01. Valerie
SHE SAT on the recliner of her home, turning the page of the book her husband had gotten her a few weeks ago. It was My Husband's Wife, and so far, it was a pretty good read. Valerie decided that after reading three chapters of this breath-taking novel she wanted to listen to some music. Putting the book down, she went to YouTube and typed in Goo Goo Dolls in the search bar and their song, Slow It Down came up as one of the suggestions.
She got up and began to dance, letting Johnny Reznik's voice fill her ears in pure delight. She's loved this band for as long as she could remember, and the song that was playing brought that joy towards her heartstrings.
Just as she was dancing, the door clicked shut, indicating that Valerie's husband, Dylan, had come home from working at her father's country club as a landscaper. The tiny, 4'9" individual was too occupied in her dancing spree to realize that standing at the doorway with a low chuckle leaving underneath his breath, was her tall husband, watching the entire thing.
"Having a good time, babe?" he said finally, startling the brown-haired woman as she jolted in surprise; her cheeks flushing to a beat red in embarrassment.
He chuckled, pushing back a long lock of his shoulder-length hair behind his ear. "It's okay, love," he reasoned, wrapping his long, but strong arms around his woman from behind; kissing her cheek lovingly. "I thought it was cute."
"But I didn't want you seeing me like that!" Valerie crossed her arms over her chest, pouting her lower lip in a huff. Dylan couldn't resist not kissing her lips, and so he proved his mental reasoning with a bend of his lean body and kissed her softly.
"This isn't the first time I haven't seen you like that," he replied, "I have seen you steal the chocolate cake frosting from the fridge, grab a spoon, and eat under the table because you didn't want me seeing it."
Valerie, even at the ripe age of twenty, still acted like a child. But that's what Dylan loved about her --- sometimes.
"Thanks love," Valerie replied sarcastically, "you always know how to make me feel better about my 'healthy' eating choices." even though she wasn't fat or even overweight, Valerie still felt self-conscientious about her weight. But even if she'd reach the maximum of three-hundred pounds, Dylan would still love her and find her sexually appealing, no matter what.
As they pulled apart from their embrace, Dylan had implied that he was going to sit down before eating dinner. Being an understanding wife, Valerie nodded, then went to go make the dish she was going to cook. It wasn't anything fancy: just a steak patty, baby reds mashed potatoes and fried green beans.
With the rattle of pans booming and patties sizzling, Dylan checked to see if he had gotten any chance of winning unlimited lives on Toy Blast and as he was checking the screen on his iPad, he was listening to the song playing on the television, and that's when the young twenty-four-year old man knew what he had to do.
He went over to an online ticket purchasing company and called them up.
"Yes, I would actually like to buy two tickets to see the Goo Goo Dolls," he checked to see if his wife was listening --- which she wasn't --- "I'm also wondering if I'd be able to purchase meet-and-greet passes as well. I'm trying to surprise my wife. . ."
After a quick twenty minute purchasing transactions --- and a series of questions given by the operator on the phone about their love story (stupid hopeless romantic!) --- he finally purchased the tickets and the greeting passes.
And his wife wouldn't know about it until the day that it happened.
