14. Dylan
THE FOLLOWING morning, Dylan woke up and decided that he'd make breakfast. He turned to his wife and smiled at her, then pressed a kiss on her temple. If he knew anything about his wife, it was that she loved it when she received kisses on her forehead while she was asleep. According to her, she liked that "fuzzy feeling".
He quietly stepped out of the bed, tucked his woman with the blanket they were using and smiled down at her peaceful face sleeping. After Dylan stared at her for a few moments, he turned around and headed towards the kitchen; where a breakfast buffet for two awaited them in an hour or so.
Placing butter into the pan and cracking an egg, Dylan began to cook; letting the creative energy of cooking devour his mind, calming him in a peaceful mindset. . .
…
About an hour or so, Dylan had placed the last remaining plates on the dining table, smiling at himself. He had made: eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, French toast and pancakes.
Just as he set the pitcher of milk on the wooden surface of the table, Valerie came downstairs, wearing the same shirt she wore last night before going to bed. When she reached the bottom of the staircase, smelling food, she smiled and walked in; an utter surprised look plastered on her face.
"Wow!" she said, grinning from ear to ear. "You seriously made all of this?"
Dylan gave out a triumphant smile. "Yup," he replied. "it was something I decided to make as a peace offering." he then walked over to the set of plates and began to serve his wife her breakfast meal, then he served his.
They sat across from one another, eating food. "I'm sorry about last night," Dylan said after gulping down his orange juice. "I didn't mean for us to get off on the wrong foot."
"It's okay," Valerie replied soon after. She pushed her now empty plate to the side. "this whole thing is frustrating for us both." she side, removing her hand through her messy, wavy, long hair. "I just wish I could remember who you were, what my life was like before the car accident."
Dylan nodded in sympathy, mentally wishing the same thing. "You'll be okay, I'm going to get you through this. Pretty soon you'll be remembering everything." he reached his hand out and stroked the back of her hand with his large thumb; reassuring her. He looked at her with his head tilted to his left, gray eyes glimmering with a sort of adoration.
Something inside of Valerie began to click, and so in return she smiled back; finding the moment to be beautiful.
Did he always look at me like that? She wondered. She didn't want to press any questions, so she just gave a toothless, warm grin in return.
"We have to be somewhere," he said, rising to his feet. "get dressed and meet me down here in an hour."
Valerie nodded, then raced upstairs to get ready for whatever it was they were going to do.
