Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Jane sat there in silence, watching the doctors save Grace. Rigsby was pacing, every once in a while glancing at the window to her room. This was the love of his life, he couldn't lose her! Jane knew the feeling but couldn't voice his advice, so he just sat there defeated. How was he ever going to save Lisbon now? Cho had decided to pick up Teresa and bring her to the hospital, arguing that she was still their boss at heart. Jane couldn't bring himself to go near her, his failure eating away at him.
"Cho brought me, is something wrong?"
Rigsby looks like he's going to say something but he's to full of pain to voice Grace's struggle and he falls silent. She looks to Jane for answers but the consultant merely gets up and walks out of the room.
"The man who hurt you, hurt Grace."
Cho intervenes, gesturing to the window that Rigsby is currently focused on.
"Oh."
Something crashes, causing all three of them to stop what they're doing and look at the door Jane had exited. Not knowing what to do Lisbon opens the door and enters only to find Jane hurriedly picking things off the floor and putting them back on what seemed to be a cart. It was one of those carts one could find a nurse pushing down the hallway in the hospital. Lisbon kneels on the floor and helps with the fallen items noting Jane's reluctance to look at her.
"I can take care of it."
"Patrick honey you're stressed, let me help."
Before she can do anything Jane abruptly gets up and walks down the hallway, unknowingly hurting her. Jane knew what he was doing was wrong but he didn't want Angela, he wanted Teresa. And this wasn't even her, the Lisbon he knew would flag him down and berate him for being so rude. Angela, however, would stay there; hurt and confused. Jane reaches the door to the outside and right when he opens it a certain someone slams it shut before getting in-between Jane and the door. It was Angela, or Teresa, he couldn't tell. All Jane knew was that her eyes were burning with anger.
"What is wrong with you!? All I wanted to do was help!"
"But-"
"No! You have been insensitive ever since I got home from the hospital-"
"Insensitive!?"
The outburst silences her and Jane takes her outside. He goes to a bench and focuses on the sidewalk, the bitter cold of night clinging to the both of them. Jane doesn't protest when she sits next to him, together but alone. For a moment there's only silence as they sit there in the cold and only Jane is brave enough to talk.
"When I met you", he begins as he stays focused on the ground. "You were the only one who gave me any attention. Everyone else thought I was a burden but you, Teresa, never looked at me that way."
"But I'm not-"
"Please let me finish."
"..."
"It's just that, well, I had hoped that when this was all over with Red John I could be with you. I love you, you mean the world to me! And now in his last act he just takes you away from me! I love you Teresa- I hate seeing you like this! And this isn't you, you are not Angela!"
At the mention of those words, she bows her head, closes her eyes, and rubs her temples.
I love you Teresa
"I blacked out again didn't I?", Teresa asks, catching Jane's attention. She opens her eyes and looks up at him sadly. "Was I Angela...again?"
Jane looks at her in surprise, what did he say that snapped her out of it? Lisbon looks away from Jane and the confusion settles in before a barrage of questions stream in. It made sense that she didn't know what was going on and it was proof that he really did snap her out of it.
"What is the last thing you remember?"
"Well, just a phrase."
"Which was?"
"I love you Teresa."
Jane was overjoyed, he couldn't believe that something so simple was what brought her back. Before he can talk she ends up asking more questions.
"Why are we at the hospital?"
"Ah well, it's a long story."
