13. Valerie
AS SOON as they got home, Valerie looked around the living room; finding the area to be familiar but she couldn't place the ffact that it was her and Dylan's living space. To the young, twenty-year-old woman, it looked like any other living room.
Dylan shut the front door behind them, hanging their jackets on the coat rack. He stepped into the living room and placed a hand on his wife's shoulder.
"You should probably get some rest," he said, putting Valerie's duffel bag on the recliner. "I'll take you to our bedroom."
Valerie nodded, but on the inside she felt afraid and didn't know why the living room seemed familiar. Without a comment on her wonder, she followed Dylan upstairs.
…
The room lit up with one lamp on the right side of the nightstand. Their bed rested in the center of the room, covered in a white comforter and plush, white pillows. It was nearly made, for Dylan wanted this night to be special. Because she didn't remember him or anything else, the idea of making love to Valerie rested elsewhere.
"I'm going to sleep with you?" Valerie asked, crossing her arms over her chest. Dylan chuckled, then went over to the bed and unfolded the comforter and sheet forward, leaving space for both parties to lie down together.
"Well yeah," Dylan replied. "we are husband and wife, after all." he began to take off his shirt and removed his jeans, sitting on the left side of the bed.
"By the way, you don't have to take off your clothes if you don't want to." he continued. "I'm only telling you that so you don't feel uncomfortable."
The young woman nodded, closing her eyes as she let out a nervous breath. "Please, can you put a shirt back on?" she asked.
Dylan sighed, then put on a simple white tee. "You know, I wish you remembered stuff." he lied down in bed, facing the unlit lamp on his nightstand.
Valerie went over to the bed, sat down, shut off the light, and laid down next to her husband; facing the window. Before closing her eyes, Dylan's recent statement echoed in her mind.
"You know, I wish you remembered stuff."
I wish the same thing. . . Valerie thought to herself. She then sighed and closed her eyes, falling asleep; silently hoping that she'd wake up from this nightmare of not remembering anything.
