of having a butterfly engraved in the door, it had an engraving of clouds covering the sun.

While you were exploring everything, you were interrupted by a soft male voice saying, "Excuse me, miss?"

You turned around from where you were exploring an expensive looking vase to see a boy who looked to be close to your age standing behind you. He had long black hair with soft blue-green highlights on the ends of it, and dull gray-blue eyes that showed no emotion. A sword was buckled onto the back of a long black coat that he was most likely wearing over his official demon slayer uniform. All in all, he looked handsome, but distant.

"What is it? Do you need something?" you asked him, taking a flower from your basket to give to him.

"My name is Tokito Muichiro. Are you a new student?" he asked.

He seems so soft and gentle, you thought to yourself, a blush spreading across your cheeks. How could he ever be mean to his tsugoku?

"Yes, I'm here to train under you and hopefully become a hashira later in life," you responded, trying to smile and look cute despite your shyness.

"What's your name? I'm sorry, I should know this, but I just can't remember..." he said, trailing off with sadness evident in his tone.

"Aww, don't be all sad, it's okay to forget things!" you blurted out without thinking.

Muichiro's expression quickly changed from sad to angry. Just great. You had made your teacher angry the first time you had met him. How dumb could you possibly be?

"I know that!" he retorted. "But it's not okay to forget all the time! I keep on forgetting important things, and it's so annoying! I hate myself... why did I have to become this way?"

Your heart broke when you realized that he was angry at himself, not at you. The loving side of you took over your logical side, and you threw your arms around him, holding onto him tightly, as if he would vanish if you didn't grab hold of him.

"It's okay!" you said, cursing yourself for being so informal at your first meeting. "You shouldn't hate yourself for something you can't control! I'll help you to remember things!"

"You-"

Muichiro broke free from your grip and stood there, looking at you with sadness in his eyes. Sadness made his eyes look full of grayness- bleak and mysterious, like the mist outside and the invisible winds that blew through without being felt.

You didn't know what this beautiful human being was going through. But no matter what it was, you would make him feel better. That was your goal as his student, and as a fellow human. You wanted to cheer up as many people as possible.

"What's your name?" Muichiro said, erasing all signs of sadness and returning to propriety.

"My name's L/N Y/N. My dream is to become a hashira, and to save people lives and make them happy!"

"To make them happy? Surely saving their lives is enough..."

"No way! Everyone deserves to be happy and live a good life! That's my reason for fighting, to save people's lives and make them able to have many more good memories," you said, realizing that you were coming on kind of strong, but not caring. You needed to get your message across.

Muichiro laughed, and his laugh was gentle and refreshing.

"As you say, miss. Let me show you to your room."

He took you to a room that was larger than you expected. Your bed was in one corner, the sheets freshly washed, and there was an expensive looking closet against the wall. A window opened out to a view of a garden filled with flowers, and there was a shelf underneath the window with a vase, which Muichiro put the flower you had given him into. On the other side of the room, there was a tab

"I hope you enjoy this room, Y/N. I'll see you tomorrow for training."

With that, he left, leaving you with one thought in your head.

God, Tokito Muichiro, you are the love of my life...

A/N- This is one of the longest chapters I've ever written and I honestly did not want to stop lol- I guess my inspiration just came in a huge amount today.
